The attempt to recall Governor Scott Walker got off to an earlier than expected start at the hands of a contributor to the 2010 Walker campaign. Muskego resident David Brandt filed papers with the Government Accountability Board on Friday, his official committee affiliation is with "Close Friends to Recall Walker." Wisconsin law does not cap the amount that an individual or committee can contribute to the incumbent while signatures are being collected to recall them from office. So as Walker sets out on a trip to conservative states Kansas and Arizona he will have the ability to accept unlimited donations from supporters. The lack of a cap on donations will last until a date is set for a statewide recall election. It is likely that well over $100 million dollars will be raised and spent in the effort to recall Walker.
Wisconsin Democratic leadership, namely Mike Tate, telegraphed the day they would file papers via a nationally televised interview on MSNBC on October 10th. The move allowed the Walker camp to front run the Democratic operation and tack on 11 extra days of fundraising. The entire operation is a large risk for the Democratic party. They first have to collect 540,000 valid signatures and then field a strong candidate that can close the six point Walker margin of victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett only one year ago. Failure to collect the signatures or ultimately defeat Walker will be seen as vindication for the Wisconsin GOP and Republican reformers nationwide.Recall elections in August were a mixed bag that left the Wisconsin GOP with a one seat majority in the State Senate. And just as the recall election in August was basically a proxy war between the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC), a recall election would be a proxy war to the tenth power. The election would likely be held in the spring of 2012 and would be seen as a barometer for the national political climate. The result of the recall election would also go a long way in determining which side will have the upper hand when it comes to organization in the 2012 presidential election cycle, when Wisconsin will play the role of a key battleground state. It remains to be seen how heavily contested a possible Democratic primary would be or if the party would rally around one candidate early on in the process.

Hope so. What a POS.

What happens in Wisconsin is important why? It's a red state with 10 electoral votes....who cares?

Hopefully Scott Walker beats the recall. There needs to be more politicians who stand up to big unions.

Haha, you sure cared when Walker was sticking to the unions and his constituents. :2rofll:

The reason I care is that I find it despicable when Republicans scapegoat teachers and firefighters, and yes ... (shudder) ... even unions.

That isn't what happened, but thanks for showing us how little you understand what is at stake and is going on here.

I do not believe that a Walker recall will be successful. However, there will also be recalls of other GOP Senators, and the Dems should easily snag 2 of those.

The result is going to be gridlock. Walker will not be able to do any more of his agenda, but Democrats will not have the ability to turn back anything that Walker has already accomplished.

They really need to get rid of that corrupt dictator. The USA has done it in the Middle East, now they can do it in the Mid-West.

You are trying to compare an American politician to Saddam Hussein or Muammar Gaddafi?

I would love to see him recalled...but I doubt it...

IMO, the legislation below doesn't appear to make Wisconsin a dictatorship.

However it does seem to make governor Walker chairman of the board at Wisconsin incorporated.

CHAPTER 238
WISCONSIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
CORPORATION

238.01 Definitions. In this chapter, except as otherwise
provided:
(1) “Board” means the board of directors of the corporation.
(2) “Corporation” means the Wisconsin Economic
Development Corporation.
(3) “Economic development program” means a program
or activity having the primary purpose of encouraging
the establishment and growth of business in this state,
including the creation and retention of jobs.

238.02 Creation and organization of corporation.
(1) There is created an authority, which is a public body
corporate and politic, to be known as the “Wisconsin
Economic Development Corporation.” The members of
the board shall consist of the governor, who shall serve
as chairperson of the board, and 6 members nominated by
the governor, and with the advice and consent of the senate
appointed, to serve at the pleasure of the governor; 3
members appointed by the speaker of the assembly, consisting
of one majority and
one minority party representative
to the assembly
, appointed as are the members of
standing committees in the assembly, and one person
employed in the private sector, to serve at the speaker’s
pleasure; and 3 members appointed by the senate majority
leader, consisting of one majority and
one minority
party senator
, appointed as are members of standing committees
in the senate, and one person employed in the private
sector, to serve at the majority leader’s pleasure.
The
secretary of administration and the secretary of revenue
shall also serve on the board as nonvoting members.
(2) A majority of the voting members of the board
constitutes a quorum for the purpose of conducting its
business and exercising its powers and for all other purposes
,
notwithstanding the existence of any vacancies.
Action may be taken by the board upon a vote of a majority
of the voting members present.
(3) A chief executive officer shall be nominated by
the governor, and with the advice and consent of the senate
appointed, to serve at the pleasure of the governor.
The board may delegate to the chief executive officer any
powers and duties the board considers proper. The chief
executive officer shall receive such compensation as may
be determined by the board.

