Flight 93 memorial still $10M short on funds - USATODAY.com

The Flight 93 memorial is projected to cost $72 million. The federal government provided $24 million, $18 million is to come from the state of Pennsylvania, and the remainder is to be raised.

With all due respect to the 40 people on that plane that mustered the fortitude to try to save their own lives... and to all of the Americans whose hearts are in the right place...

ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?!

$72 million? Seriously? Our airport didn't cost the much!

How about half a million for the memorial and $71 million to the first responders that actually saved lives at the cost of their own on that day or have since died of or are suffering from various maladies related, but have no relief or assistance? Sure, let's piss away $72 million on an empty field in rural PA while more and more action heroes die. Un-freaking-real!

The government should take the money right out of defense. We don't need 50,000 troops in Germany, 35,000 in Japan, and 28,500 in Korea. Sorry guys, but those wars are over.

how much did the twin towers one cost? and who provided those funds?

I'd much rather have a memorial to those who died defending themselves and others instead of just giving up.

I'm sure the money can be obtained from private contributors who admire the sacrifice of those on the flight that fought back.

Maybe we shouldn't have given Solyndra $500 million?

Yeah, because there's too much government money tied up in creating green jobs.

You know your indignation would be alot more interesting to all of us if it wasn't quite so covered in crap.

If I had $10 MIL I'd give it to them right now

I'm floored. Truly. What a freakin snub at those that are still suffering... and dying, that may not have to so soon. I can't imagine what kind of memorial in a rural field for forty people could justify $72 million when there are still families in need and people are still dying. This is at best extreme martyrdom, at worst, a means of generating revenue for a small town off their deaths.

We have victim and first responders, their families and loved ones still in need. We are a country in financial crisis... every cent must be wisely spent. To me it just seems like spitting on those who are still suffering. It's spitting on the people of Pennsylvania, also a very cash strapped state. And it hides behind their deaths and false patriotism to put down any questioning of this insane expenditure.

Aside from buying the land, I would think a pretty damn nice memorial could be placed at the site for less than a million dollars. Does that lesson their loss or sacrifice? Hell no. We hold them all in our thoughts and hearts to some degree. Isn't that more important? I refuse to believe that anyone thinks this is an appropriate use of funds relating to 9-11. I understand the need to not risk looking less patriotic and how important it is for many to view these people as heroes in the first sense... But if these people were the heroes that so many believe... then I would like to think they would come back and kick the asses of everyone that supports a $72 million dollar memorial when there are still many suffering from that day.

Maybe you're a troll who is WAY off topic. Stop spamming this thread with partisan talking points or be asked to leave. The issue is spending $72 million on dead heroes and stiffing many still suffering and dying.

Solyndra has nothing to do with this topic and there are plenty of threads for you to spew your partisan rhetoric. There is nothing partisan here.

Maybe, just maybe, there was 10 million bucks, somewhere in the stealfromus package that could have closed this gap. Whatcha think?

I'm simply expressing my outrage at the fact that no one can crap $10 million to complete this project and pointing how easy it would for someone to come up with a measely 10 million somolians.

My apologies, my initial reaction is never to run to the teacher, but to ask nicely to stay on topic, or I would report his attempts to derail the thread, thus, ask a mod to make him leave.

As for the troll comment, again my apologies... it seems to be used rather loosely in this place and have yet to see a warning given. Under the circumstances, since his reply was again off topic and partisan, the shoe seemed to have fit.

Lastly, I have limited time... if I take the time to create a thread for discussion, you can bet I'm going to remind folks to not go so far afield in their replies. If this is going to be a problem, you had better ban me now.

it's also against the rules to comment on moderator warnings
