NBC Apologizes for Omitting 'Under God' From Pledge During U.S. Open Broadcast

I don't see how I can break this down any simpler than I already have, but let me try again to explain:

Congress issues the Pledge of Allegiance in the United States Code (i.e. the wording of the Pledge is a matter of law).

There is only one official Pledge of Allegiance at any given time.

Something that does not conform with the Pledge as written in the contemporary USC is not the Pledge.

Deleting portions of the Pledge that one finds disagreeable means that the words are no longer the genuine Pledge.

Yep I get all that I still find no logic to make one "offended" over them doing it to be more PC, IF thats what they were doing.
I believe in god, I believe in this country, skipping those words in a brodcast to be more PC doesnt "offened" me.

I think its dumb

but I dont see being offended justified because of anything you said. Im not saying I disagree with the basics of what you said I trying to see the logical tie to being offended.

Cant see one that is relevant. My emotion isnt wired in so tight with my logic that it can take it over, 99% of the time logic wins.

It was more dumb to apologize for it, they basically apologized for doing what they thought was right and PC.

So I guess you'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yes, you're right. I said they SHOULD say it as written, not that they should be legally-bound to it.

They did say it as written, just not the rewritten version.

It was during the U.S. open. The real question is why weren't people sleeping. It is GOLF.

I find it offensive and part of secular trolling. NBC can do what they want, but editing out "under God" is directly offensive to some people and really showed what NBC's goals are.

And including "under god" is offensive to some people.

Yes - individuals can't just up and decide to change it - it must be done properly. . . but I say leave it alone.

Actually, the first amendment means we can say it any damn way we please.

Actually, they didn't.

Here's the original according to Wikipedia: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Personally, I feel that the Pledge in its current form violates the first amendment's establishment clause. But you are indeed correct, individuals do not decide these things, and it is highly disrespectful to mutilate the proper Pledge as NBC has done here.

I think this would be a stretch, unless people where mandated into saying it. Have not put alot of thought into it however, so there could be examples otherwise. It's one of those things I don't see as being worth raising a stink about however.

and you whine when some conservatives lump all liberals together?

:rofl:mad:Redress

I wondered who would get that. I almost guessed it would be you.

It was obviously intentional and they only made the insincere apology because of complaints...

Dont know if the apology was insincere but they had no need to do it so you are probably right. I wouldnt apologize if I had no reason too but if i did it most certainly would be insincere.

What'd they apologize for? And what is with people in this country freaking out if their god is not publicly acknowledged at every available turn?

I haven't said the Pledge since I was 8 or so. And I won't again until its' returned to its original state.

There is no religious test to be an American. Adding "under god" is just the work of a bunch of fear-mongers freaking out about communism. It's a relic of paranoia from one of our ugliest and most embarrassing moments in recent history, and they've shoved it into the Pledge of our country.

Maybe they feel the same, Whovian. Lots of people do. And so what? So what if they did intentionally not say it?

To the 90-odd percent of God fearing American's I imagine it means a great deal that they intentionally ommitted it, and to answer Whovian's question, the apology omitted that they ommitted God.. :)

I imagine the guys that wrote the apology from NBC were all high fiving themselves at just how clever they were.. :)

Tim-

Congress should apologize for have butchered the Pledge of Alligiance in the McCarthy era, when they turned "One nation, indivisible" into "One nation, under god" in the first place.

The nation was "indivisible", dammit. "Indivisible" for all of its citizens, not "under god" for just some of them. I've never forgiven the government for turning a pledge of national pride into a religious symbol.

well you'd be wrong because Im in that 90% and it means nothing to me and I tell the other 89.9999999999999% to wake up, relize where they live and to start using some logic and reality. :)

Ah, I see. How very wrong I must have been. Continue on. :)

Hmm interesting to think about I guess and I dont know to what degree you were wrong but you were in fact wrong ;)

It was obvious, intentional, and meant to inflame.

Such cowardice.
