This is why people should carry guns, especially women. Against a man or a mob they are at an extreme disadvantage, and being able to wield a gun can save their lives, save themselves from being raped, beaten into submission and the like.

Shaina Perry remembers the punch to her face, blood streaming from a cut over her eye, her backpack with her asthma inhaler, debit card and cellphone stolen, and then the laughter.

"They just said 'Oh, white girl bleeds a lot,' " said Perry, 22, who was attacked at Kilbourn Reservoir Park over the Fourth of July weekend.

Though Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn noted Tuesday that crime is colorblind, he called the Sunday night looting of a convenience store near the park and beatings of a group of people who had gone to the park disturbing, outrageous and barbaric.

Perry was among several who were injured by a mob they said beat and robbed them and threw full beer bottles while making racial taunts. The injured people were white; the attackers were African-American, witnesses said.

Store video of the BP station at E. North Ave. and N. Humboldt Blvd. shows the business being ransacked.

Not far away, 20 to 25 friends from Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood had gathered at the park shortly before midnight to watch some fireworks set off by a neighbor...

At some point the group of friends and the group of youths intersected; those interviewed said the attack appeared to be unprovoked...

Minutes later Bublitz saw a male friend hit in the temple and fall down. Her fiancé told her to run to safety. James Zajackowski, 28, said things suddenly turned chaotic.

"Within 30 seconds to a minute, bottles were flying and people started getting punched. I was in shock....I was on the ground, people were trying to get into my pockets...

Emily Mowrer... saw her friends beaten and punched and full beer bottles thrown at them... She called 911 on her cellphone.

"I saw some of my friends on the ground getting beat pretty severely... Some people had their wallets stolen... it seemed like an attack. Like they weren't after anything - just violence."

"I heard laughing as they were beating everybody up. They were eating chips like it was a picnic... All I remember is seeing bright lights (after the punch), then my backpack was gone and blood was spurting out of my head."

"Clearly we had mob-like behavior in the incidents involving the robberies at Reservoir Park as well as the ransacking of the BP station. . . . Certainly we had elements of mob-like behavior that challenged us on July 3," Flynn said.

"About 20 of us stayed to give statements and make sure everyone was accounted for. The police wouldn't listen to us, they wouldn't take our names or statements. They told us to leave. It was completely infuriating," Bublitz said.

Reading this, I could bite through steel.

If one or several of the goons had a bullet lodged in their flesh, they'd have evidence. Perhaps next time.

.

I've been seeing a lot of similar reports this past month, one or two reported cases of mob crimes a week. A new trend or a case of media covering stories largely ignored before?

One has to wonder if these would continue to be ignored in the MSM if the races were reversed?

I can tell you that it is this kind of thing that can spark a race war, and all out mayhem. Watch what happens when the welfare is scaled back, and the entitlements go away. Thinnk these punks will sit still?

I'm armed, and my wife is also armed now (Got her conceal carry two weeks ago yay) so we're ready if this **** comes to my neck of the woods.

First, this is being reported on extensively so your whining doesn't even make sense.

Second, the particular characteristics of this crime are surprising (a mob robbery/assault), but it's not surprising in the least that blacks would attack and rob people in one of the most segregated cities in the country. Blacks in Milwaukee are segregated mostly to the north/west side in the lowest income sections of the city. Their schools are abysmal. Public transportation is terrible and its budget is continually being cut. Unemployment in these neighborhoods is at unbelievable levels because of deindustrialization of the city over the past couple of years and the fact that the kind of industries that Milwaukee is currently catering to don't have a material interest in locating to these neighborhoods. The police are incredibly racist and don't treat these neighborhoods with nearly the same level of enforcement as the east or even south side (which can be blatantly evidenced by the last sentence quoted in this article - the cops didn't even care initially about either the perpetrators or the victims).

So with no meaningful paths of development (failed schools, no jobs), nobody to turn to (racist police, parents that are a product of the same failed environment) and with every incentive to not give a ****, how do you think poor underpriviliged abandoned youth are going to turn out? The fact of the matter is that alienation manifests itself in different forms due to the environment in which one develops, and the environment in which these kids grew up in was of complete hopelessness and abandonment. Does this excuse the crime? Of course not. If I was there with a gun I would've killed them in self defense just as you would have. But that doesn't change the fact that your Manichean (and probably Christian) concept of how people develop consciously is completely ahistorical and unrealistic. If you want to solve these problems you have to realize why they happen, and your whining does nothing but mask the issue. Now I know you're going to say I'm dismissing their responsibility, or perhaps even implicitly condoning the crime, but that's nothing more than pompous windbaggery on your part.

