Appeals court rules against Obama healthcare law

I'm not lashing out at anyone, just pointing out a trend I see on these boards. Most of the right wing people here were aligned against public health care from the get go because it represented socialism and people taking a free ride; now they are trying to appear moderate, sensible, and discerning based on the uncovered flaws of the bill, as if they were always being moderate.

When the courts uphold something that members of the right enjoy, then it's called justice; if it's something they dislike, it's judicial activism. That's why I don't take the opinions in this thread very seriously.

I am against this health care bill but I am not against public health care in the U.S.

This ruling was the right one. Let us hope the Supremes will uphold the Constitution. They are in doubt.

You seem to be counting your chickens a bit early. So far one court of appeals has upheld the mandate and another has ruled against the mandate. In the latter case, the panel's decision may still be appealed to the full court.

Their position has never changed. Uncovered flaws? These were pointed out as soon as it was voted on and we were able to see what was in it.

The same politicians who are bringing up its unconstitutionality now are the ones who filibustered the bill for ages in the first place until it ended up being the watered down piece of crap that we now see. That's what I'm trying to point out.

The "anti-socialist" brigade is what made this bill ineffectual. They blamed Obama from the start and now they are blaming him again for it being unconstitutional. Well what do you expect? It is the GOP corporate cronies who added their pro-business aspects in the first place.

Bachmann is a nobody. What she thinks doesn't even register on my radar outside of the discussions about her religiosity and ignorance. She is the next Sarah Palin and not a suitable Presidential candidate.

There is no "I told you so" involved. The people fighting the bill now via the courts are of the same ilk that resisted its proper intentions from the get go. :shrug:

And they voted against it.

Barack Obama last night forced his bitterly fought healthcare reform bill through Congress, bringing near-universal coverage to Americans and delivering the first major triumph of his presidency.

After days of manoeuvring by the Democratic party leadership to bring dissident party legislators on board and an impassioned plea on Saturday by Obama, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, confirmed that the votes were in the bag. She said she would not have decided to take the bill to a vote unless the necessary 216 Democrats had been secured to push the move through. As it was, the bill was passed by 219 votes to 212.

"Tonight, at a time when the pundits said it was no longer possible, we rose above the weight of our politics," Obama said during a late-night appearance at the White House.

"This legislation will not fix everything that ails our healthcare system, but it moves us decisively in the right direction. This is what change looks like."

House Democrats hugged and cheered as their vote count hit the magic number of 216, and chanted: "Yes we can."

Every Republican opposed the bill, and 34 Democrats joined them in voting against it.

Yesh yeah, yeah, it's always someone elses fault. The GOP had no say as they were the minority in both parties back then. The infighting was among the Dems.

Historical correction here.
During WW2, there were wages freezes in place, so companies started compensating people with extra benefits like, employer sponsored health insurance plans and retirement pensions, as a way to attract and retain employees.

Second, the government decided to make employer based health insurance an untaxed benefit.

Blaming health insurance companies is scapegoating.

Another fun fact, BCBS was started as a non profit health insurance group.

The waivers were written into the law to prevent businesses from being punished due to preexisting contracts. There is absolutely no evidence that waivers are being granted preferentially.
