More than 200 D.C. teachers fired

I agree. If the person cannot get another (or same) job at a comparable (or same) pay, then the employer proved the employee was the suck.
 
Standardized testing has become the center of the educational process in the schools. Schools and their employees know they will rise and fall as do their scores. Why is it any surprise that people will do whatever they have to do to produce the numbers that please those who demand them?

If that means shortcuts and cheating, why would education be any different than the rest of the world?

what gets measured, gets done
and if getting the kids to pass the test does not get done, then they change the measure
as we see in the atlanta school system

seems we have a forum member who believes the atlanta fraud was undertaken as a whim and not because of the career repercussions of inferior scores

A high stakes test does encourage cheating .. period. rightwingers only help to promote these actions.... Any one that tries to promote such a very weak minded morally corrupt idea is ignoring the facts that have been posted.

Or perhaps you can explain how testing children on material they never covered in a classroom is holding them accountable?

That would be a real education for all of us.

Exactly, that's what No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Texas Miracle have brought us. This was Bush's claim to fame when he ran for president in 2000. I have no problem with standardize testing, but it should be used as diagnostic test to help, not one to bash schools and teachers. But of course Bush wanted to bash public schools and make a case for vouchers.

shh, don't tell my principal that i didn't quite get to trig standard 15.0 (polar coordinates) in the curriculum standards this year

which precludes, naturally, 16.0, operations in polar coords

teachers are under a great deal of pressure these days to cover all the standards

one of my district's top EMPHASES the last 2 years, as a matter of fact, is for all teachers to have posted in clear view every day the exact standard the class is working on

really, classes all over N CA, upper left hand corner of the board: "trig 16.0: adding and subtracting complex numbers in polar form"

When the government pays $600 for a hammer it is nearly always because the government asked for the hammer to do things one would not normally expect a hammer to do. Such was the case for the $600 dollar hammer. I am also aware of a coffeepot that had classified specifications. That one cost a few thousands of dollars. So do you want the truth or are you only happy when repeating your talking point?

Unions/The MOB have but one bargaining chip.........ON STRIKE!.......doing financial harm and possible destroying the business that employs them. Thats it....thats all....put the money in the bag or were going to shut you down.

However, if you actually want to engage in debate and not just preaching to the trees, you should present evidence to support your allegations.

Well most teachers arent federal workers....most are employed by the State or Municipality. And like most state level Public Sector Union Slobs.......when you dont put the money in the bag as they demand........they kick, scream, cry, and strike.
