BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration.Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments -- from small towns to large urban districts -- reported a sudden exodus of children of Hispanic parents, some of whom told officials they planned to leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students' immigration status.

What? Passing serious immigration reform actually WORKS? MADNESS! What's next? The state saving money and better able to help American Citizens better? This is an OUTRAGE! That outrage of course being it's taken this long to reach this point.

I think what's next is raising taxes to make up the revenue they just lost by kicking their biggest industry in the balls.

Same thing happened in Oklahoma when it passes HB 1804. Basically anyone here illegally packed their **** up and left. I imagine that the same thing happened in Arizona when it passed SB 1070. Like Oklahoma I imagine that the pro-illegal scum in the media will run boo hoo need illegals stories in Alabama.

Re: Reports of Hispanic Students Vanishing From Alabama Schools After Immigration Rul

When they use a phrase like: "Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools," I find it very prejudicial and used to make it seem ominous.
When Arizona pass their laws against illegals a lot of them just moved to California.
If the laws on the books were enforced against employers a lot of illegals would go back to Mexico except the ones who live in sanctuary cities where they can do no wrong. In San Fransisco they let even the criminals go free. It used to be a great place but now it's a hell hole for freaks that make the hippies of the 60s seem almost normal.

Here Vic, I'll lay it out for you in simple terms. Say you're 15, Hispanic and born in the US but your parents are illegals. When they get scared and run, what happens to you? Do you stay in school and then... what? Pay rent? Food bills? No. You have to go with them. So what has happened? Immigration reform has pulled a US Citizen away from an education they were guaranteed by birth right. He still has access to every little program you don't want teh mexicunz to have access to but at least you get to say good job. Either way, it's one more socioculturally ignorant pseudo-Mexican whose outlook on the world is a mirror image of the American Conservative right. Only he voices it in a Spanish no better than your own, vato. ;)

That's why the anchor baby law needs to change, to prevent parents from cheating the system and then having their wee little ones suffer for it.

Do I have pity for the "15 year old teen ager?" Yes, he didn't set up the situation. But you are the one that's got this ass backwards. It's not the "conservatives" that are to blame for the situation, his law breaking PARENTS are. That's why you and I will never see eye to eye, you cannot fathom people having to pay for the responsibility of their actions. You just see victims.

You know the article's only numbers add up to 220, not exactly amazing success. Also you're measurement of success is how many Hispanic students are no longer present, not illegal immigrants or children of illegal immigrants so you aren't exactly measuring the right thing. And measure how many Hispanics are no longer present is a little... bizarre to put it politely and a little more bluntly it looks as if you're goal may to remove Hispanic students. Not saying it is mind you.

Wouldn't the STUDENTS status be legal in the case you are presenting? If so you have no point.

Using your logic, you blame the criminal system for issuing a warrant on a parent who killed someone when he runs with his family. Your logic is fallacious.

Then blame the parents.

But there are other ways for those children who are American citizens with illegal immigrant parents to stay here. They can stay with someone who is willing to take them in, such as another (legal) family member or a friend. I've known people who were willing to allow a teenager to stay with them for a year or two just to finish school because the parents were moving but the teen didn't want to leave their school. My relatives and a couple of my friends offered to allow me to stay with them when my family moved out of state right before my senior year of high school.

Honestly though, there shouldn't be citizenship based on where you are born. It should fall to what citizenship your parents have. For those here already, if they are old enough, they and their parents should arrange a place for them to live as I described above. If they are younger or no arrangements can be made, then they are still the responsibility of their parents. It is their parents' fault for trying to live illegally in a country, instead of either going through the legal methods of entering/staying in a country or trying to improve their own country.

overcrowding class rooms with illegals is their biggest industry?

There will be no revenue lost because there are plenty of people waiting to fill the holes left. Also, that's gonna save a **** ton of money not having to send illegals into the the school system.

glad you feel so sorry for illegals. all those anchor babies should be stripped of their citizenship. if momi and papi jumped the border and you were born here, you shouldn't be a citizen. now, if momi and papi were here legally (whether on vacation, work visa, etc) then you should be granted birthright citizenship. kind of like if you kill your spouse, you can't collect on the insurance.

no one should benefit from illegal actions.

several of my son's friends are affected by this law. many of the mexicans are miving to FL. however, several of the kids affected are being sponsored by local families and individuals so that they don't have to go back to mexico with their illegal parents or live in a box under the overpass and eat from dumpsters.

Pst - doesn't matter what their status is. When the parents go, so do the kids legal or ilegal.

Re: Reports of Hispanic Students Vanishing From Alabama Schools After Immigration Rul

This is good. It is time for America, like most other nations, to have the respect and common decency to uphold their borders and allow immigrants in legally.

Not necessatrily.

Do you know how to read? Obviously you do but can you also extract the points of a post? Not so much. The point of the post, my dear, was that these reports of "disappearing students" are not indicative of immigration reform working. They're indicative of illegal parents leaving and pulling legal citizens out of schools. Learn to read Abbey.

Yes necessarily. How many 14-15 year olds do you see attending high school and paying rent of ANY demographic?

and the problem with that is?

sorry little Jose, but your mommy and daddy are criminals. they broke the law and came to this country illegally. so, even though you were born here, you must also pay the price of your parent's illegal actions. When you turn 18 or can support yourself, feel free to return to the US.

As it has been said, plenty of friends and family have taken in kids when their parents moved so they can finish the schooling at the school they're currnetly at.

And quite frankly their parents should have considered that possibility. I have absolutely no pity for them.

then immigration reform is working, because the ILLEGAL parents are leaving. sucks for the kids, but blame their criminal parents, not the system.

This is true.

There would be no mess if they had not crossed the border illegally.

Re: Reports of Hispanic Students Vanishing From Alabama Schools After Immigration Rul

In cases where children of parents that get sent to prison, there is child services available. As long as these same services are available to these LEGAL children of illegal parents, I don't have a problem with this.

I do not approve of anchor babies, but right now that is legal so we have to make sire these legal children are taken care of should the parents decide to leave their children in the states upon being deported.
