PORTER RANCH, Calif. (KTLA) -- At least 20 people sustained minor injuries Thursday night when a female customer pepper sprayed other shoppers at a Black Friday sale at a Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch.

Police said it was unclear exactly what sparked the confrontation, but it appeared to be a case of "competitive shopping."The woman, who is still being sought, used the pepper spray more than once inside the store "to gain preferred access to a variety of locations in the store," Los Angeles Fire Capt. James Carson told the Los Angeles Times.

Employees evacuated part of the store after the incident. Several people were treated outside for minor injuries, including skin and eye irritation, according to fire officials.

Wal-Mart's Black Friday sales started at 10 p.m. Thursday for toys, home and apparel. Electronics deals started at midnight.

BTW, after the scuffle, shopping went on as usual.

People are nutz.

Apparently they haven't caught her, but if she used her charge card for the XBox she bought, she's toast.

Let's hear some outrage here -- what's she guilty of? Attempted murder? Assault with a deadly weapon? Let's publish her name and address on the internet and vow vengeance!!

It's just a foodstuff ;)

People should use pepper spray for good, like...

...when people talk during movies.
...when people ask 'What's in that?' at the Starbucks counter.

This selfish woman is going to find lumps of coal in her Christmas stocking...but with any luck, she'll be wondering about the assault charges she'll face in court.

And people think I'm a little bit crazy - geesh.

Meanwhile: we're cued into a Back to the Future marathon :D

See if you can find her in the crowd.

This is right after it happened...

^ A testiment to one of the reasons why our country is going down the tubes: people buying stuff with money they don't have and increasing household debt. Yay!

Shop til you drop, bitches!

I love the term for that: Defalcation of money

Hahaha - it's just fitting, isn't it?

Oniomania leads to Defalcation

Worst part is all the black friday deals you can buy online now....dont even have to go to the store...sit in your drawers or your bloomers and order no pepper spray needed :)

I use it to buy my pepper spray online for the holiday season cooking.

She'll be charged with aggravated assault. I would not consider pepper spray a deadly weapon, though in some cases it has been found to cause blindness. In which case, if it did, she would also likely get sued for medical expenses, etc.

As for a comparison between this woman and an officer of the law paid for by public money? She is not invested with any legal authority over the common person by the state, nor does she have any obligation to uphold the law.

Just as our moderators in this forum are held to a higher standard than the average poster, so do are our law enforcement officers. It's part of the job, and if they don't like, there are plenty of jobs out there that don't involved so much public scrutiny.

I see what you did there.
