N.Y. millionaire tax gets a push from poll, Occupy Wall St.

REG ....why are you so indiffrent to hard working lower classes? Questions are fun!

How does wealth being confiscated from the well off help anyone else?

There are no golden eggs, which is why the economy is still slumping and there are no jobs. Rich people aren't contributing ****. They are as useful as the "parasites" in the welfare office...

The people who own the capital aren't contributing, because we have the most business-hostile government in 70 years.

sorry are you a millionaire? Also it is nothing like asking honour students to tutor slackers because majority of the working class are not slackers thank you very much!

if you demand others pay for your existence you are a slacker.

So paying some taxes with hand while accepting welfare with the other is suddenly contributing? If these people were contributing anything meaningful, and then we'd have more jobs in this country. They aren't even capable of self regulating, and this economy is the result of their failure.

Government demanding banks make home loans to people it knew could not pay them back is "regulation."

Ka-ching.

They're going to sit on the sidelines until their own government stops assaulting them.

The tax money taken from rich folks isn't going to the working classes. :lamo

what a outrageous comment! So basically as long as long as your ok to hell with the rest of the country?

p.s I work and pay taxes as does my wife

Some of the middle class and lower classes do it.
Why do we hate the wealthier people, when everyone else does it?

You do know that not all wealthy people get bailed out?
Sweeping generalizations are horrid ways of forming policy.

The rich people that didn't bailed out are struggling now and not as wealthy. The one's at the top with the most money, the one's that can't fail because they are too big and important, are now contributing about as much as a meth head on welfare and they are at the top.

Wrong.
Do you even understand how the top 1% got wealthier?
Hint: It wasn't from being bailed out.

Why do you think they should give you something?

They're no longer talking about taxing income. They are talking about confiscating standing wealth.

the malignancy of parasitic activity continues to grow. take a friend of my parents. her billionaire husband died and most of the wealth (after taxes and donations) went to his children. She got the home, his artwork etc free and clear because the estate taxes were paid with his cash holdings. So she is sitting in a 6 million dollar home etc but has a decent but not huge income of say 190K a year--enough to maintain her comfortably and pay the 39K property taxes. her income put her in the upper middle class but her wealth-which produced ZERO income made her "very rich".

Now many parasitic liberals would say she ought to pay a huge tax each year on that "wealth

that sort of mentality disgusts me

The government lifted regulations. The government didn't force any banks to do anything, nor did it hold a gun to Jamie Diamond's head and make him foreclose on the homes of soldiers serving overseas whilst violating the Civil Relief Act. Whatever happened to accountability and holding people responsible for what they do?

yes she should, she can sell the house and live in a 3 million dollar home and still have a great life...

I did, try again. and since most of the comments are opinions and opinions are tied to the perspective and wisdom of the author, my points are relevant
You could have made a case for why one narrative was superior to the other.

But you didn't.
You resorted to going after the person instead of addressing the ideas. Again.

They threatenend banks who would not set aside traditional underwriting requirements in making loans, i.e., those who did not loan to unqualified buyers.

The "ownership society" was a miserable, liberal failure at social engineering, and totally at the feet of the government.

Wrong.

Wrong. Do you not understand that honest wealthy people are struggling in this economy? The only people that have it made, are the one's that are too big to fail, and they can keep ****ing the rest of us over. We paid for their mistakes. We bailed them out to save our economy and jobs, and they are still ****ing us and living as comfortable as did before they destroyed our economy.

What business is it yours?

Government interference in the housing market destroyed the economy.

I will tell you how I do

I only spend about a tenth of what I make each year. (of course taxes take about 40% of what I make) but that still means half of my income is left over. So I invest it.

yeah I live on a nice 25 acre piece of property-when I bought it it was farm land going for about 5K an acre and now-well I am surrounded by subdivisions and one of my neighbors sold his 5 acres for 500K so you get the idea. But I also drive an 11 year old Lexus I bought used and its got 155K on it. I don't feel a need to buy a new car every year-in fact my last three cars have been used. I don't take expensive vacations-the last time I paid for a trip out of the country was my honeymoon 18 years or so ago. Neither of us drink and I rarely eat at expensive restaurants. I guess the one real luxury i have-other than sending my son to the best school I can find is belonging to a country club where I spend tons of time playing tennis and squash and coaching

but the bottom line is spending less than I make and investing for the LONG TERM

as a tax payer it is my business, incase you missed the memos America is going to **** and if the GOP are going to keep blocking ways to produce jobs that money is going to have to come from somewhere! Hell I dont mind paying more taxes if it is for the greater good!

you have no clue of what you speak

I never received any bailouts, I had no investments in bailed out industries and I am doing fine. so are most of my friends who are what you would call rich but we are hardly buying yachts, jets, small countries or states nor do we have the ability to say devalue the pound or the franc like Soros can

Then pay more.

What is your claim to someone else's property?

Her husband died, and she can't live the same lifestyle.. not even if she paid zero percent in taxes. Her husband could have left her more money, but he didn't... She has to "tighten her belt" and plan to live on a smaller budget. Of all the things that is sad in that situation, losing her husband and children losing their father, I don't feel that her financial situation is at tragic.
