Obama Sends U.S. Troops to Central Africa to Aid Campaign Against Rebel Group

Lots of OIL in the Sudan. You know it is never about freedom, liberty, democracy, or human rights. Never!

Except that Obama is not an "oil guy". However, there is no doubt that this jackass in Uganda could be a bigger problem in a few years if he continues to wreak havoc and survive. While he does not seem as moneyed or sophistcated as Bin Laden, we had a lot of warnings about Bin Laden when he was still small fry, and did nothing.

...

For reals? My brother in law is headed there

jealous. do they need an analyst? I'm TAD right now, but I could have my stuff ready to go about 48 hours after hitting Oki.

Props to Obama - hopefully we see alot more of this in the future; particularly in Africa and particularly in South and Central America.

Because last time we had a mission like this it ended in ****ing disaster.

I mean how exactly is this like our mission in Somalia? Just because the two happen to be located on the same continent doesn't mean that it's a "mission like this."

it's also not the last time we had this kind of a mission... as another poster mentioned, this kind of stuff is continuous.

LRA is a "christian" terrorist group. They're basically Al-Qaeda with a different book.

There's no such thing as the, "Religious Right", though.

Maybe while they're there one of them can beat the living hell out of the "witch doctors" who are castrating and murdering children in the name of "good luck and prosperity".

Don't forget the men who are raping little kid virgins thinking it cure AIDS and other ills:(

We're not sending troops to Sudan.

It would behoove you read the article before offering an opinion on someone's assessment who clearly has read it. It quite clearly says troop will be sent to South Sudan.

For reals? My brother in law is headed there, and I am REALLY worried for him. This screams "Blackhawk down" Redux. WTF ARE WE DOING THERE?

Hopefully it is worth it. Hopefully its not one those we help and then a decade or two later they fly planes into our builds or become another China.

Building empire. Conquering the world, whether we like it or not. America sends its military to secure more oil for private industry.

Kampala — Uganda's oil reserves could be as much as that of the Gulf countries, a senior official at the US Department of Energy has said.

Based on the test flow results encountered at the wells so far drilled and other oil numbers, Ms. Sally Kornfeld, a senior analyst in the office of fossil energy went ahead to talk about Uganda's oil reservoirs in the same sentence as Saudi Arabia.

Good. The Lord's Resistance Army is one of the most disgusting terrorist organizations in the world. We should have helped these countries crush this despicable group a long time ago.

When is your port call?

When is your port call?

So I take it you don't support public education unless you yourself are a teacher? And you don't support public police departments unless you yourself are a police officer? And you don't support public fire departments unless you yourself are a firefighter? I'm more interested in discussing the actual subject at hand, rather than whether civilians have a right to voice an opinion on foreign policy.

which is now a separate nation.

:) wrong service - the Navy isn't going. the only land force that makes port calls is the Marines when we are riding around on the boats during Marine Expeditionary Unit deployments. I think you meant to say "when are you getting R&R leave", as that is the operational equivalent.

as for oil, hey, if it's good for us and good for them, then that's just the best of both worlds.

to be fair, he's merely using an attack that many iraq-war-critics used on the "chickenhawks".

of course, you never used such a line, I am sure :).

Joseph Kony is one of the worst human rights villains on this planet today, his attrocities are among the worst ever committed by mankind.

Having said that I'm apprehensive about this mission, the Ugandan army has been fighting this guy for the better part of two decades, I don't think 100 US "Observers" are going to suddenly flush him out, and this seems quite honestly extremely random, like it was a sudden thought he had today... I dunno.

Anyway as I said, apprehensive, not sure why he's suddenly doing it and since it's going to happen anyway, I hope they catch the guy and nail him to a cross using the bayonets of his dead bodygaurds.

About time if you ask me. Now if they can just cut off all that funding he gets and then his little Christian terror empire will die fast.

Good, I'd much prefer the US doing lots of this to Iraq/Afghanistan type situations.

Many people may scoff about just another African madman, but Joseph Kony is no ordinary madman who just cuts off limbs and deal in blood diamonds....
He's a true psycho. When he forces children to join his army, he forces them to rape, kill, and cannibalize their mothers, his soldiers are regularly forced to rape, kill, and cannibalize their victims. Sometimes, they gamble on the gender of the baby of a pregnant woman, then cut up the belly of the mother, kill the baby, and then rape and finish off the mother.

He's no ordinary psycho, he's the living model of the Devil

Then surly going into Iraq to stop Saddam from gassing Kurd villages, invading his neighbors, and killing any citizen of Iraq that opposed his rule was "the right thing to do".

It certainly was, but that wasn't the reason given for the war, hence the opposition.

Aiding a government in it's fight against the entire regions worst enemy using 100 armed advisors is very different from invading an entire nation without provocation resulting in the deaths of 10's of thousands of Iraqi's and hundreds of thousands in the resulting aftermath...

If you wanna use that big a strawman, go put it out on the field to scare crows away, cause it won't work here.
