That information by itself is irrelevant without knowing a bit more information.

What's the feeling of independents towards the Republican Party? For example, if Independents are 5:1 unfavorable to the Republican Party then it indicates there's actually more independents likely to support a Tea Party type candidate rather than at typical Republican candidate.

What's the general political lean of these independents? Are independent Florida voters typically more liberal than conservative? If so, by what amount.

Finally, what's the likelihood of these individual who have a negative view of the Tea Party to vote for a Republican if its NOT a tea party backed person? What's the likelihood of the individuals with a positive view of the Tea Party to vote for a Republican if its NOT a tea party backed person? If the majority of those unfavorable of the Tea Party wouldn't vote Republican in either instance, then this matters very little. Similarly, if many of those that have a favorable view of the Tea Party are likely to vote 3rd party/Democrat/not vote should a "moderate" republican win while few of the ones unfavorable to the Tea Party are likely to vote Republican regardless, then it could actually suggest things are better than the poll makes it out to seem.

Is this poll a good sign for the Tea Party of Florida? No. But its hardly a devestating thing the OP is attempting to insinuate with what little information is provided

I see where they posted the negatives for the Tea Party, did they even bother finding out what the negatives were for the Dems and the GoP? Looks like a poll done to support a meme to me.

We heard the same **** in 2010, "The TEA PARTY WILL HURT THE GOP!"

But the House... was basically the Tea Party's doing...

To say the house was mostly the tea party's doing is a huge stretch. The house was mostly the doing of poor economy and the fact that the sitting president's party almost always does poorly.

It's was too early in the election season for polls to mean much of anything, even when you would like them to be true.

The Tea Party is saving the GOP from itself.

The people will not put up with big government, big spending Republicanism.

Does it matter which way Independent voters tend to vote? The fact of the matter is according the poll, Independent voters aren't too keen on Tea Party members right now. And if their dislike for them continues and spreads nationwide, the Republican party will have problems. Why? Because the Tea Party comes under the umbrella of the Republican party. Doesn't matter the "mix" of so-called "true political affiliation" that make up the Tea Party. By default, Independents will abandon the Tea Party - and by association, the Republican party - in large numbers if their discontent widens.

Truth is, your Republican candidates cannot win the 2012 Presidency w/o either: a) bringing in a 3rd-party candidate, or b) pulling several Independent voters away from the Democrat party. And if the Tea Party is causing that much of a stir and making potential "swing voters" that much more disgrutled, the Republican party may find itself in big trouble come election time.

Because as we all know, independents WILL vote hard left, but they cannot bring themselves to vote for anyone that might even remotely appear more right then center

Are trying to say the Tea Party is just slightly right of center?

Mr. McV,

Did I say that? No, I did not even though yes, you are correct in that Independents do typically vote Democrat. But nowhere in my post did I make such a connection of Independent voters to the Democrat party. Fact is, Independent voters are "independent" for a reason - they don't want to be boxed in to side with any one particular political party over another. They wish to retain their autonomy. As such, both sides - Democrats and Republicans - covet Independent voters in the hopes of tipping the political scales in their favor. You know that as well as I do. So, let's not make political arguments were there aren't any.

Fact is, the Tea Party along with many of the austerity measures Republicans are putting in place in states they run (either as Conservative Governors or Republican state legislators) are causing problems. If Independent voters view their actions as too obstructionist, too isolationist, too economically stringent they will pull back from Tea Party members and, by default, the Republican party.

hmmmm

And it did lol. It was a given that the GOP would win the house, with or without the Tea Party. But in key races, the Tea Party failed horribly. Nevada, Alaska and so on... high profile Tea Party flops because of wacko candidates. The GOP had a great shot in taking BOTH houses, but failed because... of the Tea Party!

Cost them the Senate. Furthermore, they likely could have gotten the house sans Tea Party.

Indeed. The question of the house was not whether they'd take it or not but their majority margin. The Senate however was always the big gamble.

I'd agree with this. Where it counted for in the Senate, the Republicans paid dearly. If they had ran a moderate in Nevada, Reid would be out of a job. Coons would not have taken Delaware. Bennet likely would have lost in Colorado. That's three right off the top of my head.

Ive been saying this all along...that in florida they have dropped the teaparty like a hot potato....the rich and the very far right are the only ones for the teaparty

Re: GOP poll: Tea party movement could cost Republicans in 2012 Read more: http://ww

Republicans will cost Republicans 2012? The idea that the tea party is actually a party and separate from the republicans is idiotic. The whole tea party is nothing more than a scam to get voters to vote for republicans, because if they were actually an actual party then they would not be republicans nor would they be tea party republicans they would be just the Tea Party.

If republicans are going to prop up McCain,ROmney or some other RINO then I want them to lose. I want them have their asses handed to them in the polls. Because every time some them democrats are evil and republicans are good twits votes for RINO they encourage the republican party to swing even further to the left.

I partially agree here, but I think Pelosi did plenty to help **** the Democrats. That's one reason I can't believe they kept her as their leader. Hard to believe the Dems don't have a single person better than her. Same goes for Reid, maybe a bit less.

Let's see... the country is going to hell, we have an incompetent at the helm, and The Tea party is going to swing the election in favor of Obama and the Socialists, despite Obi's pathetic record? Like they did during the midterms?

OK. If you say so.

I think that was an establishment poll from the RINOs, and the neo-cons meant to stifle the internal struggle in the GOP.

At some point everyone has got to come to the realization that Liberalism carries with it economic disaster and taxes no one needs.

Everyone needs to come together to defeat Obama and put the Liberals out of power in the Senate so that we cant put together a more Citizen friendly Government.
