Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds over

Re: Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds o

This is just two sides that are unwilling to compromise. Both are in the wrong.

Re: Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds o

Yeah! It's those damn unions! I mean, it were them there damned unions what caused the financial crises which sucked trillions of dollars out of the US economy even as corporations saw record profits and executive pay skyrocketed! It were also them there damned unions what forced us into multiple military conflicts costing us trillions of dollars in direct cost and trillions more in "hidden" costs like interest on the debt and caring for wounded vets! It were also them damned unions what caused them there Republicans to cut taxes for the uber-wealthy during a time of "war"!

It were the damnable unions!

Whew! Pass me some of that Kool-Aid because after that tirade, I'm gettin' a might bit thirsty...
Do you think the states were waging wars? I do not.
Do you thing public sector unions and the democrat party were not bleeding the taxpayers dry for the unions and the democrats benefit? If you don't see this you are a democrat.
What do corporations have to do with any of this? The correct answer is nothing. Any other answer means you are a democrat.

No. One side, the Republican side, is right. The other side, with the public sector unions and their democrat allies are wrong. They must be stopped. The public sector unions must be destroyed. And the democrats need to be tossed out of power.

The truth is that the state government is split between Democracts and Republicans having control over different areas of the government. You may agree with a parties platform, but the two parties will have to compromise. The failure to compromise is what's wrong, not so much the platforms.

I am fine with a compromise as long as it ends public sector unions, raises now taxes and puts in significant cuts in government spending.

That's essentially the Republican platform though. Compromise means that you get some and you lose some. They shouldn't expect to receive everything they want when there is a split government.

Right now, the lack of the spirit of compromise is more harmful to the nation than than any of the popular political belief systems. Paralysis, at a time when there is a lot of bad stuff going on is the last thing we need. With political beliefs, something may get done to fix it imperfectly, but at least something gets done.

5 billion dollar deficit. The need to cut taxes and regulations if they want to grow themselves out of this.

And the other side believes that taxes should be raised to combat the deficit. It's a split government. Democracy has appointed two different parties to be the leaders of this state government in two different branches. Compromises must be made by both sides.

This is the problem when someone convinces themselves that only their ideas are valid. Compromise becomes impossible, even if it is necessary because of the sheer weight of populations who see things differently and the pragmatic reality that creates.

This is exactly right. And at the end of the day you have the pragmatic partisans pointing fingers at each other in blame over the fact that something hasn't been passed. I think it stems from a lack of respect for the other side's opinions because it's essentially "Your side is at fault because my side is 100% right and your side isn't willing to do as you're told and just vote as we say!!11!!one!"

I don't think you really get compromise.

LOL. Maybe not. But I hope the Republicans get it the same way I do.

In my town we just let a dozen people go. We could not afford them so they got their pink slips. Such is the way it ought to go in the real world.

Re: Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds o

And the fact that THEY HAVE A REASON is reason enough that it's wrong.

Yup. The US is one of the very few countries is the entire world to impose dual-taxation, and I agree it's wrong. Taxes are collected from people who use things that the government pays for. Taxing someone who doesn't even live in the country is absurd.

This is the point. The obvious compromise is a combined approach of spending cuts and raising taxes. And this is what Dayton proposed. He was willing to compromise all the way up to only raising taxes on the top 1%.

The Republicans would not accept anything but a 100% spending cuts budget. They were the ones who would not compromise.

Its "divide and conquer".

Oldest trick in the book.

The real answer is to cut government spending by 5 billion dollars. The real answer is to eliminate the regulations that drive out businesses.
No tax increases. Not now. Not ever. They feed the beast in the short term and deepen the problem in the longer term.

Re: Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds o

Do you have any idea what infrastructure alone costs? No private entity is willing to take that on, nor should they - they'd do a terrible job. That's why government always does it, no matter where you go. Modern infrastructures cost more. The population is increasing. We're going to need more.

How do you propose to pay for that with stagnant tax rates? Oh wait, you don't care, as long as you stay on message. You're fine with your country crumbling. And people like you are why we got into a situation like what happened in MN a few years ago when the 35W collapsed and killed 6 people.

If it is important than do it. But do it within your means. Prioritize. When you reach the cut line then everyone and everything below the line goes. No exceptions. No excuses.

Stagnant tax rates? LOL. So if the tax rates are not always going up your utopia won't happen? Cryin' shame. Really.

If you want a robust economy then cur tax rates. Make is easy for businesses to get started. Reduce regulations. And cut government spending.

Wow! what a load of manure. That must have been what the one term Marxist president meant by shovel ready jobs.

Are you an adult? Do you ever make adult decisions? Do you ever have to prioritize? Or do you spend like a drunken democrat?

It is people like me who have to come behind you to clean up your messes. And this one, nationwide is huge. I, for one, do not think we are going to make it.

No. But to say "let's just cut stuff until the state can't function" is insane. People have to live. People have to be able to get to work without wondering if they're about to plummet into the river.

And that is basically all your plan is. You are the problem.

Like many liberals you just cannot bear the thought of the government not doing something. Even when the people cannot afford it. I cannot help that you have not yet become an adult. Life's experiences combined with time may help.

Yes, those poor people making over $1000000 a year just can't afford a tiny tax hike. We should start a charity for them.

Did you read anything about this before you interjected your absurd opinion into it?

Can you explain the moral premise behind you having a greater claim to the wealth they generate through their efforts than they do?
Because it seems very clear that you are exactly like all of the other greedy, envious people, who cannot wait for someone else to work as a slave to the state.

How do people become so twisted and so evil?

Re: Minn. braces for shutdown at midnight; Democratic gov and GOP lawmakers at odds o

Me? Has nothing to do with me. Has to do with the fact that we pay taxes because we are collectively purchasing things we use, like infrastructure. The rich use a lot more of that than the poor. How do you think people get rich? They have to have access to resources, ways to get around this huge country, an infrastructure for carrying their ads, etc. They use more of that stuff. A lot more. It is not unreasonable to ask them to pay a bit more.

You're being beyond paranoid and your assertion is ridiculous. I sure as hell don't want your money, if it will turn me into someone like you. But pay for what you use.

And they already pay tons more taxes than anyone else. They likely pay for what you use.
