Gov. urges Oklahomans to pray for rain

It makes people frightened by the unknown feel more at ease, its sort of like a drug or placebo effect.

Sort of like smoking pot?

Does about as much good in the area of problem solving, if that is what you mean. :sun

No, I was addressing your statement. Your statement didn't deal with how well it worked to solve ones problems only in how one feels about the problems.

My meaning was that prayer is as effective at problem solving as your example of smoking pot (or a placebo, take your pick)!

O.K. So can I take it that you have a problem with people dealing with their problems in these other ways also?

As long as we are on this subject …. . I'm just wondering … is it mostly liberals at that are Atheists???

Or smoking crack? Man...what kind of an idiot would both advocate for prayer as a political figure AND have a history of smoking crack while being an elected official.

You must truly HATE Obama because his skin color for saying such things...

LOL, silly :lamo

'Massive heat wave' on way; Okla. tries prayer - Weather - msnbc.com

In the thick of the heat wave is Oklahoma where Gov. Mary Fallin asked Oklahomans to pray for rain this Sunday.

"The power of prayer is a wonderful thing, and I would ask every Oklahoman to look to a greater power this weekend and ask for rain," Fallin said in a news release on Thursday.
Fallin on Thursday also issued a ban on outdoor burning for the western half of the state because of the extreme drought conditions.

Prayer does not work, never has, never will. There is ZERO scientific evidence. it only give people that warm fuzzy feeling.

I haven't read the rest of this thread, so I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but while praying for good weather indeed has never hurt anyone, the same could be said for environmental restrictions which would help reduce the likelihood of heat waves and droughts from happening in the first place.

What restrictions would prevent heat waves?

Not at all, they can do as they please but neither does anything to deal with their problems, it just makes them feel better. That was my point.

Human produced C02 is forcing the warming of the planet. CO2 restrictions would help stop that trend.

O.K. Fair enough.

Obama didn't smoke crack... :/ get your drugs right. He snorted coke.

Heat waves have been the trend for centuries.

Texas and Oklahoma are suffering from drought. Don't have the wisdom to know if prayer will have any positive impact on mitigating the problems.

But it is morbidly fascinating on how some find delight with ridiculing those who may find value/comfort in praying to God.....

.

How dare you suggest that global warming is something that occurs naturally. Next thing you know you will suggest that the earth is round or that the earth revolves around the sun instead of the sun revolving around the earth.

I'm glad I don't live in the bible belt. But then I have to deal with the retarded liberals here in CA. Teaching 'gay history' in public schools etc... sigh. At least we have people pushing for gay rights and ending prohibition though.

What is wrong with people getting a warm and fuzzy feeling?

An acting Governor whether in Texas or Oklahoma should not use the power of their office to promote religion. This includes asking people to pray for rain or attend a prayer rally.

I completely and utterly disagree. This causes no harm, and even increases the morale and unity of its citizens. An appeal to a higher authority may be one of our saving graces.

Crack...coke...poles...I dont hate the man enough to know precisely which drug or who he did it with. Im just shocked at the number of liberals that despise him so much. Must be that race thing in action...

It causes harm if people see prayer as an alternative to personal responsibility.

You think that's what the bible teaches? People use all kinds of stuff as an alternative to personal responsibility, and it ain't nothin's fault but their own.

I see the analogy with government that you're trying to draw, but don't think it holds. It is much easier to predict what happens with government, with prayer you don't assume any outcome.
