Glenn Beck likens Norwegian dead to Hitler youth

Help me out, here. When did Glenn turn into such a snide, cynical smart-mouth? Was it when his show got canked? At some point, he turned into a jerk.

He was always a jerk who knew nothing about the topics he discuss

Yeah, I agree. I think he had a little taste of fame and success and let it all go to his head. He is an egomaniac, and his show became more and more simplified and dumbed down in it's message. Everything = Nazis. I think Beck is so egomaniacal that he actually thought all his viewers were dumb ****s and would never catch on, but his gravy train came to an end...

He's so bad about the Nazi thing that during his interview with Sam Web, the current communist party USA chairman, he claimed that the Nazis were communists because they used the name socialism. Of course, he didn't give Web a chance to correct him and just shouted him down.

How can somebody pretend the Nazis didn't hate Communists? The Reichstags fire was all about spreading fear and hate of Communism.

That just reminds me of the time I heard Beck say that he is against legalizing marijuana because he is a libertarian.

That's like saying, I love eating meat for every meal because I am a vegan. Or, I support Israel because I am a neo Nazi. lol

Good riddance.

Glenn Beck was basically trolling Fox News Network for years.

It seems that it started long before. As some posters and I noted, we occasionally listened to him, in the beginning, while on radio only.
Then fame set in, and he has since been cheered on by sheeple who blindly nod at his every word. Some sort of positive reinforcement, I suppose.
Fame corrupts, and Beck is no exception. He and his followers tell themselves that he has a mission of revealing truth...as they see it.., but what is really happening is some sort of preaching to the choir, stirring the pot, agitating...
Of course, unless he/they are calling for physical unrest, its their right to speak/listen as they wish, and, not being a journalist, Beck isn't obligated to adhere to facts.
Does that sum it up?

Only if you think that those that listen to Beck's show are somehow less intelligent than yourself, which you obviously do. A trademark of the liberal progressive by the way is to adopt that kind of self inflated sense of intellectual superiority.

I think that the more apt question on subjects like this are why is it that these threads seem to predominately involve liberal posters bitching and moaning about what some right leaning pundit says? How come if liberals are supposedly so intellectually superior and enlightened and introspective that they never seem to rail like this on jack ass hacks from their own stable of belief that make incredibly stupid, and outrageous statements. Tubby Eddy Schultz comes to mind, so does Bill Mahr. Both are liberal hack flame throwers that seem to get a pass when they make idiot statements.

No, it seems that when that happens you get the 'oh, he was taken out of context', or some other dismissal and NO accountability.

The so called tolerance of liberals, and liberals that don't want to reveal themselves as such, probably out of a sense of guilt, and shame, are among the most intolerant when it comes to those that disagree with their own narrow mind.

Liberals and progressives here criticized Ed Schultz weeks ago when he was suspended for making crude remarks about a female conservative.

So you are wrong.

There are many shows, political and otherwise, that if someone watches... I consider myself automatically superior of mind. Surely, there are shows about which you feel the same. This is neither unique to the show or as a concept. Everybody does it (exhibit a: Springer).

Want some more of my list?

American Idol, any reality show, anything produced in europe (I'd rather watch a south american soap opera than a euro-washedup-celeb show)...

If as the article suggests (I have no idea who "Glenn Beck" is) his US radio show is no longer on Fox - is that not simply because his views are unpopular or have driven away advertisers or are just not part of the mainstream broadcasting?

If the Guardian article is true - this passage below from the OP link simply suggests he is desperately trying to be controversial to gain listeners on whatever news network his views are now found.

Sagging ratings, a string of damaging remarks and an exodus of advertisers combined earlier this year to end Beck's tenure on the US cable network Fox News.

So, what do "liberals" and intellectual superiority have to do with this?

You must be new here. It is the same old game.

Come up with a recent sex scandal involving a Republican and within 10 minutes somebody has named 20 Democrats doing the same over the last 20 years. You can simply change that to a Democrat in a sex scandal and immediately you will find a list of 20 Republicans.

The one thing about this thread is how Beck and so many have used the term Nazi so freely. I realize Beck has never been in war nor had their lives touched by the crimes committed by the Nazis to innocents. But to call these youths Hitler youth shows you what a little man he is.

I never liked it either when people compared Bush to Hitler. It simply shows their complete ignorance and their sheltered life experiences. In the life of the USA the current population is probably the biggest pile of wussies to ever live here. Thinking they have is so bad.

token response to one of the many vile bilge that spews from that man is not impressive.

Oh give me a break....So I guess if a conservative is being criticized out of possibly, and most likely remarks inflated to make hay, or taken out of context, then conservatives are supposed to shut up and take it eh? That is a great one sided world you have invented in your mind sir.

No, I did not say anything about less intelligent, and if it came across as such, I apologize.
People are prone to being awestruck. Just as many intelligent liberals think of Obama as the second coming, many of those who like and listen to Beck seem to take his every word as gospel.
And for the record, I am far from being a liberal. I am an independent thinker, and disillusioned by those who make strive and unrest a career, politicians and talking heads alike.

Becks radio show was never a part of Fox radio broadcasting...Shows what you know of his show....

If the Guardian article is true - this passage below from the OP link simply suggests he is desperately trying to be controversial to gain listeners on whatever news network his views are now found.

And the Gaurdian is objective when it comes to American right leaning radio shows like Beck? I think not.

