Explosions In Norway

Oslo police have released the name of the man who did this. He is a blond haired, blue eyed, right winger

How do they know he is a 'right winger"?

Did he want the Norwegian budget balanced?

There are lots of right wing Christian fundamentalists in the United States, but someone like Timothy McVeigh is a rarity. I would suspect that the same is true in Norway.

But of course we all know that Timothy McVeigh was not a Christian nor a Christian fundamentalist. He was an agnostic.

All jokes aside, I'm at a loss for words at the tragedy Norway is facing. I can't even imagine what the parents of all those kids he killed must be feeling. What a ****ing animal.

I'm glad they caught him and I commend the Prime Minister for his words yesterday about Norway standing strong and refusing to be defeated in any way by the likes of this revolting "human being".

Spent some time in Norway several years ago, in Bergen. and their warmth, friendliness and hospitality were outstanding.

It is an incredible and sad tragedy. These were good people.

These are the collected writings of Anders Behring Breivik, accused of killing more than 84 young people at a Labour Party gathering in Norway and at least seven in a car bombing in Oslo. These are comments he posted on the right-wing site document.no

The Political Thinking of Anders Behring Breivik | Doug Saunders

A very interesting document and thanks for posting it.

A Brit friend told me some time ago that there would be blood in the streets in Europe should the present trends continue and I mildly disagreed. It seems he might be right.

His motives for murdering children are certainly unclear. That is an act of madness disassociated from what we see on his blog, which was all social and political commentary..

Giffords. Did we not learn anything from that episode?

The links are unavailable and in Norwegian.

Since when is Wikipedia unavailable where you are? Dont tell me you lived in a censored world?

Edit: blame the board software.. for some reason it moved "[/url]" into the middle of the url text. But all you had to do was click on link "did you mean"...

And yes it is in Norwegian, so what.. ever heard of google translate? The original story was only posted 2 hours ago, so it takes time for it to be spread to the English speaking world.

What is "not right wing enough"?

Good question.. I suspect it has something to do with his issues with the parties immigration policies.. if it was because he thought they were too strict or not strict enough, well time will tell.

No problem. Was able to track it down. It seems the Progress Party is in line with the thinking of many Europeans. It's philosophies are not all that uncommon in Europe and are being opposed by the "leftwingers", whose visions for Europe's future appear to be quite different.

Yes, I'm familiar with Google translate, as well as its unreliability.

The blog containing his views has been posted.

It is the far right of European politics based on xenophobia and anti-immigration feelings.

Yea and the NYT posted that it was Islamists claiming responsibility.... just saying. I am reading the comments over the next few hours in the original version. But from what I have read already.... he is a right winger on the extreme right. He rambles on about political correctness and Marxists. He dislikes the UN and multiculturalism... So far all classic right wing policies.

The guy who did this is in fact a right-winger. (Norway: 'At least 87' killed in terror attacks - Telegraph) ]

I'm just curious as to how you came to your conclusion? The first link doesn't state anything about his beliefs that I saw. The last one had this.

There are signs the local farmer, 32, may have had right-wing, Christian fundamentalist views

Is this not what the media did with the Giffords episode but then had to wipe the egg from their faces? The article states *may*, you state *fact*.

Okay I have read back almost 3 years of his rantings.

He sounds like quite a few of the right wingers on these boards. Does this sound familiar?

Islam(isme) har historisk ført til 300 millioner dødsfall
Kommunisme har historisk ført til 100 millioner dødsfall
Nazisme har historisk ført til 6-20 millioner dødsfall

Islam has historically killed 300 million people
Communism has historically killed 100 million people
Nazism has historically killed 6-20 million people.

Kinda chilling.

He is against multiculturalism, dislikes the UN as he sees them as forcing multiculturalism on countries with its refugee policies. He blames Muslims and left wingers for everything and is a cultural conservative. He also rambles on how weak the "conservative" parties have become in Norway (including the party he was a member off) and Europe and that if they implemented the strict cultural conservative views he had, then people would flock to them.

He believes his church is weak (he is a protestant, baptised at 15 by his own choice) and wants "back to basics".. he even hints on wanting Norway to become Roman Catholic again...

He also mentions his admiration of Lou Dobbs for standing up to the political correct mass media over illegal immigration in the US.

Also he left the party because he thought they were too political correct and weak on cultural and immigration policies... which is impressive considering their official policies.

There is much more but would take a lot of time to jot down.

Pete was right in the beginning. He said it could have been a right winger, and he mentioned the right wing over there makes the American GOP look like ******s. So now I am a little concerned. It's frightening that Pete was right, and I am wondering what the heck is wrong with the right wing over there. What does their right wing do exactly? What are their goals? Is this going to happen more often?

When I lived in Germany the NPD Party was basically the neo nazi party and filled with hate, but it wasn't that strong. The most I saw them do was try to have nazi rallies march in the streets, but people would quickly counter protest them and they were outnumbered. The right wing in Germany doesn't seem bad at all compared to this.

Not sure if this was updated already (didn't look through more than a few pages back), but just heard on the radio now that the number of deaths is currently 92. RIP.

Just one clarification... when I say right winger then it is a rather large segment. I based the comment on the fact that it was left wing youth and a left wing government buildings that were attacked. I had no idea at the time how far he might be on the right wing, but from what we know now, it is pretty far out there.

So this guy is on the far far right wing and is a small minority. The old fashioned right wing (democrats or moderate Republicans in US speak) are by far the largest portion of the right wing in Europe. Now there are overlapping political views of the far far right and the traditional right but that is mostly on the economic front and certain social aspects. Where they differ is often on cultural and immigration issues and in some cases religious. This guy is closer to the Neo Nazies than the traditional right wing, but never the less his political views almost solely belong on the right wing of the political spectrum. Oh and he is also a big time nationalist...

The distance between Utoya Island and Oslo is about 25 miles. So 2 hours would have been ample time to set off a car bomb in Oslo and then drive to Utoya.

When you refer to Lake Ressvetnet, what lake are you talking about? I searched the Internet and nothing came up.

Also, Utoya is on the Tyrifjorden.
Thats a different Utoya

Rossvatnet Lake is the lake where Uytoa Island is located. I misspelled Rossvetnet. It is 500 miles from Oslo through mountains. Lake Rossvatnet is in southern Nordland County close to the border with Sweden. Utoya Island is a long way from Oslo.

Lake Rossvatnet is a large lake. It is in a very remote region of Norway. This guy had to have help. When you find Lake Rossvetnet look for Uytoa Island off of a south facing shore around mid lake.

This is the coordinates of Uytoa Island. The placement on map is
+65° 48' 5.56", +14° 0' 6.85" or 65.801545, 14.001904

You are wrong and Spaceman_Spiff is correct. The Utoeya in question is on Tyrifjörden. c.40km from Oslo.

The island is 1 hour away from Oslo in a car/bus. The attacks on the island started 2 hours after the bombing.

He might have had help, but he could also have done it himself.

You all are wrong. The Island is 500 miles from Olso. Look at google maps satilite image of the Uytoa Island in Rossvetnet lake. It is the exact shape and distance from shore as the one they are showing on the news.
