This is completely and totally disgusting. There is no need whatsoever to dump the remains of an animal in a landfill, much less that of a human being, especially one who served our country in uniform.

I don't totally disagree with Conservative, but I think the best solution would be cremating them (they are already doing that) around dover (the parts are already arriving there) and placing them into the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (currently empty x 3). It would be in a place of honor, and the remains will be treated properly.

The problem is less in losing parts, it's in still sending kids over there to be killed.

In the end, we're all just meat. We're carbon atoms waiting to rejoin the cycle. No big deal. So long as the loved ones get a flag, what does it matter? Would you prefer they got a leg, instead of the flag? Or a leg AND a flag?

Tom worked in the DaNang Mortuary in VietNam. I asked him if the Mortuary ever got body parts. Of course, they did. Said that if the parts came in with the dead soldier, they stayed with the soldier and were embalmed and sent home. Lots of times they got body parts from the hospital. Those were incinerated without ceremony. He had no idea what happened to the ashes....probably went to a dump, he said.

What a thing to talk about on Veteran's Day Eve.

Remains of War Dead Dumped in Landfill title is a bit dramatic. Technically, the "cremains" are (were) disposed of in a landfill. That's what'll happen with mine. No big deal. I'm not surprised there's an investigation, though. That's the way our government rolls. Remember, these were body parts, not bodies. Big difference. Big.

Bring our guys home, damn it.

I was FAP'ed to Da Nang and temporarily assigned to the GRS for a bit.... and yeah, Tom is telling you right, at least according to my experience.
I'm not sure what we did with the ashes of the parts either... that wasn't my gig.... but I do know we incinerated them.

when you are looking at 3 bodies... and 7 feet.. whatchagonnado?

you'd think they would have a better handle on thing today though.... a lot less bodies , more control over the battlefield, better body retrieval capacity, etc

it would seem at least there should be some kind of "tomb of the unknown" or burial at sea option. hell, find a way to release us in the air and soar over the country or something....

Preferably alive, even sans a few body parts.

Oorah Marine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your service, my friend.

From the sounds of things, it could be better, but it's not as bad as the headline implies.

When I read the headline, I was like...ok, which 3rd world country is dumping bodies and why (or for that matter, did they even bother to give an excuse?)?

Then I realized it was, basically, medical waste disposal...Like if they have to amputate someone’s leg for medical reasons in a hospital…what, they give you the amputated leg as a souvenir?

This is really nowhere near what the headline implies.

Good, let's increase the military budget now $1M so we can bury a lost finger at sea. WTF is wrong with you people; what were they suppose to do, run $billions for DNA testing to match up a foot with a body? They at least cremated the parts, and disposed of them in a sanitary manner. You have evidence that someone's head was cremated and thrown in the dump? When you have surgery, do they bury your removed parts at sea? Were they cremating entire bodies and throwing them in the dump? What if a man loses a leg in the field, and later lives and recovers in the hospital; and what if he then dies in the hospital? Are they suppose to find his leg and bury it with him? This is what PC gets us, insanity!

As long as the bury the body with military honors, what else can they do? Is he not honored even without his leg?

Seriously? And you call yourself a patriot?

Honouring war dead, people who served a nation and paid the ultimate price is worth every freaking penny. You are still using millions to find MIA in Vietnam and from other wars, but the dead from Bush's wars get thrown on the trash heap?

It does not have to be buried at sea, how about a common grave of the unknown solider? But for the love of god, throwing someone's remains on a landfill along with other waste is disrespectful to say the least. And you are being highly disrespectful to the American solider by having such an attitude... you are basically saying that an American soldiers life and death is not worth a dignified burial.. shame on you. You can easily find the money in the military budget... just cut the billions in corruption and waste in procurement and hiring of private contractors. Hell cut Congressmen/women's and Senators budgets , they are wasting millions, and use it on something worthwhile like providing a dignified burial for your war dead.

I dont care what country we are talking about, but you do not throw military human remains, identified or unidentified on a landfill to save a few ****ing bucks.

You're insane.
Look buddy, you're not even American and you hate America. So don't come around here judging me. And don't judge the people who have to deal with this everyday, they have more honor than you'll ever show. You show me where someone isn't getting a dignified burial, show me now or GTFO.

You're the very guy who would have us cut our military budget way down, so don't come on this site parading your hypocracy because no one wants to see it.
