Occupy Oakland protesters remove barricade at port entrance

We didn't start the fire.

*cough*

Varied reports, it all could have been avoided though by just allowing the protesters their full and unmolested right to assembly and protest.

That cuts into the government's racket, and they wouldn't take so kindly.
We? Well...if WE are the ****heads that launched bottles and rocks at the cops...then yes...WE did.

But see...thats your problem...and theirs. You have this idea that your right to protest means whatever, whenever, however.

Yeah, like flag burning is new
it sells so well on the big stage...right? I'm serious...I WANT you to keep it up. And I want the images to get out more. I want the 53% to see the '99%' for what they are.

I believe that protest and assembly are amongst the most precious, important, and powerful of our rights. Thus I strive to uphold them to their fullest. Government force was used against the protest under such trite context as "camping" (though camping and protest are often different). I think had we more resolve to live by the rights and liberties of the individual and allowed them to stay without trying to use police force to make them leave; we would not be at this point. Was it really worth it?

...ooookay.

Someone's going coo-coo for coco puffs over here.

So you are against voting/Democractic Republics like our system is now. Tell us, what would you like to see in its place?

Again, what would you like to see take its place?

Then maybe he shouldn't have, along with prominent demo's lent it the credence that he did.

For starters, proportional representation in the house, so we could have actual diversity of political opinion. I personally am a registered libertarian, but i'd love to see some greens represented too. belgium has 6 political parties... Could we in the US even imagine that many platforms? I want a diversity of choice, not a false binary system.

Just because he might want OWS, or hope it is his doesn't make it so. Obama, like the last 2 democratic presidents before him, is a real centrist.

Probably a question you should take up with the government officials that ordered it and not go out and act in conflict with the police. But just like this whole 'movement'...your aim sucks. You keep attacking the wrong people.

Maybe if the rule of law was being followed with these protests, then the view of the spoiled children wouldn't be so negative.

That cuts into the government's racket, and they wouldn't take so kindly.

Oh Brother! Someone call Alex Jones and tell him one got away.

Not at all and I couldnt be more serious. I want your broskis to keep burning the flags. i want them to keep showing themselves to the good ole US to be the disgusting disrespectful miscreants they are.

But seriously...you and a few others here promote violent rebellion and you think I'M the one thats coo-coo? Thats comical dood. But hey...heres just a little heads up...like the heee-ro cocaine addict ex marine found out...if it gets real...its not a video game with a bunch of anime characters flinging powerballs at each other. K? So..keep your head down.

usually with mob sort of tendencies, yes. But police and government are valid targets in terms of rebellion/revolution.

You are just silly. The 1% is LAUGHING at this ****. You think these people are impacting the 1%? They have what is known in the financial world "**** you money". Who this is impacting is all the retirees, the lower to middle income folks who have their retirement and 401ks tied up in the markets. These protesters are cutting their own throats and arent smart enough to see it.
It is possible I'm smelling the GOP's dirty diapers - Obama's approval rating is rising (getting close to 50-50) and than there is this:

We may well see 2008 all over again in 2012. But, of course the OWS / 99% movement has nothing to do with that.

Maybe if the rule of law was being followed with these protests, then the view of the spoiled children wouldn't be so negative.

Maybe if we had more resolve to live by the consequences and responsibilities of freedom; we wouldn't even be at this point.

Don't like that guy. You saying the government doesn't like the drug trade?

I still don't really see what is "disgusting" about protest which involves burning the American flag. That doesn't necessarily make on "anti-American", it can be a valid display of protest against the government itself.

Yeah, playing Devil's advocate can be fun. But in seriousness, I'm not actually promoting violent rebellion. I am interested in seeing where this goes. I do maintain that rebellion and revolt are proper tools of the People. It would be reasonable, in my estimation, that they would need to be employed rarely, but not zero in order to keep government in line.

For starters, proportional representation in the house, so we could have actual diversity of political opinion.

We have that now. The way you see the people that you want in office, is to vote them in. If they can't garner the support needed to get elected, then they (you) need to a better job with the message.

I personally am a registered libertarian, but i'd love to see some greens represented too.

I lived in Bel Air for 20 years, trust me when I say there is no shortages of clowns on the ballot in Balto.

belgium has 6 political parties... Could we in the US even imagine that many platforms? I want a diversity of choice, not a false binary system.

