Ummm..that is not half salmon half cockroach. More like 99.999% salmon, .001 % cockroach, and according to your source they have not been released in the wild.
Well, you are right... I misunderstood the previous articles, close to a year ago that said the FDA had approved these fish, but they've been blocked so far. Also, the article that discussed one of these fish escaping was actually discussing the POTENTIAL escape.
My bad.
Beyond that, whatever the percentages are, these fish grow twice as big, twice as fast, are super-aggressive and in closed studies found they would extinct "normal" salmon within 40 generations.
BBC News | SCI/TECH | 'Trojan gene' could wipe out fish
To quantify this, the researchers plugged their results into a computer model to find out what would happen if 60 transgenic individuals joined a wild population of 60,000 fish. The population became extinct within just 40 generations. Even a single transgenic animal could have the same effect, they found, although extinction would take longer.
That is what happens to rats eating one variety of GMO corn. Much more narrow than you are presenting it.
That's actually just 1 of, I think it must be close to 20 different studies on variety of GMO foods... and MOST all of them are either too short to draw any longer-term effects, or show some negative effects...
This would be anecdotal evidence at best, but there are DOZENS of stories about animals refusing GMO foods when they have the choice...
They are not really "news" or "science" sources though, so, I'll let you find your own sources on that matter...
Blacksites is only another word for "secret sites"... Area 51 would count as a blacksite if everybody wasn't aware of it and/or whatever stories have come out about there (true or not, this is only to demonstrate)... and if there are military bases that are kept secret, then is it NOT REASONABLE to assume that there are science labs buried underground where nobody really knows about except those working there??
It's also easier to "bend the rules" if you're not worrying about any unwanted publicity.
Or are you laughing because you don't believe that there is such a thing as bases, labs, research facilities, weapons testing, etc, at locations that nobody knows exists beyond those that actually work in those facilities??
There is a difference between a goat with a few genes from spiders, and human being "chimera's", which are limited to embryo stage.
Ok, here's the big question for you :
Is there any way that you could "prove" that they are ACTUALLY being limited to embryonic development?? Or are you just taking it on faith that this is not being done??
But to go back to the original source article of the thread :
However, he called for stricter controls on another type of embryo research, in which animal embryos are implanted with a small amount of human genetic material.
Human-animal hybrids are also created in other countries, many of which have little or no regulation.

So really, we're just taking it on faith that these scientists working in these labs are performing "ethical" genetic engineering research, and are not mad scientists trying to see all the different splices they can make of all different forms of life...
All I'm saying is that this is shocking because of the potential for things to go wrong... and it's better to nip this in the bud instead of allowing a situation like happened with GMO foods, where we were told that because the tomato still LOOKS like a tomato that it's still "SAFE" like a tomato, when pretty much all studies (longer than 90 day studies at least) show at least SOME damage from eating different varieties of GMO foods... here's the problem, these foods are already in the open, they are already contaminating even those that are trying to avoid GMO foods...
And that's not even touching the moral and ethical arguments for this....