238.04 Powers of board. The board shall have all
the powers necessary or convenient to carry out the purposes
and provisions of this chapter. In addition to all
other powers granted the board under this chapter, the
board may specifically:
(1) Adopt, amend, and repeal any bylaws, policies,
and procedures for the regulation of its affairs and the
conduct of its business.

(2) Have a seal and alter the seal at pleasure.
(3) Maintain an office.
(4) Sue and be sued.
(5) Accept gifts, grants, loans, or other contributions
from private or public sources.

(6) Establish the corporation’s annual budget and
monitor the fiscal management of the corporation.

(7) Execute contracts and other instruments required
for the operation of the corporation.
(8) Employ any officers, agents, and employees that
it may require and determine their qualifications, duties,
and compensation.

(9) Issue notes, bonds, and any other obligations.
(10) Make loans and provide grants.
(11) Incur debt.
(12) Procure liability insurance.

The WEDC would be run by a Board of Directors that consists of 13 voting members, including the Governor who serves as chairman; six members nominated by the Governor; three members appointed by the Senate Majority Leader (which includes one member of the majority party; one member of the minority party; and one person employed in the private sector), and; three members appointed by Assembly Speaker (which includes one member of the majority party, one member of the minority party, and one person employed in the private sector). In addition, the Secretaries of Administration and Revenue would serve on the board as nonvoting members.

Below is a list of the 13 people who appear to be running Wisconsin inc, I count only two known democrats and seeing how a simple majority(7)of these folks constitutes a quorum then it is possible that as few as 4 of these members could possibly affect the lives of 5.5 million people who reside is Wisconsin.

What was the fiscal state of the state when Walker was elected? What is it's current and projected status? If things are better and improving then the voters in Wisconsin would be wise to ignore the union whores and focus on the needs of their state. If they listen to the clowns and leeches in the unions that exist solely to suck the resources of the state taxpayers without regard to the actual needs of the state then they should recall Walker and should watch their state dive into fiscal Hell. Their choice.

Sounds like you're talking about Union leaders there also. Or do you deny that Union leaders give money in order to buy politicians?

They do, but no where near on the scale that the elite give to politicians.

Fair enough, I did enjoy reading about the Governor slapping the unions silly since the state could no longer afford to pay their extortion demands. Since he has already accomplished that, losing him doesn't mean squat to me or the political landscape of the country. If the citizens of Wisconsin want to reverse the course he set and put themselves back into a fiscal disaster, they have every right to recall him.

I think he'll probably be recalled. Unfortunate, but those agin' him are far more passionate than those on his side. Voter turnout will tell the tale.

Hope to heck that they don't get enough signatures. But they probably will. Since that may be the case I'll also hope that Walker beats the recall. I applaud the fact that Walker put an end to the collective bargaining by public employees. That never should have been allowed to begin with. Each of thier paychecks should reflect what thier states economy is like and how well they perform. It would be an incentive for every one of them to do thier best and actually care how thier whole state is doing instead of riding on the shoulders of either corrupt individuals (99.9% of politicians and ceo's and union leaders that really only care about lineing thier pocket) or of people that actually do try to make things better.

Just a side note here too...I might have been more inclined to actually listen to union members if a ton of those teachers hadn't lied and called in sick in order to protest and thereby hurting the childrens education. Children who those teachers have a responsibility towards.

They do, but no where near on the scale that the elite give to politicians.

Simply untrue.

Frankly, I hope he gets recalled and I hope the Republican Party dies a swift death. Also, the influence unions have on policy is being greatly exaggerated, as always, by some people in this thread. When looking at influence, it's best to look at policy not money. The reason many unions are dialing back support of Democrats is because the Dems have not being pushing for policies that the unions want.