There are more than two parties in the US as it is, that they can't mount a viable race is not the problem of the majority parties, they need to get better.

Just because he might want OWS, or hope it is his doesn't make it so. Obama, like the last 2 democratic presidents before him, is a real centrist.

Socialist? Progressive? Liberal? Marxist? Pragmatic liar? maybe all of the listed, but centrist? Hell no...

Before that were you from West Philadelphia?

*cough*

Crap....now that song is stuck in my head.

...ooookay.

Someone's going coo-coo for coco puffs over here.

If they're going to start a rebellion, they're going about it all wrong... so either they're too stupid to know what rebellion means and looks like or it's not a rebellion.

Yoho! Smell ya later!

i'm generally very tolerant of protests and rallies.... it's not my bag of tricks, but I don't mind it being others'.
when it gets to the point of violence and lawlessness, that's where I draw the line...I can no longer be tolerant.

I don't want to here how the OWS is fighting for their rights to peaceably assemble anymore... it's obvious, at least in Oakland, they are not peacefully assembling, nor are they interested in doing so.
peacefully protest and march to your hearts contend... but when you start interfering with other peoples property, livelihood, etc... you're no longer exercising your rights, you're infringing on the rights of others.

kudos to those OWS protestors who are not hypocrites and don't infringe on the rights of others while supposedly fighting for our rights.... to those whom feel it's right and proper to infringe on other peoples rights... I hope you come to the realization , quickly, that you are in the wrong.
to those OWS who are protesting correctly, I would argue that it would be wise of you to police your fellow protestors who have no respect for the rights of others... if you do not, you'll be caught up in the wide net that will inevitably come down.

I was rather apathetic over this OWS movement, even while sharing some of it's frustrations... but i'm leaning towards opposing it, only because of the mob actions such as we see in Oakland.

Quite so. Plus with the aggressive nature in which Oakland used its force against the protesters, it should be no surprise that they'd try to retaliate.

How many times do we have to go over this...

Are you still denying that use of RCA and LLM is an appropriate response by police in response to being attacked by a mob????

Are you STILL denying that the mob started the confrontation by trying to RE-TAKE the park by attacking police?

There are plenty of respectable Occupy movements across the country.... I can't say the same for Oakland, they have turned into a riotous anarchistic mob controlled by Black Bloc ideologists.

Fair play to these protesters at least they are being heard and trying to make a stand. What did we do back in 2008 we sat on our hands and complained about it behind our TV/laptop screen like we are doing now. I give them props for having some balls.

Yes... having the balls to tear **** up and cause the low wage earner not to be able to make the money needed to feed and house his family by blocking off the port.

Your right... it takes balls to be a group of assholes.

You'd better get a whole lot more 'many' before you think about what any of these social misfits can do to the few....

Oh, and BTW, for the record, Oakland's mayor supports this crap, and told her police force to stand down, in that case, I am contacting my reps, and senators, and telling them that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES do NOT want ANY federal aid going to Oakland to help with the damage.

LET IT BURN!

j-mac

If she keeps it up...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Oakland PD stand by and let them burn her office down.

The PD couldn't be more confused and frustrated with the mayor there.

We didn't start the fire.

Thanks. Thats all I needed to hear to know that you are full of it, and I can't trust a single word you say on the subject.

Your opinion on this matter is now worthless.

uHH... Quick Question....

WTF did your post have to do with the poster you were responding to?

I don't think he mentioned Obama's poll numbers at all.

The flag is the symbol of our country. Of US.

Regardless of what some idiot thinks they MEAN, when people see them burning the flag, they think "That guy hates America"

Its not at all shocking that you get that this is nothing more than a lib democrat get out the vote activity. People bleat on about this pretense about how they want "banks and brokers out of politics" which of course is a lie. They dont CARE...just so long as those banks and brokers back democrats. This is just the Bush era anti-war types in a new cause they can get behind. Of course...they cant protest Obama and his increased military actions, expanding the patriot act, expanding black ops prisons, and forget about GITMO, extending consitutional rights to terrorists, etc. At least you are honest enough to admit that it is what it is...a smokescreen for Obama. I can actually respect that.
