 remember when the left wing in general and the media in particular were all aghast at the horror of the notion that someone would quote Jefferson at a Tea Party Rally, and how doesn't that mean that all conservatives are so full of anger and violence and rage?

yeah. Expect them to sort of take this with a shrug.

"We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They've got a war, they got a war with us and there's only going to be one winner....

"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out...

Jimmy Hoffa, of course, will naturally be held responsible by the media the next time some nutcase shoots at or otherwise assaults a Republican / Tea Party supporter. Right? Right?

oh, wait, no. not right. Because being a liberal means never being held responsible for your rhetoric. :)

You also have to wonder if Hoffa is smart enough to realize that he's putting Obama into a no-win situation. Either Obama can have a sista-souljah moment and condemn the rhetoric; thereby further angering his union supporters (who are already irritated at his failure to provide jobs and step in in states like Wisconsin) and making it harder for him to win in 2012..... or he can do nothing, thereby providing Republicans with perfect campaign material to demonstrate to independents the anger and violence of Obama's base.... thereby making it harder for him to win in 2012.

Or, maybe, he (like - strangely - so many other national figures) just hasn't fully internalized yet that he lives in the telephone-camera-internet era, and that yes, all the things he says in public to supportive crowds will be available for viewing by a potentially less enthusiastic populace.

Fox Doctors Hoffa Speech To Fabricate Call For Violence | Media Matters for America

Right-wing bloggers misled by dishonest Fox News video editing are attacking Teamsters President James Hoffa, Jr. for supposedly urging violence against Tea Party activists during a Labor Day speech. Conservatives are also attacking President Obama, who appeared at the event, for "sanctioning violence against fellow Americans" by failing to denounce Hoffa. But fuller context included in other Fox segments makes clear that Hoffa wasn't calling for violence but was actually urging the crowd to vote out Republican members of Congress.

During the segment that the bloggers have latched onto, Fox edited out the bolded portion of Hoffa's comments:

HOFFA: Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!

In an initial report on Hoffa's speech at 1 p.m. on Fox News, Ed Henry reported that Hoffa said that "we'll remember in November who's with the working people" and "said of the Tea Party and of Republicans, 'let's take these sons of bitches out.'"

[snip]

This thread is a good example why no one takes hyperpartisans seriously.

Even with the first part you have in bold it still sounds like a call to violence considering who Hoffa is and what the history is of his family and movement.

I watched the speech and Obama did what he always does.

He gave his shout outs to his peeps, and his "in da house" to the senators and everybody.

He is a low class piece of ****. Is that racist to say? I really don't care.

He is the President Of The United States not an MC at a rap concert. Pleasantries is one thing but doing what he does at all his speeches is just low class.

He also took a speech that was for Labor day and again started to attack the Republicans, like it was a campaign speech.

I don't think he knows the difference anymore.

He is supposed to be the President for everybody but he seems to be a President for the Democrats and union members, but not other workers.

I know this thread was about Hoffa, but I think this ties into it.

He is ranting against the right, so the main stream media doesn't give a ****.

How is the weather over there on planet right wing paranoia and crazy?

Just because you keep repeating a small snip of what he said, does not mean that you are right or that the total meaning of what he said will change ....

i saw the clip. even out of context, it's obvious that he's talking about voting.

as for the "war on workers," it's going to be more difficult to solve that than just voting out republicans. making the situation harder for workers has been a truly bipartisan undertaking.

i do find it less than surprising that fox doctored the quote.

it's nice to see that liberals/leftists have decided to toss away the nonsense outrage about violent rhetoric... they should have know it was false outrage the last time this sort of stuff came up

There was very little "outrage" last time this came up.. that is until one of your own started a shooting spree targeting the political opposition...

but regardless of that... the "left" did not have to manipulate comments or take them out of context like what Fox News and you lot have done here.

So what's your contention? Hoffa On Tea Party: 'Take These Son-of-a-Bitches Out' | FoxNews.com

Here, right from the Fox website. So are you saying they report two different things?

Don't worry about Pete, no one takes his comments seriously.

It is clear to anyone being honest that Hoffa was talking about voting and the electoral process.

There is a war in this nation on workers in this nation and no less a dedicated capitalist tool than FORBES magazine has admitted it.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickung...battle-in-the-war-against-unions-is-underway/

There is a war on the progressive reforms of the 20th century which helped build and benefit the middle class in America and it is evident in the legislate agenda in state after state pushed by fascistic groups like ALEC and the CLUB FOR GROWTH and their tea party & GOP sycophants and toadies.

President Hoffa is merely the messenger of the truth that many do not want known because it alerts others to their unholy strategy to destroy America as we know it.

Exactly what was quoted in the Fox article I posted. So what's the left's problem?

Because they left out the bit where he mentioned he was talking about voting and made it sound like he was talking about actual violence. Duh.

Oh I only need one fact... Gabrielle Gifford (D) shot while meeting constituents. That alone makes it politically motivated since she was the target.

Now you can follow the Fox News and GOP talking points attempting to distance themselves from this man and his views and attempt to paint him as some sort of crazy man, but anyone who actually makes up his/her own opinions on subjects will clearly see that the attack was not a random shooting at a random person, but a shooting of a Democratic representative of the United States Congress by a person who had anti-government views, a view that is very much prevalent to the right wing aspect of US politics.

But be my guest and live with your head in the ground... it can be comforting when the facts of issues are hard to bear... both sides do it...

But back to the subject I say... if you can.

Fox News was/is wrong in the way they portraited the comments.. yes or no?

Meh ... screw Hoffa. His union abandoned the labor movement under his Daddy almost at the outset, and switched to voting for Republicans from Nixon onward, about the same time period the Democratic Party abandoned labor as well. Speaking at an Obama rally is just more proof he's of no importance to real reforms; no real union leader would ever be caught dead shilling for a Goldman Sachs houseboy, especially a racist one like Obama.

I said this during the debate before on violent rhetoric, this is emotionally charged crap designed to work the masses into a frenzy. It adds nothing to the discourse and it is, IMO, despicable.

If these obvious agenda-driven media outlets didn't feel the need to resort to such disingenuous tactics for the purposes of their own hyperpartisan lean, perhaps we could actually get some things done and have legitimate political discussions going on. Sadly, that's not the way things are. Fox News knows that their core demographic won't bother to research these things, so they have no problem doing it. Just look at the guy who posted it. You can tell from the video that the piece was chopped and edited. Doesn't that make you question what was left out? Or are you just so determined to have something to attack Obama with that you don't care? Are there seriously not enough legitimate things to criticize Obama about that you have to rely on this kind of weak crap? Personally, I would stick with those things as they don't hurt your credibility as much as this nonsense does.

It's pretty clear what Hoffa meant by his comment:

you are correct. it is :). he used warlike rhetoric to emphasize the importance of his side voting their preferences.

now, you recognize the importance of realizing what someone is saying rather than hyperventilating over the rhetoric. how wonderful! you no doubt will prove to be a consistent, honest left-winger who will apply the exact same standard to everyone who comes before you.

why, I bet if I were to check back in time to the Cathy Giffords shooting, I would find post after post from you denouncing your fellow liberals for their idiotic treatment of Sarah Palin's use of target images!

.... goes back and checks .....

... awww..... shoot. turns out not so much.

What about those of us who haven't changed our stances and consider this type of nonsense to be horse**** regardless of party?
