U.S. decrees that marijuana has no accepted medical use

Medical marijuana: U.S. rules that marijuana has no accepted medical use - latimes.com

The decision by the DEA comes almost nine years after medical marijuana supporters asked the government to reclassify cannabis to take into account a growing body of research that shows its effectiveness in treating certain diseases.

What the hell is going on???

First Obama was or may still be a Pot head and Coke freak and he wants you to think he learned the error of his ways.

Next Law enforcement gets to keep any money the find and can connect to any drug.

Last Drug companies donate large sums of cash to law makers overtly and my guess is covertly.

No surprise here.

What's funny id Obama's people have sold what now turns out to be close 3,00 assault guns to criminal in Mexico and Honduras, and they want to control your access to guns.

They refuse to do anything about the Border invasion, and people still think this fool is great.

How is any of this justifiable, in my question?

What the hell is going on???

Business as usual. This crap's been going on for decades. I wrote a paper on the development of marijuana law in law school, and I can tell you that as far back as the 1890's there have been reliable studies suggesting that marijuana is, at the very least, largely harmless. And yet we have it classified as a Schedule I controlled substance (which means, among other things, that the government considers the substance unsafe for use even under medical supervision). More recently there has been a significant body of evidence suggesting that marijuana has valid medicinal value (also inconsistent with a Schedule I classification).
Our government has been studiously avoiding basically all valid scientific conclusions on this subject since at least the 1930's; including several studies commissioned by our government. Even the study commissioned by Nixon concluded that marijuana was harmless, in the face of immense pressure to go the other direction. He allegedly threw it in the trash without reading it.

So yeah. Business as usual.

These same people probably think that passing out condoms in high school wont reduce the rate of STDs. Why do Americans keep electing retards into office, and then do nothing as special interests lobby their freedoms away?

If marijuana was good enough for George Washington and other founding fathers, then it's good enough for me. I don't use, but I have no problem with anybody else using it. Hell, even if I did, it's none of my damn business anyways, and it's certainly not the government's damn business either.

"Leonhart has consistently turned down research into the therapeutic and medicinal benefits of marijuana, and has a track record of undermining state law with regard to legal medical marijuana. She has also spoken in favor of the Eighteenth Amendment and suggested a federal ban on production, possession, transportation, sale, and consumption of alcohol. Recently several pro-legalisation agencies have called on President Obama to withdraw his support of Leonhart, including SSDP, MPP, NORML, LEAP, and DPA."

Gotta love high level government idiots.
All it takes is one moron to make it to a high position of government authority, to screw everything up.

You do realize that this whole entire bull**** war on drugs predates Obama and pretty much everybody else holding office in the Federal government, right?

Funnily enough, there's a historical precedent there as well. Virtually every state-level anti-marijuana law, not to mention those of the federal government, was passed due to the propaganda work of one Henry J. Anslinger, who was this country's first drug czar. He linked marijuana to various demonized immigrant groups (e.g. latinos, black jazz musicians) even going so far as to suggest that red China was important marijuana to destroy youth culture in the US; and funded numerous bull**** propaganda films claiming that marijuana was deadly, dangerous, etc. He also had ties to the prohibition movement prior to being appointed drug czar in the 30s. Somewhat ironically, he was later given an award for his work by Kennedy (who's family infamously made their fortune in bootlegging).

Most people know that theres no medical reasons, medicinal weed was an end run by the left to save the heads from jail time...its made a mess of california...

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Why is the DEA!!!!! making that decision? That makes absolutely no sense at all. Like asking foxes to babysit the chickens. Our government is nutz. Really.

When I see idiotic comments like this, I immediately know to no longer take anything said poster offers seriously.

Um - no, it's not?

My point is that Obama's got the Democratic vote locked up... who are the existing medical marijuana smokers going to vote for (assuming they could vote, would vote and aren't too stoned or ditch for munchies and pop instead on Nov 2nd?) a Republican??! He's pandering to the Centrists, Moderates, Liberal Conservatives by floating out the discussion through the DEA mouthpiece. It's good politics....

I think folks are missing a key part:

"lacks accepted safety for use under medical supervision."

This is the main issue, really. The chemicals in marijuana do have medical use, but medical marijuana is not sufficiently controlled to be good for medical use. There's no way to control the dosage or purity, which makes proper study, supervision, and monitoring difficult.

Smoking a blunt has no acceptable medical use. The chemicals in marijuana can be helpful.

There's a reason you take aspirin in a pill instead of chewing on willow bark. It's refined and controlled, you know the dosage and purity. Yes, this means big scary pharmaceutical companies get involved and it gets more expensive.

... which is essentially a direct consequence of the government's policy with regards to pot.

Kind of hard to control it sufficiently to satisfy the DEA when it's the DEA busting people who are engaging in activity that is entirely legal under state law.

So, do states that currently have legal for medicinal purposes laws on the books have to shut down, then?

And let's not forget, with that regulation of dosage and purity, the government takes her bite... and would enjoy the big scary pharma companies involvement, which would ensure government getting it's piece of the pot pie.

And the US continues yet another out dated, draconian practice thats both ineffective and costly.

What else is new?

The potheads will be breaking out in a rash now.