Third, maybe if you were smart enough you'd realize that arguing that this isn't a race-based issue (which of course would also be incorrect) would do more to support your fight against PCness (which is a direct result of racialization). Instead, you chose to go the other way, arguing not from an academically anti-PC perspective but instead from a racist one yourself. You've exposed your anti-PC agenda to be one of reactionary racism and not of a progressive fight against entrenched racialization through political correctness by arguing that it's of particular importance that the perpetrators were black (of what importance can be easily deduced by the implications of your post).

You think that these kids committed these crimes because they were on welfare, or because their parents were on welfare? How does that make any sense? What does welfare have to do with this?

From this single post I can read between the lines as to what you really want to say, but can't because of our - ahem - "PC" culture. You want to say that these black people are leeches on the system and that once they stop being able to leech off the system then the black people are going to rise up, and that you as a non-black will have to defend yourself against the hordes by shooting these "black punks". It's both a blessing and a curse that your racism has been driven underground by our PC culture, but also explains your hatred of the fact that it's no longer socially acceptable to spew such vileness openly without repercussion.

For further elucidation, Reservoir Park is at the top of Brewer's Hill and offers one of the best views of the city, especially at night. It sits between Riverwest and a economically downtrodden neighborhood. Riverwest over the years has been pretty gentrified by college students (mostly UW-Milwaukee and MATC) looking for cheap housing close to school and the bars. It's still pretty cheap but prices have actually been rising over the years, even with the economic downturn. Culturally it's still somewhat of a mix, as gentrification has not become too stratified and there has been a lot of commingling between the new and old residents, between different income levels, mostly due to the proximity of Riverwest to low-income neighborhoods and its history as one itself. Saying that this happened in Reservoir Park is not surprising, though somewhat of an enigma as Riverwest is generally viewed as a good neighborhood and even safe, though every once in a while people get robbed or shot.

Probably not. A group of white people were beaten while laughing and racial slurs were being uttered, yet it's a "color-blind" attack. I ain't one for hate crime legislation, but if we have it we should stick to it. Furthermore, the police seemingly not wanting to do their jobs and taken names and statements as suggested by the last sentence seems a bit off too.

I have never been able to figure out why mobs do as they do.

When I was 17 a friend and I were jumped by 9 guys at a neighboring high school during a Faculty Basketball game, my friend and I came away without a scratch and several of those who jumped us got hurt really badly and were all charged with assault.

I thought we were going to die but because my Dad taught me self defense and my friend Tom was a lot tougher than he looked/ It worked out okay.

We were never in another fight because word got around and we were already know for our Football playing Tom was a fullback and I was a middle linebacker and champion wrestler.

About 10 years ago I started carrying concealed weapon which thank God I have never needed, but I recommend that women and people with health issues get a permit and and carry a gun and don't be afraid to use it if need be.

I have health issues and would not hesitate to fire on a mob or others who threaten me.

I always carry a “persuader”.

Just another pompous as*h**e of a post … use to further “his views” and nothing else.

You are assuming they came from those neighborhoods, or from failed schools, or are unemployed, or that they parents are poor, with absolutely no facts to back your statement up. … I could make the argument that they all came from well to do families .. from good neighborhoods and are sent to private schools .. that is just as truthful of a statement as yours is. Your assertion that being poor .. or lacking of education as an excuse for the very basic concept of being able to teach children right from wrong .. is just plain stupid.

It's post like this that sicken me, it does nothing but enable … giving a list of reasons for unreasonable crimes. It doesn't matter if you are rich, middle class, or poor.... it doesn't matter what the color of your skin is, wrong is wrong … making excuses does nothing to help that.

I personally know many black people that by anyones standards are poor, that are appalled by such actions and make no excuses for such actions, and imo only an idiot would. What you have just done is to insult every poor under educated person living in America that lives within our laws, lives with dignity and honors their family name by making do with what little they have.
