Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd Read

Re: Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd

Herman Cain has a lot up stairs and I like what he says and the conviction with which he he answers questions is refreshing and beat hell out of most in the debate.

I'm beginning to like Mr. Cain more and more.

That's really great to hear. This is why I think Cain has such tremendous potential, because he is able to rally different segments of the Republican party and even appeal to Independents and Moderates. He is not an ideologue or dogmatic politician, and he has actual ideas for the country instead of just the usual empty rhetoric

I really hope he doesn't misstep and fall from grace, because if he continues on the path he's on right now we may have the best party leader since Reagan

Re: Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd

Isn't this the Straw Poll that whoever won it has been the nominee every year since 1979?
I've read that every one has become the nominee since the beginning of straw polls, which may have been 1979 but I think was earlier. I never checked the validity of that, but it's probably true(at least mostly)

Re: Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd

What if Caine tapped Paul to be VP? Would you still be mud-slinging like this?

well my link got ignored so I wanted to hear responses. I don't understand how wanting a response is so bad. And RP won't accept since Cain won't go after the fed, and remove the troops overseas. He wouldn't even support McCain of his own party last election either.

What! He helped elect Obama????!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget about Cain, send Ron Paul to the gallows!!

First and foremost, Federal Reserve Chairman is an appointed position. Also, The Federal Reserve was not the monstrosity in 1992 like it is now.

He says that he doesn't want to waste money on auditing the federal reserve because it already audits itself. When he's talking about Ron Paul he is encouraging the idea that the federal reserve should be audited by something other than itself, like it is now. Not really a flip flop.

He adds a new tax with the 9-9-9 plan while drastically lowering the tax that is paid now, also whoever the guy is writing this article destroys his credibility with the 666 thing which is probably why the link was ignored by the posters in the forum in the first place.

He supported the idea of TARP, but not the way it was handled or distributed.

He served on a Board of Directors. That doesn't mean he "steered" anything. He was one of many opinions and even the linked article is only the opinons of a lawyer behind a lawsuit that went nowhere.

Crappy editting. I saw the actual video in which he provided a plan to the problems then. The same plan won't work now, because the problems are different.

He supported Romney because of his business record.

His plan for Afghanistan is to take what the Generals have to say into account, unlike the pres now, and make decisions based on what they say.

He said he supported 90% of what's in the Patriot Act. Which most politicians do.

There it has been addressed and been proven irrelevant or wrong. Move on.

It had already been addressed and the words were very close to this posting. Great minds must think alike.

I like both men(Paul and McCain) but their idealogical differences are very wide. Besides, McCain was such a caricature of his former self in 2008 I can't really blame anyone for not supporting him

But Cain and Paul are more similar. Cain has not taken firm stances on foreign policy, basically said what Reagan did back in 1980 that he'd just ask the experts what the best course of action was and then decide. I don't really see a problem with that... Bush definitely didn't ask the best people, he listened to a bunch of intellectual academics ie the neo-cons. Obama didn't ask the best people, he had a White House filled with life-long civilians that quarreled with McChrystal.

Do you remember what H.W. Bush called Reagan's economic plan in 1980? If you don't, please look it up.

Well, the truth has no agenda.

Re: Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd

I think having no record is still better than having Obama's record...Obama had next to no record when he won. The 9-9-9 plan is a great plan...the status quo is getting us nowhere and there is nothing more fair than a flat tax or a consumption tax.

On other notes. He's the only republican that has said anything about health care other than "I'm gonna repeal Obamacare" congratu****inglations. You and every other republican. Cain actually gives ideas on how to improve on the broken system. He's the only candidate that doesn't **** himself when he's asked a question about SS. He gives actual ideas and models on how to fix it.

He's not an empty shell of right wing rhetoric, he gives ideas when others just say **** obama in everything they say.

No it's not...I suppose we're just going to have to disagree on this. Even if I were a conservative and I thought his plans sounded great on paper, they'll never actually materialize once he has to deal with the joke that is Congress. Everything sounds good until you start the bargaining and politicking that is a way of life in Washington.

We will have to agree to disagree :)

But just because congress won't like it, does that mean that we should just let them continue on their way unchecked?

No, I just think that whatever brilliant idea someone has for "changing the whole system," it will never materialize. Like when Obama said he was gonna to Washington, change the culture, and limit the influence of lobbyists, etc. Then he walked smack into the brick wall that is our political system and realized he couldn't get **** done like a dictator, that he had to negotiate with the powers that be.

I'm just a pessimist about Congress in general, the whole institution and the culture of the institution is completely ****ed up.

I'll butt in and say that Obama and clan controlled the white house and congress for two yrs and he could do anything he wanted. And it was he who did not want to change the culture, increase transparency and limit the lobbyists etc. All his campaign rhetoric was just to get elected, nothing more.

Not really. It's true that Dems controlled both Houses, but political realities still required him to compromise to a certain degree. Obamacare in its final form was definitely not what Obama originally had in mind. The stimulus package was a lot smaller and watered down compared to what he originally envisioned as well, just to name a few examples.

And it was he who did not want to change the culture, increase transparency and limit the lobbyists etc. All his campaign rhetoric was just to get elected, nothing more.

You may be right on this one, but honestly I think it's a mix of both.

Money rules everything in america...and congress is no exception.

Those political realities were within his own party.

You may be right on this one, but honestly I think it's a mix of both.

He promised to change the culture, have transparency, kick out the lobbyist, we're going to work together etc. none of what he promised regarding these remarks did he deliver. "Hope and Change" didn't happen.

Re: Breaking News: Herman Cain Wins Florida Presidential Straw Poll, Rick Perry 2nd

Those political realities were within his own party.

It's both though. Because there were divisions within his own party, he naturally had to temper his own desires and expectations towards the middle. I understand that a lot of Republicans feel that they were simply ignored during the first two years, but my point is that despite the fact that the Dems controlled both chambers, Obama didn't have leeway to do whatever the hell it was he wanted to do.

Agreed.

Also DA, I'd like to point out that Obama DID take what his generals said into account. There's a difference, however, between taking what they say into account, and doing whatever it is they tell you.

Agreed, I just think Military generals might no a little more about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That's exactly what I meant but you explained it better than I did.

Mr. Cain appears to be a nice person, but he is unelectable and a waste of time in the national political arena. Yes, he knows how to run a business (KFC for example) but "the chicken king"? Really?

Really now, Obama, with his failures, maybe it's because he didn't run anything.
