PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia prosecutors will have to pursue a second death-penalty sentence for convicted police killer Mumia Abu-Jamal or accept a life sentence after the U.S. Supreme Court declined Tuesday to review the racially charged case.
Abu-Jamal still maintains his innocence, and his case is not all that different from that of Troy Davis, also accused of killing a cop, and who was executed, despite a mountain of evidence showing that he was innocent. At least Abu-Jamal is not going to meet the same fate.... For now. Good call, SCOTUS.
