Its not prudent of you to make claims without any evidence to back it up, since there are clearly many motives as to why NATO would intervene in Libya in the first place.
Why else would we be in there? Syria is meaningless outside of the context of oil security. It's the whole reason why the west installed Gaddafi in the first place.
Regardless, do you know what the purpose of NATO is? To secure the interests and the security of the Western hemisphere states.
That's basically what I just said. Oil security is security.
Where do you think you or your country would be if our leaders where not so conniving in securing our most basic economic requirements? Dont sulk too much that our politicians are spending resources to secure the long term supply of a commodity that your community would fall into complete anarchy without.
We don't need to go to war to secure those supplies. This is about us directly controling the supplies. The west has made it a policy to not negotiate for oil, but to simply invade and take it, installing dictators along the way. I'm not sulking, but simply pointing out the hypocrisy of our foreign policy. On the surface we're about freedom and democracy but our actions say otherwise.
Gaddafi was our dictator puppet until we decided that Syria needed "freedom and democracy". Funny how that coincided with oil.
Not to mention... our government is never up front about oil security. Invasions always happen under false pre-texts. You're ok with the government lying to your face while using your tax dollars to cause civil upheaval, kill thousands of people (in the case of Iraq, it's in the hundreds of thousands), and then transfer oil profits to private interests?
Do you really think the USA/Europe is set apart from the global community when it comes to using military might to secure national interests?
Not anymore I don't. I used to believe that we stood for something greater, but I'm glad that delusion didn't last long. Our governments are no different in behavior toward foreign countries that some of the worst dictators in history. We slaughter millions to secure our luxury goods, and then the biggest insult of all is that we conceal it behind the tidy face of democracy and freedom.
Dont be so naive. We've killed 2 birds (or one mad dog and a bird) with one stone, and we should be damn proud of it.
Back off.
No ally of ours funds our enemies and blows up our people over our cities. He was a temporary convienience and he knew it. Justice has been done.
Oh he was our ally, don't kid yourself. You might want to call it a temporary convenience, but that "convenience" ruled Syria for nearly half a century, and slaughter all domestic opposition with cruel retribution.
The blood of the current war is on our hands, just as the blood of the Syria people under his rule is on our hands. As nations, the western world has worse karma than any other country on earth. It wouldn't be as much of an outrage if we weren't such damn liars about what we're doing in the world.
If we're just like every other nation and all our stated principles are a bunch of bull****, then the least we can do is own up to the fact instead of brainwashing our fellow citizens with tripe about how humanitarian we all are.
