HS Student Refuses To Recite Mexican Pledge Of Allegiance

I can appreciate all of that, but this is not about your right to vote. Nor is anyone questoning your right to an opinion. Nor did anyone question anyone else's right to an opinion.

What was questioned was validity, as opinions were being made with no supporting basis. And as we see with many of our liberal firends, they made a choice to attack posters personally who had opinions contrary to theirs. That is how it is. It is what we expect. It happens daily here.

It will happen tomorrow here as well. Whether you joined in the personal attacks or not, I will not bother to go back and look.

I have found that out of the two, conservative and liberals, the first to start insulting, casting aspersion or labeling as racist or bigot or sexist, talking over or shouting down their opponent... is the liberal. First hand experience from "debating" liberals as one of the only conservatives in a very liberal Sonoma County north of San Francisco.

Mexico has about 112 million people compared to 46 million in Spain.

I already defeated her on this point... muhahaha!

Yeah, I know... I was working on something else and took a break... still, I provided more detailed information... the job of teaching never ends... Pinkie was good about it... all's good...

I am usually considered a liberal, but I oppose illegal immigration, so I am usually seen as conservative on the issue.

I don't line up well with any one political POV, and tend to decide an issue on the facts, one by one.

No worries... we all make mistakes...

Ha! The surprise to me would have been if I were right; I truely suck at geography. I can't read a map because to me, "north" means "go up".

LOLOL.

It is amazing how many people actually say that about north and south... and west is left... hear it all the time...

It's a weird deficit, and my brother also has it, so I wonder if it might be genetic.

I have managed to compensate.....partially by not traveling through Europe.

LOL.

That is what I do as well... you will find me vehemently conservative on some issues and just as passionate and liberal on others. I judge each issue based on it's merit. I was only commenting on how I find liberals or conservatives that are a little more extreme. Most people are in the middle and can communicate clearly and calmly.

You call THAT bad? There have been times I have called West right. -_-

Most people do this until the retrain their brain to think or translate up to north and so on... those that get stuck and continue to do this might have dyslexia or another issue.

If someone tells me to go north or west, I haven't a clue where to go. If you give me a map, I can figure it all out.

The West is right... but west is not right unless you are going south.

What if I give you a map without a compass on it?

Not some people... we had evidence of that in this very thread just a couple pages back. ;)

Well, geeze louise, I hear San Francisco is the epicenter of liberal extremism. It'd be a nine days wonder if you hadn't found the cons out there to be more reasonable.

It was the liberals that were unreasonable. I would sit in a cafe or tea house and start talking politics with the 1985 volvo driving dred headed pot smoking and growing dead heads living on their parents 100 acres for free while not having a job (or working for trade in an organic garden for vegetables) kinda liberal that basically hates America and even what liberals are doing they were so extreme. I would start out fine and then when they started shouting I would needle them and start making fun of them... jack asses. I couldn't stand these wannabe hippy children of ex-60's hippies as they touted their utopian ideology all the while doing nothing productive and bashing everything about America and anybody that dared support something American or Western.

I rather doubt I'd have had much more success. I'm not noted for my high bull**** tolerance.

Don't feel bad; you aren't the only one who's directionally challenged. Isn't north directly in front of you while south is behind you, LOL?

She has the right to refuse to do the assignment and her teacher has the right to fail her. It was an assignment for class not something students were being forced to do.

Students aren't forced to do assignments? What?

What if I give you a map without a compass on it?

Ha. I understand directions without a compass. I just need to see it on a map to understand.

Well, I'm not geography whiz, but I don't believe you are correct.

If, by "largest" you mean highest population, I'd guess Spain is first. Spain is also the place where Spanish first developed and therefore, has the oldest "Spanish" culture.

The first-year teacher, according to the student, is from Mexico and loves it. The student also objected to the assignment's being on the U.S.'s Constitution Day.
