Man Accused of Decapitating Disabled 7-year old Son

I just refuse to believe crime rates are down. Down from what and when? Every type of crime? Is it a long term trend or a blip? How is the data being reported? Could it be a lot of crimes are being underreported?

We're just talking 'caregiver on cared for minor' statistics - whcih are spotty at best.

But I see no evidence that people 100 years ago - or 500 years ago - were more tolerant or patient. What has changed, statistically, is the number of disabled children who have been born and survived spite their illnesses due to advancements in care. Also, statistically speaking, people of the past had more children - and they died more often of routine childhood illnesses like infections.

But none of this makes for solid debate since it's all presumption - we only have statistics that we can rely on for our country within the last 50 to 75 years - before that and even our own records are spotty at best.

Stories of horror inflicted upon helpless children are the worst. They make me physically ill. I can't wrap my mind around that kind of cruelty. :(

Rightwingers don't believe in facts. They have a leftist bias

What on earth does what he stated have to do with "right wingers"? As somewhat of a "right winger" myself, I do believe in the truth - because the truth has no agenda. But that has nothing to do with the OP nor the post you quoted. I have a novel idea, let's stick to the topic and stop derailing threads with nonsense shall we?

As depressing as the stories in this thread are, there are still glimmers of good deeds by people.

Police: NM kidnapper thwarted by alert neighbor

The pair of 911 calls came in quick succession from a New Mexico mobile home park.

On one, a frantic 12-year-old says her little sister is missing. On the other is the wife of the man who would be credited with saving the 6-year-old from every parent's nightmare.

"We are outside of my mom's house here," Martha Diaz told the dispatcher. "We heard a man going, `Hey, hey let her go. Let her go.' So we turn around ...

"The man came running to us and said, `They stole a little girl.'"

Phillip Garcia, 29, had snatched the girl moments earlier on Monday afternoon in Albuquerque, taking her away in a blue van, police said.

Diaz's husband, Antonio Diaz Chacon, jumped in his black pickup and gave chase. Garcia tried to lose him by driving through a maze of residential streets, "turning, and turning," Diaz Chacon, a 24-year-old mechanic said Tuesday night as a swarm of media stood outside his home to hear his story. The events were interpreted and relayed from Spanish to English by his wife.

Finally, Diaz Chacon said, the man crashed into a telephone pole.

Garcia fled on foot, and Diaz Chacon grabbed the girl and took her home. Garcia then returned to his wrecked van and took off but was later captured by police, authorities said.

OK thanks. I thought we were talking crime in general. Nevermind.

"Daily ass rape" is a legal punishment in the US? What if he enjoys it? What if he's on top? Would that be different?

The word rape infers lack of consent. If he enjoys it, he's likely consenting isn't he?

I shake my head at the all too frequent examples of the far right mentality which savours the prospect of male rape and/or torture as a component of the American way of justice.

I can honestly say that this lefty likes the idea of certain people getting their stool forcefully pushed up daily as well. The perp in this case when convicted seems deserving.

How on earth you made that connection is beyond the pale.

I happen to believe that prison should be a punishment. It is not a hospital to cure people of their criminal behavior that a lot of scumbag sympathizers would have us believe. But idiots insist that these scum should have TVs, air conditioning, weights, libraries and many other luxuries so the only bad thing about prison is what might happen in a episode of OZ. Prison should not be a San Francisco Dormitory on the rough side of town. It should be a prison. As a prison the inmates should work in chain gangs, not have luxuries, not have any freedom to interact with anyone and so on.

And if you're going to make prison like that, then getting into one should be much harder than it is today.

And in making prison like that, you mine as well keep them locked up forever because if you treat someone like an animal for 15 years, and then one day release them, give them nothing but the clothes on their backs and throw them out on the streets, they aren't going to have a clue what to do. Not to mention put them on strict supervision where they breathe wrong they go back. I'm all for making prison a tough place, but in doing so, we MUST make it like Japan, where it is the LAST place you end up, not the first. Once you've exhausted all other options, lock them up. Not the "lock 'em all up" attitude of America. Did you know we have the most people in prison of any nation on the planet, and we have the highest per capita ratio of inmates to civilians? Why is that? Are Americans really that bad, or is our justice system really that ****ed up?

You obviously have ZERO interaction with inmates or the prison system as a whole. If you did, your attitude would be vastly different.

That's why we need to go ahead and zap'em and be done with it.

It is because of scumbag sympathizers why prison is a joke and the worst thing to fear is what might happen in a episode of OZ, which that itself does not deter people because a lot of these people have the attitude that they are Billy Bad Ass and no one can kick their ass. The thing about people like you is that you forget that prison is supposed to be a punishment. The worst thing about prison should be chain gangs, no social life, no luxuries and many other things. The man in the OP if he did it should never be released and if possible a bullet put into his head.

One of the schools I went to as a kid had us go to scared straight program if that counts

When I was in school there was a paddle that was used and we feared Dad when we got home more than anything and we learned there was a right and wrong way to do things. In other words we learned consequences and it was teaching us morality.

Too many people are into this don't force kids to toe the line because it might make them feel bad, and they end up being like the scum bags who do this kind of things.

Fear of serious punishment would be a good thing, I like the way Sheriff Joe treats prisoners in the Maricopa County jail tent city, and it's a cheaper way to house them.

I find it funny that because of the scumbag sympathizer's hatred for Sheriff Joe and attempt to demonize him they basically gave the man fame, made him even more popular and basically revealed that you can have the inmates live in tents, work in chain gangs, eat only bologna sandwiches and not have many luxuries. I guess those scumbag sympathizers thought the rest of the country sympathized with scumbags too and it bit them in the ass.

2 .) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 .) Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 .) Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 .) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 .) For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

This pretty much applies to how people have behaved in any point in history.