So, what do "liberals" and intellectual superiority have to do with this?

I was addressing a couple of posters in this thread who seem to think that if someone listens to Beck's show they are, and I quote....

He and his followers tell themselves that he has a mission of revealing truth...as they see it..

And then Capt America who on page 25 says this...

Captian America said:
Beck is only a topic due to the dispicible people who continually support him by watching.

Now regardless of the fact that Capt America seems to not know that Becks show no longer appears on tv, the slam against the people that listen to his radio show, or read his website is clear...Their is disdain for these fellow Americans that is devolved into some pretty nasty statements that if not online would provoke a situation that these keyboard tough guys may not be able to handle....Why not turn it down a notch and find out first if the context of the statement was what is being portrayed? or is that just too tough, and some find it easier to be putz's!

Not at all, you were simply playing the game of defending your guy by showing what their guy did. Go on and play though.

I just think people who so easily use the term Nazi or Hitler should be called on it and should read the history of the atrocities the Nazis committed.

No, I did not say anything about less intelligent, and if it came across as such, I apologize.

Calling people "sheeple" that blindly follow someone I don't think leads to one being characterized as intelligent does it now?

People are prone to being awestruck. Just as many intelligent liberals think of Obama as the second coming, many of those who like and listen to Beck seem to take his every word as gospel.

And what would be your empirical evidence to back up that absolute statement? Anecdotal quip is not evidence of anything other than maybe you seeing what you wish to see.

And for the record, I am far from being a liberal. I am an independent thinker, and disillusioned by those who make strive and unrest a career, politicians and talking heads alike.

Time and posting will tell in that regard. Many on boards like this seem to mask their true leanings by fraudulent leaning tags. But welcome, and I look forward to debating you.

I absolutely agree that Nazi tag line has been an overused, and now made largely irrelevant term when describing anything pre disposed to the opposite side in debate. Godwining has become sport. However, I asked earlier that the context of Beck's statement be revealed, and got crickets. So the bent of this thread seems to be more aimed at childish, and snide name calling than it does calling out stupid statements made be pundits. I also said earlier that if the context was in tact concerning this, that they were stupid and callous. So maybe the history that should be read by some is a mere number of pages back in this very thread rather than attacking on what you THINK someone is saying.....

We are entitled to our opinions, and we are entitled to interpret these opinions as we please.

That aside, and not being one who pays too much attention to tv shows, why did Beck leave his program on Fox?
His fans seemed to be under the impression he would be creating a different venue of sorts," aiming for greater things" (their words, not mine).

No one is stopping you from posting your opinion, however expect to be called out when you offer your opinion as empirical fact. That you believe that a certain segment of the population are "sheeple" being led by Beck, and not free thinkers like yourself, displays a certain level of conceit that is often displayed today by Obamaphiles more often than not. So it just makes me wonder, that's all. In any case, you are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to say you are just plain wrong.

That aside, and not being one who pays too much attention to tv shows, why did Beck leave his program on Fox?

Well, I don't work for Fox News so I wouldn't be able to say with absolute certainty. But the indication is that he felt that the show on Fox had run its course, and he wanted to move on to do other things. Now, partisans will read into that something different, but be warned that is speculation, and most likely wrong, and designed to lead you.

His fans seemed to be under the impression he would be creating a different venue of sorts," aiming for greater things" (their words, not mine).

there is support for that.

Rather than whining about the possibility that Beck was quoted out of context, (when such a vile callous statement fits perfectly well within his oeuvre) why not look it up yourself, then come back to trumpet your discovery! Maybe you know what you will find, and would rather snipe from the sidelines pretending there is a doubt.

With his new project (GBTV) he answers to no one except his listener since he has no investors except himself and his listeners. He is free to say and do what he wishes on his web channel without the boss man telling him to tone it down or do something else. He also has many plans to go beyond just sitting in front of a microphone or video camera.

I get made fun of all the time here and other places for this, but I believe Glenn Beck is absolutely genuine and believes everything he says. I believe he's passionate about helping people and wants this country to be great again. Does he say some things sometimes that make me facepalm? Of course. He's bound to when he's ad libbing 3 hours on his radio show every single day. But overall, I believe he's a good man with good intentions.

Go ahead and mock me. I care not. :)

Some of you are reading too much into it simply because you despise Glenn Beck. As usual.

Of course we are. Join the movement won't you?

I do not wish to mock, just giving my opinion as I see it. Its what Beck does.
Should he succeed with his new venture, good for him. If not, its what free market is all about.
Many people feel a calling of sorts, and if this is his, he must do what he feels is right.
Time will tell how right he is.
If I may give an example, Ron Paul and his supporters have been mocked for many years, just as we find out now that the dear man has been right all along, and many repeat what he has been saying for years.
History will tell the tale, eventually.

It's not so much of a issue of low intelligence or IQ, or little education. A lot of really intelligent people have joined cults. All of the people in Jim Jones' top circle were highly educated and very smart people. The problem with such people is lack of critical thinking skills especially when it comes to dogmatic beliefs, individuals, and situations. Beck also ties religion into his broadcasts and radio shows, it's just a combination of his personality, leadership skills, and message that sucks people in hard. Hardcore Beck fans are dedicated, travel to meet him and go to his ralies, and will pay top dollar to meet him. Beck can do no wrong, just ask some of the posters here. Even saying these kids were comparable to little Nazis was acceptable.
