Ron Paul, Barney Frank team up to legalize marijuana

The sooner we legalize pot, the sooner we can spend even more money chasing down the people who evade the taxes.

That's going to be awesome.

BTW, how many millions of dollars in the rears are the legal pot sellers in California?

As far as I know, they are making plenty of money. And if it were fully legal and taxed they'd see increased tax revenue in the millions, along with saving money in the millions. The whole nation it'd also be in the billions.

Illegal cigarette traffickers are dodging billions in taxes and we have deployed as much--if not more--law enforcement to combat them.

Legalizing pot isn't going to some kind of economic miracle.

Politics makes strange bedfellows...... Wait! Ron Paul isn't gay. LOL.

we could call it the libertarian and the Lisper ticket?

other than the billions we waste on enforcing those silly laws?

But it sure wouldn't ****ing hurt... By the way while we're on the subject, do you have any credible evidence that the government devotes more resources to tackling illegal cigarettes then narcotics...

Or is this yet another edition of "**** I make up to bolster my argument starring APDST"

I have no problem with making pot legal. However will pot heads stop acting like it means anything? you dont suddenly come up with all these brilliant ideas when your stoned. No more 40 year old comedians boasting about smoking it, greeted with a cheer from morons.

Anyone that thinks that there's no illegal drug, nor alcohol trade, is living in a fantasy.

ATF is the most underfunded and understaffed agency in our government arsenal. Most of ATF's funding and resources go to fighting firearms, the illegal cigarette trafficking, eg, bringing cigarettes across state lines where taxes on them are higher so people would go to the smugglers, is practically given nothing. The DEA though has plenty of resources to do its bull****.

It's really stupid IMO and if we had a standardized tax on cigarettes across the nation we wouldn't have this problem, but whatever.

So, a standardized cigarette tax is going to discourage people from evading cigarette taxes? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

Well according to an earlier post of yours, pot growers have millions of dollars in their rears, and that would be pretty economically miraculous.

Depending on if they actually pay it and how much it costs the government to go after it.

Yes. Do you even know what cigarette trafficking is?

You really are as bad as they say you are in the basement.

A: that doesn't prove the government uses more recourses to tackle illegal cigarettes then narcotics, which was your assertion.

b: who saidbthere was no drug trade? Did you read my post? Hell... Did you read your own?

I meant, "cigarette trade". The new directive, replace, "drug", with, "cigarette", in that post.

Yes. Do you even know what cigarette trafficking is?

How 'bout you tell me?

You really are as bad as they say you are in the basement.

Well, you gotta consider the source of most of that crap.

I must not as bad as they say; you liked one of my posts a few minutes ago.

I know... I did like one of your posts. I feel dirty.

Basically it's an organized crime thing where they take cigarettes from a state with low taxes on cigarettes and bring them to a state with high cigarette taxes to sell them. I suggest you read up more on google.

Ok, and where did I get it wrong? It's still illegal, right? Organized crime, you say? Oh, wait, cigarettes are legal, so there shouldn't be any organized crime involving cigarettes. Being legal, automatically means that the crime involving cigarettes will go away. Yes?

Yes, it is illegal. What does ATF stand for friend? The T in there is this.

You said that we spend more enforcing that than drugs, which is wrong. No, if it were properly legalized without the tax discrepancies it wouldn't happen.

Illegal narcotics may always be a problem, but you're not looking at the bigger picture champ, I mean if Illegal cigarettes are a problem... and they're a problem up here in Canada to, its natural because Cigarette prices are so high because they're inflated by taxes aimed at curbing people from buying them due to it being a public health risk.

Now, its about cheapness.

But if cigarettes were illegal all together tommorow the illegal cigarette industry would become incredibly lucrative, probably would grow by 400% in a month... but what you do when you legalize something like Marijuana, is not nessecarily completely rid the criminal element, but you do take a considerable amount of money and influence away from criminals, and just give it to consumers to choose.

Aren't you a free market type?

While weed being legalized would be nice, betting against Stupid is always a losing prospect. I don’t think it’ll be legalized until austerity measures are actually on the table and someone frames it as a choice of “let grandma keep her meds” versus “keep harassing pizza delivery drivers.”

Hey look at that! A silver lining to the country going bankrupt!
