Obama pulls plug on part of health overhaul law

Health care reform was debated for like a year. I read the entire bill in one day.

1990 pages in a single day. I'm sure you fully grasped and understood the bill and didn't just skim it going through that much in a day. You've declared you read it in a day so therefore we must expect that you're an export on it.

They didn't offer solutions, they offered NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

It would help if you didn't state utter and unquestionably provable false hoods.

Republican Bill

Your statement was nothing but utter fantasy, and either you knowingly and outright lied without a care in the world simply to push your political agenda and score points like the hyper partisan you are or you were really, really ignorant of what was going on during that time.

Not true. But you seem to be arguing we should destroy private, for profit practice. I disagree.

Obamacare does this, by design. You'll have to be content with the same crap health care everyone else gets.

Top tier care is already being taxed and regulated out of existence.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Please present any support you actually have. Repeating misinformation is not effective.

Government interference in the health care market is already making it impossible to Americans to buy plans they could previously buy, high end coverage and individual plans, to wit.

So, you don't have anything to support your claims? Shocking. :coffeepap

There are more than a million fewer insured people now, than there were before Obamacare.

The dismantling of private health care is well underway.

Can you buy an individual policy like you used to? Does your employer offer the same plans it did before Obamacare?

You do realize that trend was happening before health care reform. In fact, my insure decreased and doubled in price two years before Obama was elected. You are mistaken on the cause.

Couldn't long before ehalth care reform. Again, you are mistaken on what is causing this.

Those plans were available, but they driven out of existence by Obamcare coverage regs. Carriers won't sell students individual policies if they would be covered on their parents plan.

All pain and no gain.

Re: Administration Dismantles Significant Piece of Obamacare

While those on the Right are crying foul about the CLASS Act and going around claiming brownie points for what they consider to be a failed portion of the PPACA, I truly wonder if any of them knows what the CLASS Act was actually designed to do?

Section 8001 of the PPACA (pages 710-729) outline the CLASS Act (Community Living Assistance and Supports). In a nutshell, the CLASS Act was designed to offer low-cost health benefits to clients via a long-term trust similar to what Home Health services or Medicaid provides to disabled individuals today before they reach retirement age. Clients between the ages of 22-65 would pay a premium of $5/month for up to 20 years before being eligible for full benefits. No enrollee would be able to utilize benefits under the CLASS Act for the initial 2-years of enrollment.

To put this another way, CLASS was to be the successor to Medicare, but just as with Home Health services today, the real intent behind the program was to allow clients to pay into an "assisted living" health care system in advance of reaching retirement age. The accumulated premium benefits after 20 years would then be used by the client as a psuedo "health savings account" whereby the claims would pay for health services at a rate of $50/day (or payments could be made on a weekly basis). CLASS was suppose to have open enrollment beginning October 1, 2010 but with all the huppla over restructuring Medicare and the total lack of advertising of the CLASS program, I can understand why this program never gained any traction.

The way I see it, if enrollment was low to begin with and neither employers nor colleges/universities weren't informing their employees/students about the program, it makes sense to scrap it now rather than wait or try to tweak it. Besides, the Sec HHS was suppose to create atleast 3 different benefits packages. I have to wonder why this program was even proposed since:

a) Medicare is still a viable, long-term health care program.
b) Medicaid is still the cheap option for most people living below the poverty line.
c) Most college students are now covered under their parent's health care plan until age 26.
d) Home Health care is still a viable option for most disabled individuals on Medicaid whether they've reached retirement age or not.

Unless some of the above options were taken away, I really can't see CLASS being considered as a viable health benefits program (not health insurance, but rather assisted living health services). Like I said, we already have Medicaid and Medicare. Better this program was scrapped now rather than later since no one seems willing to part with either their co-sponsored health care (Medicaid) or their federal health program (Medicare) anyway.

Translation, government doesn't know what the hell it's doing when it expands its presence in the health care or health insurance market.

This one had to be really bad on paper for Obama to junk it.

No, they are still available. But please, present some evidence if you have any. you've been asked a few times now.

Fewer and fewer carriers sell them. In some states, none sell them. What's the point of the disruption if there is no gain?

fewer and fewer were carrying them before health care reform. How can you blame Obama for that? Again, you confuse cause. And the fact is they still exist and will continue to exist.

Again, please produce support if you have any.

The goal of Obamacare was to undermine private health care choices.

It's working.

Repeating misinformation is not the same as providing support. Are you trying to make conservatives look bad?

Why should government make it more difficult for people to buy the health insurance they have always been able to buy?

They haven't. Again, just repeating misinformation is not the same as providing support.

Of course they have. Many carriers have abandoned selling individual policies and insuring college students under 26 for no other reason than Obamacare.

That is simply not true. They were doing this before reform. Now more are covered, like my son, under my health care. You have your facts wrong. but feel free to try and offer some support.

If I want to buy a catastrophic only policy with a $25,000 deductible, no behavioral or reproductive coverage, can I do that?

Or did government do something to stop that?

Provide support. Don't play games, just put up or move on.

I can't do that. You know I can't. Why should government stop my from buying such a policy?

If you can't, how do you kow it does? If the government stops you, you should be abl to show this. if you can't, it's likely it doesn't.
