"The language in the pledge is to 'permanently end all taxpayer funding of abortion' (which the Gov. supports) but then goes on to say 'and recipients of federal funds with affiliates that perform or fund abortions' -- which you can see is very over-reaching and would include hospitals across the country."
The results:
Paul 612
Huntsman 382
Bachmann 191
Cain 104
Romney 74
Gingrich 69
Palin 41
Santorum 30
Pawlenty 18
Johnson 10
Roemer 9
McCotter 2

He can only get so many people to attend straw polls. It's the flooding of strong supporters who are few but loud. In any other arena they are quickly quieted due to numbers, yet the Paul fans cry foul. Instead they make due with their straw poll victories and proclaim their victory before becoming embittered.

Paul wins straw poll, has no chance in real poll. Nothing new from 4 years ago. Huntsman doing so well is the real story here.

Didn't this happen last time?

Paul has no chance.

Straw polls are entertaining but often largely irrelevant events.

I don't see how straw could be an accurate proxy for voting trends, I want to see the methodology! ;)

Congratulations to Paul but I don't think he can beat Obama, and therefore we need to make sure he doesn't try or we are screwed.

Im voting for him no matter what. Ill write him in. There is no one else. I wouldnt vote for any other person on that list.

He's been winning straw polls for a long time, but he still lags in the other polls..

Obama thanks you.

I rather have him than Palin and some of the others as President. But especially Palin. She is in no way competent for that position. I would be somewhat nervous to put her in charge of a company much less a Nation!

I like Ron Paul's position on the Federal Reserve Corporation. He wants an audit. I'd like that. I'd like to know the names of the Federal Reserve Corporation's stockholders and see copies of their interest checks. I'd definitely vote for him if he could get the nomination, but that is probably a pipe dream.

Good GAWD, get off her back, she NOT RUNNING!

Perry is making strong speeches, Romney is front running by being relatively quiet, Herman Cain is a strong advocate of strong free enterprise, and it is early on with Obama looking like he is doing a tail spin toward the earth.

To think that a majority of American voters is going to see Dr. Paul's message of Constitutional principle, and not consider whom he got into bed with the last time around is fooling themselves. Think about it, Paul's most go to interviewer is Alex Jones.....ALEX JONES for Christ sake!

God help us.

I like Paul, I think he's got a better chance this year due to a number of reasons I've detailed elsewhere. That said, he won a **** ton of straw polls in 2008 and that didn't get him within sniffing distance of actually winning. This is next to irrelevant.

That's true because at the appropriate time the news media will begin ignoring the candidates they don't like and focus on the couple from each party that will make the election most interesting or serve their own political interests. We are completely at their mercy when it comes to hearing what candidates have to say.

This is completely excellent news. It really makes my day.

Although media coverage has shortcomings, I do not believe it is accurate to imply that the media has such influence that the candidates are at the media's mercy. It is incumbent on candidates to wage their campaigns in a fashion that is newsworthy. It is imperative that the candidates build support. Down the road, those who fashion themselves into credible contenders will garner greater coverage than those who remain largely uncompetitive.

Despite Governor Romney's building a lead following the recent debate, the field is fragmented. Opportunities exist. Clearly, some candidates have stumbled (Pawlenty and Gingrich). Some have demonstrated little gravitas (Santorum and Cain). Congressman Paul's big risk is that he lacks the capability to transform a vision that enjoys passionate but narrow support into one that contains broad-based appeal. Among other things, unless he develops concrete policy ideas to translate his vision into substance, he is not likely to succeed in that task.

After the We the People Act, I don't think I could ever support Ron Paul. Especially with sodomy laws still on the books in half the states in the country. He argues liberty on one hand, but has no problem letting each state government stick its head in the bedroom if they so desire. In the state in which I currently reside, I would go to prison for 5 years if Ron Paul had his way.

Mitt and Perry are democrats. Plus, some candidates are running as repubs but are there for the dems. Its infiltration like militant muslims are in armed forces. Only there to kill, steal, destroy.
