Wu at center of sex allegation

Personally I think it's a crappy thing to hit on your friend's daughter, but I don't think it's criminal.

certainly not, but doubt I would vote for someone who did engage in such behavior

This kind of garbage should not be partisan...doesnt matter if a sexual predator is GOP or DEM in the end they are all scumbag "IF" proven and convicted..
Politicians who are convicted should get the MAX

From a criminal perspective your 100% correct.

From a political perspective proof and conviction is done through the media and by public opinion, in which case your 100% wrong.

this business about republicans needing to be held to some higher standard because many of them run more prominently on "values" issues...

who's IN FAVOR of sexual assault?

what democrat who cheats on his or her spouse is NOT a hypocrite?

it's revealing that some progressives openly expect looser standards of personal morality from their leaders and reps

david wu is OR1, portland, he's in his 7th term, he was on the longest lists of vulnerable democrats last november, republicans targeted him, he survived in portland with about 52%

the public only learned later of the nervous breakdown wu apparently suffered in the final week before the 2010 election---wu's staff attempted interventions, tried to put him under "house arrest," he was belligerent with constituents and supporters, abusive towards female staff, out of touch with reality, sending weird emails, his son said that's what dad does when he's wasted...

Rep. David Wu's staff confronted him over concerns about his mental health | OregonLive.com

in the days before the 04 election allegations surfaced about wu's alleged sexual assault of an ex girlfriend a long time ago at stanford, wu held a press conference and apologized for "inexcusable behavior"

the proud progressives of portland returned mr wu to the house of reps by a plurality of 20

So a democrat caught with his pants down... a big so what.. or is he one of those rare family values democrats promoting abstinence and the sanctity of marriage as one of his core beliefs? If so.. freaking hypocrite!.. if not... again so what...
Gotta agree with Pete on this.

Since Wu's not one of those rare family values democrats that promotes "no means no" and looks down upon someone in power coercing young teenagers into sex, there's nothing hypocritical here, so it's a big so what.

Only one of those controlling, crazy right-wing fundamentalist Christians would criticize a middle-aged man for trying to grab a little under-aged tail. Always going on about the Constitution when it suits their purpose, but when a DEMOCRAT is involved they suddenly "forget" about liberty and the pursuit of happiness -- two of our most fundamental rights.

WOW, are you saying it takes a family values democrat to understand that "no mean no"? Are you saying that you don't understand the concept?

I think the point some of the left leaning posters are trying to make is that hypocrisy can occur to degrees.

I think all politicians tacitly run on "family values". A lot of republicans tout their "family values" as one of the main reasons why someone should vote for them over the "anti-family" democrat. They're "stronger" on family values than their democratic counterpart. When that very same person then gets caught having a gay three-way in a church... it's not just hypocritical, it's extremely hypocritical.

(Am pretty sure he was being sarcastic...)

Just to make the point...rape and sexual harassment have exactly jack **** to do with the usual meanings of family values. Hypocrisy or not is not an issue here, but potential criminal activity.

So...straight up...dood is getting hit with an allegation of unwanted sexual conduct...why are we talking about ANYTHING or ANYONE other than Wu?

Only making light of Pete's post, which said this is no big deal because Democrats don't preach family values.

I think I'm with Pete on this one. The key word here is "allegation". These are "alleged" crimes. You are innocent until proven guilty. If it was indeed unwanted I think Pete would agree that he should resign and be punished, but these are only allegations.

She says it was unwanted, he says it wasn't. The one making the claim has the burden of proof though. It sucks that sex abuse allegations are difficult to prove, but that's the reality of the situation. His past behavior and erratic behavior do not automatically make him guilty. It doesn't mean he's innocent either. We just don't know.

"Unwanted Sex" might mean that she did not initate sex, or ask Wu to have sex. There is no news report indicating that she had said, "No." or given other indications that she was refusing permission.