Jamesrage, just because someone does not agree with your views on prison does not make them a "Scumbag sympathizer" as you so wonderfully put it. Look my major was Criminal Justice at the University of Mississippi. I had former parole officers as teachers, cops, fbi agent, secret service etc. I lived Criminal Justice for 4-5 years. My emphasis was Homeland Security but I enjoyed taking Correction courses as well. Some offered us a chance to visit maximum security prisons in the state of Mississippi. I never partook. Let me assure you that prisons are used as a punishment. Let me assure you that the horrors that your fickle mind cannot comprehend happen on a day to day basis in prisons. And lets not forget jails which are where one awaits for trial "Innocent until proven guilty"... are sometimes worse than prison. Where innocent people get thrown in jail cells with rapists, murderers, etc all for smoking some weed. But no one likes to think about that part of our Criminal Justice system. None of the taxpayers want to pay money to jails, mental institutions, or rehab centers... no. Everyone wants to let the money go to the prisons... for more walls, more guards, more barbed wire... and it does NOTHING! People are forced to join gangs or die. That's it. This includes non-violent offenders. Not everyone in prison is a bad person. I can assure you most people in prison did not have the luxury of great education, a loving working family/ household. Prison is not so black and white, aka good people don't go to prison, bad people do. Therefore everyone in prison needs to be "zapped" as some have put it. People who know the least love to talk the most. I don't believe anyone in here condones the sick atrocity that this man has committed. No one here is a "Scumbag sympathizer". I have not seen anyone say this man does not deserve harsh punishment for what he has done.

The more people we put in prison, the more people we have to pay for , AIDS care/ medicine, bathroom facilities that can be used by the ever aging population of the prison. Prison needs to be preserved for the WORST of the WORST which yes would include this man. Nonviolent offenders are in prison for far too long, for a far less heinous crime. You mock the system as you talk about air condition, tv's, etc. They are forced to watch specific things on these tv's aka religious channels, etc. It's not ****ing HBO where they can watch whatever they want. If you actually knew anything about the history of prisons punishment throughout history. You would understand it went through various phases. There were times where prison was 100% retribution for crimes, others where it was 100% rehabilitative, even more where it was 100% punishment. And none of these options worked, it needs to be a mixture of these things. It cannot just be one. That did not work, it has not worked, it will not work. There were times where prison was 23 hour lockdown and just a sliver of light to read the bible that they gave you. And people said "that'll fix them right up." and half these people couldn't read and nothing changed and people got mad... it was worthless. It hasn't gotten much better my friend. I hope this educated some of you who feel "We should just zap'em". These are human beings and some deserve to rot in there for life, but others deserve a way out to better themselves and become a productive part of society (non-violent offenders). As someone stated before, you throw an animal in a cage with other rabid and raging animals and let it out 15 years later... what the hell do you think comes out? Humans are animals, no different.

This is why I am a hermit. So much hate and anger in the world. Things are bad all over. Many people are evil. I am happier in my yard, or my room, in my little house, with my pack of dogs. Heaven.

I have agree that being a Hermit has it's perks but it also has a few draw backs, and doesn't protect you from random violence, and being a woman it might make one less safe. I have been a Hermit for about 10 years but not by choice and I miss the companionship of being with someone I can share things with or just talk with.

And no, I am not suggesting you use fear as a reason to change any ones life style, but I do believe everyone needs to be aware at all times of your surroundings and do your best to avoid conflicts because aome people seem to have lost there minds in the past few years.

I don't worry much about the danger of living alone because I am always armed and I'm a pretty big guy.

Well this runied my ****ing week. I feel sick. I cant put into words how disgusted and sad I am.

I enjoy my solitude. I have guns and know how to use them. I am no dainty little miss, either. I can hold my own if need be. And I will kill anyone that invades my turf..which is my house. And my pack of dogs and I are ready if anyone tries.
I, too, miss talking to people sometimes, though. Hence, socializing online. Meeing new folks, using the net for entertainment. I avoid board wars, cliques, mean people, people full of hate it oozes with their words. I don't like all fluff either, but the beauty of the net is, you can log off any time you want. I am beholden to nobody. And I am no alone. I have roommates. Hermitish ones, just like me. We only see each other in passing through the hallway or doing laundry or them going to work or sharing the kitchen at meal time for our individual meals we cook for ourselves although I do leave left over cakes and cookies on the counter for them if they want some. They come home, it's a head nod and everyone is off to their own rooms.

My dogs are my family. My ex husband is my other roomie. He is native american...6ft tall, and can handle himself. We are the best of friends. He has a girlfriend he met online. Someday they will meet. Me, I have just his friendship and I am ok with that. We get along great now that we are not attached via marriage. Do I get lonely? Sometimes, but rarely. I have an affinity with nature..with birds and other critters. Some always come by for a visit. They never speak back and I can't discuss daily things expecting an answer. Their company is enough. Especially the blue jay that sits on my knee when I am gardening, or the hummer that comes in the yard at the same time every day to get the fine mist from the hose for its bath, or the stick bugs that like to hang on my door frame, or the bees that light on my body like those white seeds from the sacred tree in Avatar. So my company is Gods critters...and you guys.
So I can't complain.

Sounds like you have it together, and I congratulate being able to tolerate having an EX around I couldn't do that.

Sums up a lot of how I feel. I used to go out all the time. But these days, there's something in the air (or the water, who knows) and I don't like it. I'm not quite a hermit, but definitely a homebody these days. Most of my time is spent around the house, my garden and the surrounding woods. I have my dog, my few neighbors (who are all really nice except the one man who likes to antagonize my dog), my GF and my brothers family who live right up the road. There's more than enough there to keep me happy.
