Official: U.S. pulling out all troops from Iraq

(CNN)
-- The United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq by the end of the year, as a current agreement with Iraq dictates, a U.S. official told CNN Friday. O
nly about 150 troops, a negligible force, will remain to assist in arms sales. The United States had expected that some of the roughly 40,000 Americans in Iraq would remain there to aid in training and security.

But the two nations were unable to reach a deal on a key issue regarding legal immunity for U.S. troops, a senior U.S. military official with direct knowledge of the discussions told CNN this month.
The United States wanted to retain immunity but the Iraqis refused to agree to that, opening up the prospect of Americans being tried in Iraqi courts and subjected to Iraqi punishment.

In a short speech delivered minutes ago, President Obama said our remaining forces in Iraq will be home for the coming holidays :)

I'll believe it when I see it. And also, what about the rest of the ME...can we pull our troops out of there too?

Dislike.

I want us to keep several thousand troops in Iraq or next door in Kuwait, incase we are needed to take on Al Qaeda or other trouble-makers.

Who is that?

Obama also said that the incremental draw-down of US forces from Afghanistan will continue.

Can we stop bombing all those various places and countries too? Stop helping with revolutions and such? Maybe save some money.

This is good news, but we will still be in Afghanistan and probably have some sort of contracter there.

I didn't script the story here, I just relayed the message.

The point is, I doubt we're actually getting out. We may pull some troops from area A, but we're still going to be there. Troops, technology, military presence, everything else that goes along with massive interventionism.

A true pull out is one in which we take our ball and go home. That's what I want.

I'm dabbing at tears of joy. Now I'm gonna get busy praying for the soldiers in Afghanistan to be able to come home as well. That is a different situation in my opinion. Both the Taliban and Al Qaeda are still operating in that country and parts of Pakistan. Those two groups are responsible for killing thousands of Americans in New York and Washington, DC, and we need to eradicate that threat to our security before we leave.

agreed, that country is a rat's nest.

Snagged it.........

Snagged it.........

They say this, I'll wait to see. I wonder if this will turn out to be sorta like the whole Mission Accomplished thing with Bush.

Well, I'm breathing a sigh of relief. I'm glad to seriously, really be out'a there. I do hope we retain some "base use rights" so that, should we need to return (hopefully not), we don't have to jump over hoops to go back.

But if we did that then how would those who hold stocks in companies of the defense industry maintain their profit margins?

Which companies are you referring to?

Do you really believe there will be no munitions used because "America's war" is over?

Iran is already making its move and it appears that the fragile democracy in Iraq will be lost and all those lives and treasure will have been wasted and all, it appears, for strictly domestic political purposes.

Iran is already making its move...
Iran made it's move helping to talk the GWB admin into invading Iraq. see Aras Karim Habib

...and it appears that the fragile democracy in Iraq will be lost and all those lives and treasure will have been wasted and all, it appears, for strictly domestic political purposes.
sunk costs

Iran has every reason to keep Iraq democratic. The largest and most powerful parties in Iraq were harbored by Iran during Hussein's regime.

Don't worry. We'll be going back in a few years.

They're pulling out the 40,000 troops because they'll be needed elsewhere, like in Iran.

Our bipartisan Congress is committed to military interventionism in the Middle East, regardless of what economic problems are happening on the home front.

Mark my words. There will be another major war soon. We are already in every oil related country there.

How long until Iran goes to war with Iraq for the 100th time?

Only Obama would remove forces from Iraq, to ready them for operations in Iran. He's just that brilliant.
