U.S. decrees that marijuana has no accepted medical use

"I'm going get stoned so I feel no pain." Yea, it's for the pain. It's not for the high you get smoking weed. It has no medical uses, it kills pain because it makes you high. Ice kills pain too. It also helps the healing process.

But that being said, as long as you're not forcing someone to smoke a blunt, I don't care what you do. It's your body, but don't give me some bullshyt ass excuse that you're smoking it for medical reasons. You're smoking it to get high. Pain killers kill the pain, but without the high. No wonder the dope fiends want to smoke dope.

We have plenty of meds out there that can alleviate pain. Don't give me that ****. :lamo

Marijuana doesn't just kill pain. It counteracts the nausea and loss of appetite associated with chemotherapy and radiation treatment. It's a safe and natural alternative to the slew of synthetic medications that also carry terrible side effects. There are people out there who use it as legitimate medication. Just because pot can be fun and recreational doesn't negate it's medicinal potential. Morphine can be fun and recreational too, but it also has medicinal uses and is currently less illegal than marijuana.

So, I had a conversation with my Urologist.

"We are going to put you on Elmiron. We don't know how it works, just that it does."

"What do you mean you don't know how it works?"

"Well, they haven't been able to figure that out just yet."

"Oh, okay."

Common Side Effects of Elmiron
Elmiron has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in another group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" that does not contain any active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group not taking the medicine.

The most common Elmiron side effects (occurring in approximately 1 percent to 4 percent of people) include:

Hair loss
Diarrhea
Nausea
Headache
Blood in the stool
Unexplained rash
Bruising
Indigestion
Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
Increase in liver enzymes
Dizziness.

Yes, I have some of the side effects.

Mow, Mr. Judgemental, which alternative is best?

1) It's not just for pain, it has a number of other uses (preventing the nausea and lack of appetite for chemo patients is at the top of the list).

2) Most other things prescribed for pain are substantially more addictive and ultimately dangerous than marijuana.

You can bet your ass I will be at the polls, but this may well be the straw that has broken the camel's back for me. Assuming it's Romney v Obama, I'm strongly considering voting independent. I will however vote Obama over a few potential candidates I will leave unnamed. Don't assume all liberals (or conservatives for that matter) will vote straight ticket regardless of political climate.

All? No... 95%... yes.

You should check for alternatives if the side effects are bothering you. Consult with your Doctor and if you don't want to take it, dont. You should also do some research on your condition and check with support groups and what others have found works for them. Just a cursory check for IC type conditions yielded quite a lot:

Atarax
Vesicare
Saroten (Elavil)

CystoProtek & Deser Harest Aloe Vera
Licorice Root
Quercetin
Glucosamine Sulfate
Mullein
Slippery Elm
Probiotics
Marshamallow Root
Flax Seed Oil
Bladder-Q
Quercetin
Hyaluronic Acid

Marijuana wasn't (fortunately or unfortunately) on the list. More than a few seemed to like the CystoProtek & Deser Harest Aloe Vera combo even when taken with Elmiron.

Yeah, if it's all the same to you I'll stick to my highly trained doctors advice.

I'm also on Savella and Ambien, both of which I could stop if pot were legally available.

At least every 6 months I have to get a bladder treatment. Guess what medicine they fill my bladder with? Elmiron. I did at first try alternatives, back when I had no health insurance. Nothing helped. The pain from IC is estimated to be as painful as the final stages of a cancer patient. Now that it is being treated it is mostly bearable. But god forbid a pot smoking hippie like myself have access to safer pain remedies. (I quit pot in 1972, BTW)

I do know as well that in Colorado legalizing medical pot has created a very successful cottage industry. Yeah, I know, how dare little people rob Big Pharma like that. They should all just quit and go back to welfare and unemployment.

So what? People get high off of oxys, too. People get high off of a lot of things. It doesn't reduce medical value.

And what's so wrong with getting high? People have been doing it since the dawn of human civilization. Every time you drink caffeine, you are under the influence of a psychoactive substance. MSG is more harmful than pot. I just don't understand the outrage.

If marijuana was good enough for George Washington and other founding fathers, then it's good enough for me. I don't use, but I have no problem with anybody else using it. Hell, even if I did, it's none of my damn business anyways, and it's certainly not the government's damn business either.

Wow... You really don't know whit about history do you?

As a farmer, Washington grew marijuana on his farm and promoted it's growth. (In the 1790s, the crop was grown mainly for its industrial value as hemp and for soil stabilization. It was many years later that the recreational and illegal use of marijuana became popular.)
George Washington the Man: Interesting Facts About George Washington

See folks, this is why MJ is illegal, it makes your judgement.. go to pot.

I would say that the high from pain killers is much more prevalent than the high from pot.

if you are over 18, and one can only possess a small amount.

in order to grow it, you should get a license. and there should be govt. regulated distribution centers for such grown weed.

Disagree. I see no reason not to let people grow it in private gardens. People can legally make their own liquor, after all.
