House to Vote on "Cut, Cap, and Balance" Bill

Yet Obama has praised their work

Yes, he said they did a good job. Which they did.

You may have me confused with sangha at this point, but I think that cutting the tax rate is a good idea. Especially since they are getting rid of loopholes, which will actually cause revenue to go up. It's a good bi-partisan plan which is just what we need.

Getting rid of the AMT is also good

I'm not sure why setting spending limits and a balanced budget amendment are bad things....Many states have balance budget amendments and seem to do relatively well paying for services w/o screwing the pooch to do so.

Spending limits can be ignored, as they usually are. The whole debt ceiling is nothing more than a joke; it's temporary nature is Congress laughing at the American people.

You may be surprised, but I agree with that. Too many middle-class folks get caught up in that. It's a tax policy that didn't work, so out it goes.

I agree. A statuatory limit on spending can be overriden by another piece of legislation. It's just gives the rightwing a chance to save face by saying "See, we cut spending" while they warm up their govt credit cards.

I think the GOP learned their lesson in 2006. They will get back to conservative principles and the tea party will be a big influence.

Then why are the republicans, once again, ready to agree to tax increases in exchange for a promise to cut spending in the future? The current proposal does not identify one cent of spending cuts
