Police, Protesters Clash at Occupy SD

So this is the talking point I keep hearing from Hannity and the others in the echo chamber... what's the deal? Sounds like a pretty desperate smear. How is loan forgivness and being anti-bailout anti-semetic? I just heard this right wing meme today, and I'm curious to know how the story goes.

Listen to the sound bites from the protestors.

I tuned in right after the segment... sorry I missed it, but I assume (correct me if I am mistaken) that it was one or two people in a movement of thousands. And, (legitamate information seeking question here) was it real antisemitism (e.g. it's all the Jew's fault, get 'em!), or was it about policies like aid to Israel, Palestinian statehood, etc.?

I see the similarties between these protestors and the Nazis in 1939.....Today I heard a woman quoted on the news who said get rid of all the jews in this country....I hope these nuts don't start another massacure of the Jews. Its really scary to hear the things they say................

The Left always has a problem with Jews. It's the same in much of Europe and the UK.

Actually, being a San Diegan, I've been following this a bit.

The occupation in San Diego is actually in an area where dance recitals etc are held. An event is actually scheduled for Saturday.

Two people were actually arrested.

They are not allowing people to sleep on site, but they did allow them to leave a tent up as a symbol and are allowing them to gather each day.

I'm not happy about it, but it does seem like they chose a less than ideal location to post up in. Other public spaces exist downtown that aren't actually performance spaces and the plaza for the civic theatre. I can understand maybe wanting to be visible to opera goers, but its a general event venue. We saw Blue Man Group there recently.

We are planning to go down and check it out. I'll post what I find out from the horses mouth, as it were.
You can be unofficial DP On-the-Spot reporter.

Well, I watched the clip...

First, one whackjob does not make a movement anything but remorseful it has the support of a whackjob.

And secondly, the woman refered to "zionist Jews running the Federal Reserve."

So really this is just the old Zionist banking conspiracy garbage that has been around since before the days of John Birch and Barry Goldwater. I guess conspiracy theorists are less partisan than I thought.

We have certainly answered the question "are there some idiots in the OWS movement?" with a strong affirmative.

That being said, the old Rothschild and NWO conspiracies are entertaining, aren't they? Alex Jones has practically parleyed them into a lucrative broadcast career.

You'll note that was a schoolteacher making those statements, a product of the California educational system and among the best, supposedly, that system has to offer. And she was not the only OWL member to shout out these accusations. You'll also recall how the Tea Party were cited as "Racists" by the mainstream media, or "Tea baggers" while this clip, and others, will never make it onto the mainstream media.

Doesn't it follow that perhaps the news is being filtered and adjusted to promote a particular point of view? If that schoolteacher was a member of the Tea Party talking about Blacks, don't you think there would have been more of a media outcry and less of the "all movements have the occasional whackjob" responses? Remember when Tea Party members were accused of shouting 'Nigger" at Black congressional members and we learned it was all a lie? But the media ran with it and the damage had been done. They'll go with the false accusations rather then publicize the truth.

Thank you. Perfect parallel.

The 60's anti-war hippie protesters (I was around and knew more than a few, though I was a kid), were not exactly diplomatic genius types who had a viable plan for world peace. From what I recall, they were composed about equally of stoners whose main motives were not wanting to go to Vietnam, preferring to stay stoned all day, avoid work as much as possible, and take advantage of the sexual revolution.... and hyper-idealistic college kids or college dropouts who were so full of slogans and chants and RAGE that they couldn't stop to consider an alternative viewpoint.

So many of them thought if we just laid down all our arms and put daisies in our hair and sang "Let the sunshine in", the Soviet Union and etc would go "Aw, how sweet, let's be nice to them and go have a drum circle and score some weed." :lamo Um, No.... the truth of the world is that showing an unwillingness to fight is like wearing a roast pig on your back in a tiger cage.

Like the hippies of the 60's, I tend to think the OWS protesters are a mix of naive ideologues and lazy opportunists, based on what I've seen. Many interviewees seem to have only a very vague idea of what they're protesting for, and even less idea of what they'd replace the current system with. Others have these incredibly unrealistic anarchist notions that in the absence of all gov't that people would just naturally be cooperative and communitarian and everything would be groovy, baby.

The 60's anti-war, anti-caplitalism, anti-Establishment hippies didn't really change much in the world, overall. Society is still structured much the same, with work and jobs and corporations and rich people and politicians and wars. Many of the very people who were hippy protesters back then are now capitalists, corporatists, and politicians, and they're not ushering in any Age of Aquarius. :lamo

The OWS is likely just another flash in the pan, but an even smaller and less significant one.

Correction. They became professors, educators, and politicians, and spawned the idiots we see in OWS "movement".. LOL Laughing at the use of the word.. "Movement".. :)

They also made the use of drugs "cool".

Well, you won't catch me defending media coverage of the teaparty or OWS. I'm proud to have been a participant in what I consider the first Teaparty event, the Ron Paul moneybomb in2007. It's sort of gone downhill from there, but I digress...

I think the media does a pretty horrible job altogether. But, I would point out that the MSM does include Fox and the big AM talkers, which have covered this, so I don't see the big deal... I mean if you didn't know the slant of NBC by now you haven't been paying attention!

Doubly unfortunate she is a teacher. I hope she keeps the conspiracies out of her classroom.

It was eradicate the Zionists.....You define it.........There were other protestors who were hollering F__K the USA....It was sickening.........

What is there to occupy in South Dakota?

Some times I am shocked and occasionally amazed but being shocked and amazed is as rare as Obama doing the thing.
San Diego is is my favorite City in the whole world but alas it's a Sanctuary City run by a bunch of Idiots.
Knowing that is why I am both shocked and amazed that they took this action.
Now if Bloomberg in NYC would grow a pair and remove the unwashed idiots in from the park in NYC that would be a great thing.
You have to pretty much a real scum bag to do what these "protesters" basically wallowing in filth.
I have to say the worst I have heard is there a people there who quit their jobs to "protest" there not being enough jobs.
My God are these fools that stupid? It seems that there was an offer to pay people to protest making the claims of grass roots movement.
I fear this is going to be blood bath before this is over, or at least it will take full riot riot gear by the Police who my have to use serious force to to remove these people. But then they all need a shower from what I hear.

Without knowing or even caring what all the protesting is about, I think at this point it's become quite retarded, and the whole lot of them need to eat a CS canister.

I thought they were all "noble savages" with their communal lifestyle and all that? :)

........ :lamo

Sure there's a lot of traditional religious overtones, but the Lakota are as 'noble savage' as a neighborhood in the middle of a crypts/bloods turf war....come put your cute lil protest over here, it'll go over about as well a Jehovah Witnesses evangelizing Afghanistan.

Honestly, I hate my role as the PC police, but man, you can't say retarded... I mean, how would Sara Palin's kid feel? Seriously though, it's pretty sad when peeps are born with an extra copy of chromosome #21- let's not compare left or right wing idiots to them...

Sara Palin's kid is retarded, he wouldn't care even if he knew the diference.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't lol... but they call them mental disabilities or cognitive handicaps these days. And I do find it ironic that Palin named her son after something he'll never do: Trig.
