Wonder how much bones or promises corporate lobbyists threw at them?
We do not live in a pure democracy, in fact that's stupid. That is nothing more than mob rule. In our Republic, the whim of the majority may not overrule the rights of the minority.
That's why the occupiers do not have the right to deny others, the use of the parks they are occupying. They do not have the right to create environments that are unsafe because of violence and disease. They sure as hell don't have the right to force kids to live in these camps. That's child abuse.

again public opinion and protest is denied. the fascist hits again.
do the population at large still have a right to protest and be heard in the US?
The Police beat the **** out of them?
When?
The OWS movement seems to have the idea that if the police and city leaders do not let them do any thing they want then they are suppressing their movement. What is clearly being stated is that these people do have the right to protest and voice their opinions but there are rules to govern that so things do not get out of hand. What I don't understand is why the people involved cannot follow these rules? Why do they feel they are above the law? Do things the right way.
The OWS is not going to end. When you quash freedom of speech and assembly

The OWS is not going to end. When you quash freedom of speech and assembly, people will feel wronged and come back in force....
Their speech and freedom of assembly has not be quashed. They are just bot being allowed to camp out.
So let me get this straight if they didnt pitch up tents and just stayed there and protested for like 18 hours a day would that still be allowed?
Or lets say the protesters made shifts where they would protest at the park 24 hours a day and take shifts.. Would that be allowed?

Many parks have curfews, so that depends on the park. What these protesters are doing is wearing out their welcome by camping out, by keeping the parks a mess, bogarting the parks and causing other trouble.Or lets say the protesters made shifts where they would protest at the park 24 hours a day and take shifts.. Would that be allowed?
you completely miss the point. its not about technicalities, its about rights. as long as people follow the basic laws then they should be able to protest however they want. I never saw any raids against homless people and their tents to put these people into apartments.
when the protests are being cramped down on by the police and free speech becomes no speech at all in the media due to cencorship, then there is a worse situation going on.
are there any freedoms left in the US? what is that old document called, the one that no one care about anymore? the bill of rights is it?
Close, but no cigar. The mayor is going to do what the people (corporations) who will finance a re-election wants the mayor to do.Correct. But if the mayor wants to get re-elected, he/she is going to do what the majority wants them to do. [...]

Protest through your congressman like any sensible person would do...don't scream and yell and burn things and sell dope and provide hookers for fun and games....

You have the right to free speech, peaceably assemble, freedom of religion, freedom of press, petition for a governmental redress of grievances and many other rights. You just do not have the right to camp out in a city park, bogart public spaces, disrupt other people's activities, shoot at the whitehouse, throw a chair through a starbucks window and other act of vandalism, make the crime rate go up, or stay as long as you want in public spaces. You do not have the right to do these things on someone else's property. Nor do you have the right to trespass onto someone else's property and hold a protest.when the protests are being cramped down on by the police and free speech becomes no speech at all in the media due to cencorship, then there is a worse situation going on.

Outstanding post. Can an OWS supporter please explain to me why they are protesting Goldman Sachs instead of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? I'm curious because the US taxpayer profited approximately $2 billion at Goldman Sachs expense and lost over $150 billion to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Why are there protest over CEO bonuses at Goldman Sachs when they were paid with company capital and not over FM/FM bonuses that were over $100 million paid for by the US taxpayer? This baffles me and I would love to hear someone defend this type of thinking.
