Occupy Oakland members vote to deposit $20,000 with Wells Fargo, one of the ....

and you know where I'd like them to put it?

well... they could give it to the poor, in line with their professed ideals....

HAH! who am i kidding. they don't even like it when the homeless ask to eat. :)

I've read this twice and I still do not see the justification for placing money with Wells Fargo. It does not take any longer to put the money in a credit union. Cash is accepted for bail.

Was Wells Fargo perhaps giving away a toaster with every new account? It would have been as legit of an arguement. I'm going to guess that this was an effort to get Wells Fargo to forgo any charges.

They sold out their ideals for convenience. Plain and simple.

The Occupy Whatever movement has officially "jumped the shark".

Ehh. This particular one has jumped the sharks. If none of the others have done this, then we should not let their actions affect the rest.

what I want to know is... when the protestors disperse... who has control of the account?

I'm confused. The article states ""It takes time to transfer funds to a credit union,". Transfer funds from where? The comments below state 'The money has been placed in a trust account of a Lawyer representing Occupy Oakland until the paperwork and accounts are finished.' Why is it's current location suddenly a problem? How long has it been there? Longer for a credit union account?

If they are waiting for a decision on their status from the State it typically takes a LONG time for such.

Weird!

It's a lie.

"It takes time to transfer funds to a credit union,"

Nonsense.... I can transfer from my bank, to my CU, in seconds. lo.,

This is just another version of the "they protest capitalism then drink Starbucks" argument, which is stupid.

One of the most ironic things, and I need to see if I can find the breakdown again, was at the onset of this, McDonalds, starbucks, and the like had a 20% or so increase in business around zucotti park, the local pizza places, deli's etc, 20% drop....

Then again, this is the same crowd that when asked who momar quadaffi was, 1 in 5 didn't know and several thought he was the shish kabob pushcart connector at the sw corner.

I thought those on the left were the academic types. ;)

After reading the article, I understand why the Oakland chapter did what they did, but I, even as a supporter of the OWS movement, still find it somewhat funny.

I wonder if the Occupy folks realized they were sleeping in Chinese-made tents?

Please then, explain it for us that do not.

I have on a couple of occasions had funds put on hold when I deposited a rather large check. but that happens whether it is a bank or a CU

I don't see how that is ironic at all. These people aren't lifestylists.

Hopefully Wells Fargo will deduct the cost of replacing the vandalism OWS did to their Oakland branch from the account. At least someone who has been economically trashed by this group of loud-mouthed nere'do-wells over the past weeks will get restitution.

I think they should blow their wad on bus tickets, to Washington, DC.

As for the their use of a bank? Not every place has an available credit union, and many of those credit unions are kinda closed off to the general public...

Funny you should say that. Occupy Wall Street is doing just that....a group left for Washington, DC a few days ago...24 of them, expecting it to take 18 days. They hope to pick up more on the way -- much like Forrest Gump. ;)

Hurray for them! Shoulda' started there!

Occupy Wall Street

Doesn't happen to me, I make lots of money. :pimpdaddy:

both times it happened to me, I had funds in my account to cover the amount of the check. they held it anyway until it cleared.

As have I, although I have never had a hold placed on cash deposited.

The Occupy DC folks around the corner in MacPherson Square just staged a march down K Street, showing the strength of the silent majority of 99 percent of America. This is the parade, as seen from my office window:

Really, that was the whole thing. Capitol Hill and the White House are where these guys should be protesting, since it’s government that created the problems they’re complaining about (assuming anyone can tell exactly what it is they’re saying)....
