Druggies listen up this is serious and sounds a lot worse than the H1N1 pandemic that wasn't.

As I read the story I am amazed at some of the ingredients used to make this crap, a mix of codeine, gasoline, paint thinner, iodine, hydrochloric acid and red phosphorous.

My God is this a drug or a bomb.

No wonder it can rot your skin off.

DEA Now Monitoring Krokodil, a Deadly Morphine Derivative - FoxNews.com
EXCLUSIVE: A new designer drug called krokodil -- a derivative of morphine that can turn an addict's skin greenish, scaly and cause it to rot away -- is being eyed by officials at the Drug Enforcement Administration, FoxNews.com has learned.

"We're looking at it overseas, but we have not seen it yet in the U.S.," DEA spokesman Rusty Payne told FoxNews.com. "But we would not be surprised when that day comes."

Thus far, users of krokodil -- or desomorphine -- have only been found in large numbers in Russia, where 65 million doses of the opiate have been seized during the first three months of this year alone, Russia's Federal Drug Control Service told Time.

Any drug called "krokodil" that just makes you go to sleep is a disappointment. There ought to be some kind of truth in advertising law to cover this stuff. Drugs named after things that can eat people should turn you into a goddamned honky-tonk superman, not put you to sleep. That just ain't right.

Designer drugs are just the latest thing that furthers natural selection. We humans have wiped out most of our predators, so we need something to keep the race moving forward.

I'm thinking something is because zimmer posted a thread about Cocaine cut with the veterinary drug levamisole could be the culprit in a flurry of flesh-eating disease in New York and Los Angeles.

Totally different stories about a different kind of designer Drug and they both eat flesh.

That is one hell of a coincidence, and I am wondering what is going on and is it at all possible these are terror related in some weird way.

It sounds like what our government did back during prohibition. They forced Johnson & Johnson to put a poison in their floor products that were being used to make "Jake", a home distillery alcoholic drink. The poison would make you lose the ability to use your legs. Quite sad really. The well-heeled were getting the good Canadian whiskey being delivered by the Kennedys and the Bushes. The poor folk were losing the use of their legs.

Scary. I'm so glad my kids are grown and none of us use drugs. The composition of this one really does sound like someone is trying to kill people.

I'm confused. Are you saying during prohibition poor people were drinking floor cleaner?

The name sounds appropriate - Croak - o - dil.

Not much has changed. During our current prohibition people are using GHB which one of the most common methods of synthesizing it would be by combining floor stripper with drain cleaner.

on topic: I read this article earlier this morning, reading the whole article dampens the shock value of the headline and assuages most concerns over risk of this becoming some new epidemic in the US.

From the article:
Thus far, users of krokodil -- or desomorphine -- have only been found in large numbers in Russia...

...Officials at the Washington-based National Institute on Drug Abuse told FoxNews.com that they had not heard of the drug prior to Tuesday's inquiry by FoxNews.com ...

...Dr. Lewis Nelson, a medical toxicologist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, said he doubts krokodil will reach the United States due to the availability of other cheap, powerful drugs such as black tar heroin and Oxycontin.

This seems to be quite a non concern presently for the US, and it is likely to remain so in the future - in essence rather boring news "DEA monitoring some obscure drug that is of virtually no threat to the US at present, and probably will not be in the foreseeable future and will remain in obscurity (well if we had not ran this non story it would have remained obscure)". This reminds me of another article I read a couple weeks ago of some previously virtually unknown cocaine derivative (Oxi) that has been used since the 80's in the Amazon areas of Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia that suddenly someone caught wind of and suddenly ran off the presses to report on the dangers of.

I cannot find the original article I read regarding Oxi, but here is another with a significantly more benign headline than what had caught my eye originally:
Oxi addiction a growing problem in South America | TG Daily

at the bottom of that link it says "[Via The Guardian]" although it is not to found there anymore, not sure if that is where I read it originally or not though.

That video was THE most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I am going to show it to my young adult kids. OMG... that takes addiction to a whole new level...

It's actually quite true.

Most/all things with alcohol in them, in the U.S, not meant for consumption, has to be denatured.
They add wood alcohol or something like that, **** can make you go blind or kill you.

It's required by law to boot.

Well I know they have alcohol in products. I'm just confused as to why "poor people" would drink floor cleaner just because it has alcohol in it, and that's somehow the fault of prohibition. To me, its the fault of being a dumbass, and if you choose to drink floor cleaner you deserve what you get.

Cheap alcohol substitute, a lot of homeless people drink it.

It is true that they are dumb for drinking it, but then again a lot of people don't understand that it's denatured.

Oh please let it be as plentiful as crack and as lethal as a heroin hit from the dems.

A skid row wino shows up to a wine tasting convention. He tastes a wine, then proclaims "Aqua Velva, 2010".

Here are some of the more popular slogans against drugs, but the way to combat drugs is with honesty, no slogans or propaganda or Reefer Madness type lies in films

Just say no
I'm too good for drugs
Drug free is the way to be
Don't choose the booze
If you choose the booze, you lose
What's your anti-drug?
Stay alive. Don't drink and drive
Shoot for the stars not your arms
Smoking the dope won't help you cope
Up with hope, down with dope
If you know Jack, you won't smoke Crack
This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs. Any questions?
Drugs are retarded, so don't get started
Say Not to Pot
PCP bad for me
Kiss meth mouth goodbye
Hugs not drugs
I'm above the influence
Pot makes your brain rot, so lets not
Get High on Life, not on Drugs
You don't need Heroin to be a hero
Be aware, don't share
