Vladimir Putin says he is among rare breed of capable world leaders

"It does not mean that if you have got one hundred new people, they should all think they can be president," he said. "They can try, but finding people who are up to it is not easy."

And so he thinks he's up to the job? He's one of the political elite?

The guy's in love with himself, isn't he?

well, he fought his way to the top in a political system that is a bit more... brutal than our own.

HE probably is more competent than our top contenders. the difference, however, is that our administrations will be more competent. one guy can't do it all.

He's right:

"Or take the United States, there will be elections there soon. But the Republicans are winning, well they could win, but they have not got a leader! Where are they? The whole American system needs changing."

Vladimir Putin says he is among rare breed of capable world leaders - that's why Russia needs him again - Telegraph

Leading Russia takes a different kind of fortitude from the United States. There's a different paragon of leadership. Our paragon is George Washington, their paragon is more like Ivan the Terrible. He'd never be able to get elected in the United States, but the last five or so Presidents we've had would get killed in Russia (probably literally).

Putin has positioned Russia quietly to take centre stage in the next few years. As natural gas becomes more and more crucial in Europe, it leaves countries like Britain and Germany especially vulnerable to the will of Moscow, not so much in a domestic sense but more in foreign affairs.

yup. kinda funny, really. Russia is finally going to achieve her goal of dominating Europe.... Just as that region becomes once again a strategic backwater.
