So Obama had a press conference on taxes and the economy today. Obama mentioned as one example, an example obviously used to bait the Republicans and see how they would respond, getting rid of a corporate jet tax break. By a lot of estimates, it equals to around a paltry 2-3 billion dollars. However, if you consider a lot of the things Republicans want to cut and of course are supposed to be much more fiscally conservative, it can add up to quite a bit if you take away several dozen goofy tax breaks that really in the end benefit an incredibly small few people let alone private businesses. So you would think, "Man the Republicans would have to at least say hey that sounds fair, lets talk about getting rid of this silly stuff." That wasn't their response at all. Instead, according to Eric Cantor's office they refused any kind of "tax increases" and added that and get this, "2 billion really isn't that much anyways." lol o rly?

So there you have it folks. I am 100% done listening to anything a mainstream Republican has to say when they can't even agree that an incredibly small fix to the tax code shouldn't be done.

Obama was just sighting an example that is easy for people to understand. The republicans can‘t start because there are so many like this. And, true believers follow the book and are absolutists. But, keep listening so you can do a bit of research and be able to give answers and explanations.

You do realize that the corporate jet tax break you refer to was passed without a single House Republican voting for it and was signed into law by Obama himself don’t you?

Didn't read the whole article so I can't verify that that's what Obama was referring to but...

Not really sure what your point is either way. That's when the economy was in an emergency state and we were trying to pump money and tax breaks into it in any way possible. Now we're dealing with our debt problem and Obama is proving that he's even willing to cut programs he has approved of in the past. Republicans are proving that they will do the opposite of whatever Obama is doing. They opposed it back then and support it now, is what you're saying?

Very good, and now that Obama wants to do away with it, why not just be like ok?

Well, the irony in this is that it was a part of the stimulus bill and was put in there by Democrats to help create jobs.

I guess Obama doesn’t care about those jobs anymore.

I'm sure he certainly does as the economy is stable enough that the foundation can't crumble, let's build the rest of the house. I also question that this is something the Democrats cooked up 2 years ago and no so much an extension of something that has been there since 2001 as the article suggest.

Republicans told us tax breaks would create jobs...
So I guess it's considered a successful program now if we don't want to get rid of it?

From the article GPS_Flex linked to:

Companies will have to place orders by the end of 2009, and those planes will need to be delivered by the end of 2010 to take advantage of the tax benefit.

So, unless this tax break was extended or there's a similar tax break pertaining to the purchase (or use) of corporate jets, the tax break should have expired in 2009 anyway.

So Obama calls people who make 250G a year or more "private jet" people. Lets analyize this.

The cheapest "private jet" made today:

That jet costs 2.65 million dollars and holds a grand total of 4-5 people.

The "private jet" Obama uses:

And he doesn't use 1, he uses 2. And uses them on the taxpayer dime.

I think its about time for Obama to shut the **** up.

I didn't even see that part. Fact of the matter is there are quite a few tax havens, loopholes, etc inside and outside the US that have been caused by all sides of the political spectrum that need plugged up. Eric Cantor saying 3 billion isn't ****, is seriously pretty silly. If there is 3 billion to be had then hell have it.

Are you referring to the stimulus when you say “program”?

You might be the only person in America who thinks the economy is stable enough to start shedding jobs.

To get a stimulus bill passed Obama had to agree to Republican desires for stimulus. "This is exactly the type of financial incentive that should be included in a stimulus bill," said Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan., in an interview. His state lost at least 6,900 jobs at Cessna and Hawker Beechcraft, both based in Wichita.

You do realize that the Bush tax cuts became the Obama tax cuts when he signed them into law right?

I don't believe once he specifically said any income group just the tax incentive in general should go.

Lol how is getting rid of this tax incentive going to shed jobs?

You do realize that the Bush tax cuts became the Obama tax cuts when he signed them into law right?

You also know then that Obama did that as part of compromise (I can give you the definition seems very few know what that is anymore) and said when the time was right they would revisit the 250k+ tax cuts?

Lol how is getting rid of this tax incentive going to shed jobs?

If it was going to “create or save jobs” as a part of the stimulus package it is only reasonable to assume that it will stop saving or creating those jobs when it is disposed of right?

I don't know if this tax break was extended. It is very easy to add an extension to any bill. Note, again it appears that this tax break was pushed for by a Republican. If I was in Obama's position I would have accepted it to get the rest of my stimulus package passed.

More pandering to the "I envy the rich" crowd.

This will kill the private jet industry just like this pandering killed the yacht industry in the early 90's.

And for what? To punish those evil rich people.

Actually he said he would let them expire and would campaign on it in 2012.

I’m not a republican though and I think taxes will need to be raised and the tax code simplified as a part of any viable debt reduction plan.

I don’t think taxes need to be raised as a part of the debt limit increase vote however and I want to pull my hair out when I hear Obama trying to make increases in spending a part of the plan.

Note, again it appears that this tax break was pushed for by a Republican. So contact Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan about the jobs he saved with his tax break. If I was in Obama's position I would have accepted Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan tax break to get the rest of my stimulus package passed.

What? By the stats I've seen I'm rich. I don't understand your post.

Care to elaborate?
