Obama, Boehner at war over debt talk collapse

I wonder if the rightwingers will ever admit that spending under Obama includes spending for things passed by republicans (ex Medicare D, TARP, TSA, HSA, 2 wars, Transportatin, Farm and Energy bills) not to mention servicing all the debt piled up by Reagan, GHWB and bush*

I doubt it.
I am going to entertain your silliness here for a moment, now think about this, between Reagan, GHWB and Bush, the was Clinton. Now Clinton supposedly had a balanced budget and no deficit with a surplus correct, so how can Reagan GHWB deficits jump over the Clinton administration and be transferred to Bush administration.

Now how can you defend the Obama administration for spending on what you quoted as, "(ex Medicare D, TARP, TSA, HSA, 2 wars, Transportatin, Farm and Energy bills)".

he has the balls to let Senate Democrats force him to change his deal at the last moment, scuttling it?

wow, now that's leadership.

He's the president, not a dictator. Boehner can't control the repubs, and BO can't control the dems.

Our "leaders" are doing nothing but posturing for the next round of elections

It's the rightwingers who are making stuff up and telling lies about how there are no plans.

OK. So what is Obama's plan? How many plans has he had, apart from the one which was rejected 97-0, that was turned down by the 'rightwingers'? It seems his only plan so far was turned down be everyone, but you seem to believe otherwise.

What merits do you see in his plan and which part do you find most appealing? Please use quotes.

Expect this to happen in the next few days...

1.) Reaching for a small, short term deal, which is what Republicans wanted in the first place. They need GOP campaign material, and why not about the countries debt crisis. Obama wanted a long term deal, through 2013, so this issue would not be as big in the elections, but Republicans KNOW he wants this, and are doing everything they can to just kick the can down the road.

2.) If short term agreements fail, expected Obama to call a press conference envoking his 14th ammendment rights. Bill Clinton thinks he should do it, even some GOP members thinks he should do it, and I would back him on it. Of course the GOP will come back and fuel the already crazy Tea-Party roots, saying he is attempting to kill democracy, take over the United States, A nazi... and so on. It would be a gamble with his re-election, but I think the American people would rally behind him, considering he is doing this for the better of the country, not for his own personal gains. Atleast... you would have to be an idiot to think he's doing it to kill democracy, but after what I have seen the tea-party represent over the last year, nothing would surprise me.

Good analysis and Welcome to DP!!

I agre with your #1. They will kick the can down the road because there is no leadership in DC. I'm not sure about the 2nd prediction, but it's certainly within the realm of possibility

Easy. When Clinton created a surplus, that didn't make the debt that had accumulated under the Reagan/Bush spending spree just disappear. It still needed to be paid off, and the surplus Clinton created should have been used to pay down that down that debt. bush* even campaigned on a promise to use a share of the surplus to pay down the debt. Instead, he blew up the surplus with wild spending, creating record breaking deficits and a near doubling of the national debt.

Now how can you defend the Obama administration for spending on what you quoted as, "(ex Medicare D, TARP, TSA, HSA, 2 wars, Transportatin, Farm and Energy bills)".

Another easy question. Obama has to spend money on those programs because IT'S THE LAW. He doesn't have the choice to not fund Medicare D. It's the law. He doesn't have a choice to not pay the interest on the debt. It's the law. He doesn't have the choice to not pay for the other republican spending bills. It's the law

You should make up your mind as to whether or not he had no plans, or he had several plans.

Obama changed the deal at the last minute, and Bohner said "No thanks".

I fail to see his actions as being wrong here.

I haven't made up my mind yet on how many plans he had. So far, as mentioned, there has been one, and that was rejected 97-0. Did you know that?

But you made the claim, again that, "It's the rightwingers who are making stuff up and telling lies about how there are no plans".

To prevent any right wingers from making stuff up about his plans, why don't you show them and then they can be debated ?

What did you like most from the plans you saw?

See Obama was the nice adult here just wanting higher taxes and more government spending and Boehner said "woah man, we're like way over budget here, and like no dude, we gotta stop spending"

So all the little Obamalytes are now going all emo.

First of all, I find it offensive as an emo kid that you are calling these Obama fans emo. Guess what, they aren't. OK? People really need to get out of their stereotyping of emo kids.

But on topic, I am not really that surprised. I blame the Republicans somewhat more than the Democrats, but I worry about what will happen to ordinary people because these idiots couldn't make up their minds.

There you go, so instead of trying to but a left and right wing label on everything, try realizing that the problem is that our behemoth of a government is to big and spends to much and endeavors into activities that are unconstitutional at the expense of the rights and monies of the American people. The democratic and republican party are equally as guilty in these costly activities that it tries to peddle onto us as a worthy cause, and the American people fall for it hook line and sinker every time so that every four year they can get slapped in the face yet once again.

I find it surprising that Vic is calling someone else emo. :2razz:

Once again, you are changing your story. First, there were none. Now, you say there was only one.

There have been many proposals going back and forth. Let me know when you're ready to discuss the facts.

Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!

You continue to be a stitch!

It's called "projection" which is a psychological reaction that primarily affects rightwingers.

Obama is just proving that he has the maturity level of a child. They way is arrogantly attacking Republicans and ignoring the faults of the Democrats only shows his lack of leadership skills. It's extremely immature and unprofessional to order around those you need to compromise with. His sheer disrespect is disgusting in my opinion.

There YOU go again. Instead of recognizing the fact that republicans can't balance a budget even when handed a surplus, you want to blame "govt" as if the democrats success in creating a surplus never happened.

The GOP campaigns on cutting spending and balancing budgets, but when in office, they spend like drunken sailors on leave. It doesn't matter how many times the repubs betray their rightwing principles; some people will continue to hold them blameless.

I am curious why people think he lacks leadership skills on this one. It is quite obvious that he is leading the conversation.

Read your statement again, admission by your own words and I didn't feel the need to quote I figured you would figure it out for yourself.

I think because it's turning into a he said she said scenario.

Rightwingers see what they want to see. Eight years of repubicans on a spending spree, and they think it's all Obamas' fault.

I don't see him as willing to compromise or make peace. He is being very aggressive and dividing the issue by partisanly attacking the Republicans and essentially ordering them around. When two parties need to compromise things should be done in a respectful manner, not with arrogance and disrespect. I think he is acting very immaturely and handling this issue very poorly.

Explain to me how the government can have a surplus when the government is in debt?

True enough, but it takes two people to have a he said, she said scenario. Clearly the other party to this is Boehner. So I'd say both sides are at fault for that.

Digs, that's been happening on both sides, if you've been following the conversation.
