Pot and driving:

Pot and driving: Law enforcers struggle to define impairment level

Good article. I posted just the first 3 paragraphs but you should definitly read the whole thing.

“Marijuana is a significant and important contributing factor in a growing number of fatal accidents,” said Gil Kerlikowske, director of national drug control policy in the White House and former Seattle police chief. “There is no question, not only from the data but from what I have heard in my career as a law enforcement officer.”
Yup, no matter what they say, pot is safe.....perfectly safe.

Therein lies the problem, Dan. Establishing if someone is high when something happens. Not easy like with alcohol. Unintended consequences here. Before pot is generally legal all over just like alcohol (if our gov't's bizarre azz ties to Mexico ever allow that) they need to set some standard of measuring intoxication.

As for Sawyer-- good to hear a pot smoker admit it messes you up, and you know not to drive high. But, just like drunks, some will not. Stinks that we need laws to control people that won't control themselves, but it seems we do.

They draw your blood and see how much stuff you have in your system. They are saying if you smoked weed within the last 4-5 days you can still get a DUI.

LOL!! You guys are funny. But, in reality, NOTHING mind altering is safe to drive under the influence of. Potheads need to go down just like drunks.

But we do. I can personally attest to that. I am on probation for DWI. Probation ends on 2 September. At that time, I am going to enjoy my first beer in two and a half years, and you can bet your ass I won't be driving either. LOL.

Strawman Dan, got another?

That ain't no strawman. Statistics already show the horrible trail of death and destruction caused by alcohol-related accidents. Got another?

We have medication that can deliver THC outside from smoking marijuana. As i said, we wouldn't put a blood pressure medication or asthma medication in a cigarette to be inhaled along with harmful chemicals and carcinogens.

I acknowledge the benefits of THC, but I think it's medically unnecessary to expose a patient ti harmful chemicals and carcinogens in the delivery of the drug. I made reference to dronabinol. This is a medication that delivers THC. Marijuana is not necessary.

I found this on the net:
Last week I ordered 60 -10mg- Marinol (Dronabinol) tablets from
advancedpainclinic.com Total cost was only $420 and this is for a
months supply.
I received them in 48 hours and everything was fine, no problems. No
medical records are required all you have to do is fill in a survey
every month as
part of the medical trials. I used to use Hydro and Nortab but this
seems to work much better.

Only $420/month, $5880/year? And from a non-prescription source. Is this what you had in mind?

Then let's have the mods change the title to alcohol, and talk about that.

Feel free to ask them, but the comparison of alcohol to weed is completely germane to this discussion. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to take a look at the prohibition era and realize that we have prohibition now, only with a different substance. Also, statistics have borne out the fact that many more people die in alcohol related accidents than in those with people who are under the influence of marijuana. Still, that does not excuse people for driving under the influence of weed. They should be punished, just as if they were drunk on alcohol. However, the argument against the legalization of marijuana is a dishonest one if it does not include banning alcohol again, just like they did in the Roaring Twenties. I am in favor of legalizing marijuana and putting the exact same restrictions on it that exist at the present time with alcohol.

Afterthought - As George Carlin once said, there is actually one difference between marijuana and alcohol - With marijuana, you don't end up puking on your shoes. LOL.

Any police officer will tell you marijuana is no better than alcohol behind the wheel...most weed smokers are cross addicts...its all made up BS about how wonderful weed is

Aside from that there is no tolerance with weed, you smoke it your high period. There is no inbetweens no levels...With alcohol you can drink one or two drinks and not be impaired and there are levels of impairment depending on how much you drink....as I said there is no tolerance with weed you smoke it your high period

Wow. Who did the tests that resulted in this new information? It overturns everything that has been done before. Especially the nonlinearity with getting high with weed. I want to read the tests!

Can marijuana turn your tongue green

The guy was found to have marijuana and 'other drugs' in his system. Was he nodding off because the other drug was heroin? They don't say.

Someone on the first page of this thread said that "There is no tolerance for smoking marijuana". This is bunk. Every drug known to man comes with the tolerance that grows as the person takes the drug more and more. Marijuana is not exempt from this fact.

THC stays in your system for ~33 days. Take one toke (must inhale) and stay away from your car for a month. That seems fair.

We won't have this problem in Texas. Gov. Perry doesn't want the government to micro-manage the citizenry. That's why we can text while we're driving. Cool huh?

They may do that, but they're wrong. If they were correct, there would be plenty more DUI's and fatal accidents with only marijuana being present. As of now those are few and far between.

I would love to know how the hell you came to this conclusion, or who pounded it into your brain. It's fairly obvious you have either had very limited exposure to marijuana, or you've never touched the stuff.

I can go take a hit right now, and be perfectly fine. If I take 4-5 more hits, I'll be high. 5 more hits after that, and I'll probably be stoned.

Is it logical to wedge asthma inhalants in cigarettes to deliver the drug by smoking and carying along with it carcinogens? If a doctor thinks THC is beneficial we have dronabinol. No need to inhalte marijuana as a form of treatment.

Pharmaceutical THC isn't the same. You don't have to smoke marijuana either. You can ingest it or vaporize it.

As to your second sentence, is this supposed to be a jab against pro-life people?

No, it is not a jab at pro-life people. (All people are pro-life)

It is a jab at hospitals who refuse to do certain medical procedures because of a book that doesn't lend itself to science and medicine. A tubal ligation has nothing to do with the abortion issue.

As I've said though. We have the active THC molecule in pill form as dronabinol. It's medically unnecessary to legalize marijuana. And it's medically illogical to approve of a method of delivery that includes bringing into the body carcinogens and other harmful chemicals. I'm not arguing that MJ has no medical benefits. I'm arguing that MJ is unnecessary and we have better alternatives.

Patients say it doesn't work as well. Of course, I'm sure the pharmaceutical company and the sales rep pushing Dronabinol will say differently.

I've also read that eating vegetables is a better way to get vitamins than running to the vitamin store.

Actually it is.

Its quite possible that the (normally) daily user is affected even after a couple of days of not smoking pot.

I wondered about this. It seems I would have seen a green tongue by now. But outside of popsicle and lollipop exploits, I have not.

How is it that a professional, someone who does this sort of thing for a living can be soooo wrong?

Which is more logical? Your scenario? Or the scenario from someone who is considered an expert witness about the effects of pot? (and no, that someone is not me...I quoted the person in that post you quoted from)

Heavy MJ use could also include eating it. Doing so will turn your tongue green.

It's not about logic imho--it's about observation and evidence. To me, observation rather than deduction is how you determine the truth of that. ymmv

But, logically, if it's possible that the (normally) daily user is affected then it is also possible that the (normally) daily user is not affected. Otherwise, the sentence would be something different than "it's possible".

I am not saying that you're wrong, but I don't know of any other herb that does so. Usually herbs, especially fibrous plant matter, tends to cleanse the mouth.
So, if you could provide some 3rd party evidence, I would appreciate you furthering my education.

Hard to find something to this effect. Pretty much everything that comes up about pot in google is about smoking it. Which, yeah, doesn't turn tongues green. ;) But here is another article that has a suspect with a green tougne because he ate it. (he admitted to eating it to hide evidence)

Green Tongue Points to Pot

The man was chewing on something that he insisted was gum, but the officer kept smelling fresh marijuana coming from him, reports said. The officer asked him to open his mouth. His tongue was light green with small green specks on it.

The man admitted it was a small amount of marijuana, according to the police report. There was also a scale in the car, which the man said did not belong to him.
