U.S. jobs crisis may get bloody; Bloomberg, experts warn of riots

My best guess is that the riots will hold off for a few more years yet, until things have gotten considerably worse. When they come, though, they'll be really nasty.

If you are for the government providing things for "free" then things will inevitably turn 'nasty', just as they will in Western Europe. If you expect personal responsibility from people, as was the case for the first 200 years of American history, then there will be no nastiness.

It's up to the American people whether they choose to be adults or not.

Personal responsibility isn't gonna get you jobs when there aren't any jobs to get.

It's clear from what you are "for" and that, if everyone follows suit, the country will not recover. Taxes will be too high and businesses will continue to leave, just as they're doing now. You'll have a 'brain drain', just as happened in Western Europe and in Canada. At one time these people would go to the United States where taxes were lower and there were greater opportunities. Now the reverse is happening. The United States had better get used to high unemployment, greater debts and higher taxes if they are going to insist on emulating the failures of other countries, rather than learning any lessons from them.

Now the Europeans, and especially Canada, have changed their policies while the United States goes down the same discredited road that others tried a generation ago. How you are going to have all these 'free' services while still expecting the same life style Americans became accustomed to over several generations remains a mystery.

When things get bad, flashpoints become pretty common. All it took for London to go up in flames was a cop shooting a guy, and that happens here like twice a week.
 
Well apparently they shot an unarmed man in the face twice with a submachine gun at point blank.
Cops know better to save their lives in the states I figure.

There's always that aspect to riot, but when people are pushed to a breaking point; things break. The real problem is that nothing the government has done was done to serve the People. It was made to secure their buddies future, to preserve their tomorrow. We bailed out the banks and wall street and such, and when that was done the urgency to fix the problem and reverse the damage was gone. Then it just got bogged down in partisan politics. People are getting pissed. Yes, they should focus their anger. If you're going to riot, go after government stuff, not private business. But there is little focus in a riot, but they can be indicators of overall disgruntled, dissatisfied, and an unserved public.

No, our cops beat homeless people to death in the streets, we're just used to it.

I hear you on the Rodney King thing, and agree as tp how it actually went down. But LA had a bad problem with incidents of police violence being covered up and/or condoned. San Diego had a similar issue, where for two decades, not a single incidence of police on citizen violence was judged inappropriate. Every shoot for twenty years was a "good shoot", even when the escalation to violence was clearly on the part of the police. Not even a "Slow down, hotrod, not every citizen is a "piece of ****", and even math teachers get pissed." Just a blanket condoning of every single act.

The rioters in LA turned a spontaneous response to being told the cops can do whatever they want, whenever they want into an excuse to steal. FROM THOSE WHO THE COPS ACTUALLY PROTECT.

Thry should have sacrificed those cops on the altar of public opinion. If you are one of several cops beating a guy, AND YOU HAVE TO STOP TO REST, you are using, excessive force. Like the cop in SF recentlg that "accidently" shot the kid with the gun from his right hip, which he claims he thought he mistook for the taser on his left hip. Which is complete bull****. Does a Taser weigh anything near as much as a loaded pistol? No. Does it feel anything like a pistol? Not really. Does it have the same kind of safety, in the same location? Doubt it.

So if men with guns can kill our neighbors with impunity, while protecting the property of others, its way to easy to transfer that hate to those unarmed others.

So I'm not excusing the rioters, just making sure the police departments/courts involved, don't get a free pass here. You reap what you sow, and i have had/have seen more than one interaction with an LA cop that was ABSOLUTELY unacceptable.

Just sayin.

Bush was the first president appointed by the Supreme Court, because continuing the recount "could be harmful to the Plaintiff". No ****, "Mr Obvious" Scalia.

You'd think after Roswell, Kennedy, etc. They'd learn to avoid setting off peoples pattern recognition functions. They talk about "optics" all the time. I think it was ***** for Bush to ask the Supremes to interfere in the election in any way. Suspiscious AND *****. Clearly, he believed his victory was more important than the actual outcome. So did the Supreme Court. It was the STOPPING of the recounts that made people furious. The "optics" of a conservative opinion that just happened to hand the election to the conservative candidate.

Should have let it play out, instead of crying to the courts. They had their vote already, just like everybody else. Scalia voted twice.

It's difficult to say whether some of these posters are serious or not. If this s a serious post then the teacher's Unions are even worse than anyone ever imagined.

What are you talking about? Please explain. As is, you post is not at all clear how you connect teacher's unions and the Supreme Court ordering a vote recount to be stopped.

The Supreme Court ruled that ballots in one county could not be counted in a different way than ballots in other counties (i.e., a pregnant chad in Broward county can be counted, but not in Miami-Dade), thus upholding the equal protection clause of the Constitution. The Bush v. Gore decision was a victory for genuine fairness in elections. I wish people would take their partisan blinders off and see it.

To the contrary, the decision was a naked abrogation of authority by the conservatives on the Supreme Court to steal a presidential election. Scalia, Renquist, and Thomas all reversed their previously-held positions on equal protection to reach the desired result, and notably held that their decision would have no precedential value. The court was also rife with conflicts of interest that would have required members of any other court to recuse themselves. It may have been the most corrupt decision in Supreme Court history.

More costly regulations and more taxes take money out of the working man's pocket, everyday.

I think before the Left starts promoting the idea of the working class rioting, they must first think about is imposing the taxes and the regulations.

No reasonable person shoudl object to reasonable regulations. If some are not reasonable, identify them and work to change them. And as taxes don't effect jobs at all, there is no reason to consider them in terms of jobs. We have studies that lowering taxes does not produce jobs, and rasing them does not lose jobs. In of efforts to appease business, our clear masters, we would do better to work for much less and not have healthcare. This woudl do far more to bring business back here than taxes ever will.

The curretn regime has passed far too many regulations.

If I didn't have to pay heavy road use taxes, fuel taxes, FET on tires and IRP registration, I would have more money in my pocket to re-invest in my business; pay for some health insurance for my employees; buy more equipment, thereby creating jobs.

When someone speaks of taxes, it's erroneous to assume that he is speaking strictly of income taxes.
