Animal Lunacy In Ohio

Marian Thompson, the widow of the Zanesville, Ohio man who released 60 predators and exotic animals into the wild before suiciding last Tuesday wants the surviving six animals returned to her....three leopards, two Celebes macaques and a young grizzly bear, which have been quarantined at the Columbus zoo. The Ohio Department of Agriculture has issued an emergency order preventing her from taking them, relying on the risk that the animals are infected with herpes B as the legal basis.

However, Marion has hired a whole team of lawyers and she'll be getting a hearing on the matter in 30 days. By then, the tests on these animals will likely be back and any that are not infected may well be court-ordered back into her custody.

Thompson's husband suicided just TEN days ago, on October 18th, and in the interval, law enforcement was forced to kill 48 animals...lions, tigers and bears. Two monkeys also released are believed to have been killed and eaten by the cats. I don't know, from the news, if she has even had her husband's funeral yet. I wonder if instead, she's busy planning funerals for her dead "babies"?

We had hoped (Mrs.) Thompson would leave the animals at the zoo in the care of our team of professionals,” Dale Schmidt, chief executive officer of the zoo, said in the announcement.

“We are trying to get authorization from government authorities and agencies to ensure they stay at the zoo. Unfortunately, the current laws do not protect the animals and at this time we have no legal right to stop them from being taken from the zoo.”

One of Mrs. Thompson's attorney, Bob McClelland, said neither the law firm nor his client would comment further.

Last Tuesday's release of these 60 animals terrorized the surrounding community; schools were closed and no doubt, the police who had to shoot these animals were traumatized. Just disposing of their carcasses will be a hazmat nightmare.

Sam Kopchak Jr., 64, who found himself only 30 feet from a male African lion during the night of the animals’ release and subsequent escape from the property, said that while he understands Marian Thompson would want to keep the animals she has helped raise from babies, he does not want to live next to those type of animals any longer.

“For her sake, I feel sorry for her, losing her husband and all those animals,” Kopchak said this morning. “After we experienced what we experienced, I feel I would rather not have the animals around.”

Now that he has had time to reflect on what happened last week, Kopchak said he has a better appreciation for just how precarious a situation he was in when he went to bring his horse into the barn and saw the lion on the other side of a simple livestock fence that separates the two properties.

Why isn't this bitch spending her time planning her husband'sfuneral? Why isn't the county suing her for the cost of the hunt and aftercare of the carcasses and the surviving animals? It's a miracle that no one was killed, and IMO, this bitch should be headed into a mental hospital for life, not into court to sue to get her "babies" back.

And yet my local Fox News reported last night that SIXTY PERCENT of local people polled wanted to see her to get the animals back.

Insanity runs deep and wide in Ohio where animal control laws are concerned.

If she has the cash to pay a team of lawyers to fight for her "babies" to be returned, how's about paying some of it to the county? Or to county residents, for their emotional distress?
