China asked the United States to retract an invitation for Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, to meet with President Barack Obama at the White House, saying on Saturday that it could sour relations between the two countries.

"We firmly oppose any foreign official to meet with the Dalai Lama in any form,'' Hong Lei, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on the ministry's website.
Hong also called on Washington "honor its [China's] serious commitment that recognizes Tibet as part of China."

This isn't the first time China has gotten it's shorts all in a wad over a Dalai Lama invitation to the White House. Ironically, the Dalai Lama isn't a citizen of China. Of course it is Tibet that is the source of embarrassment to the Chinese. The Chinese have practiced genocide in Tibet for decades.

tell china to piss off.

China complains about other countries interfering in its internal relations, but they ignore questions about the legality of some of the lands that they occupy and claim when in reality those are international questions. Tibet is such a case. Tibet was an independent country independent and separate from China with a functioning government, currency and borders when the Chinese invaded in 1950. The invasion and annexation of Tibet was illegal, something they will not even address.
