Opening the handwritten letter from President Obama brought a glimmer of hope to her life as he promised her that things would get better for her and her family.
And despite the fact Destiny Mathis, from Hobart, Indiana, treasured the letter, more than two years later she has no choice but to sell it as she and her three children face eviction from their home.
The 26-year-old was an avid campaigner for Mr Obama in 2008, getting T-shirts made and encouraging people in her neighbourhood to vote.

I wonder if she's regretting her backing of Obama yet?

I wonder if she's regretting her backing of Obama yet?

Maybe she'll get a ton on ebay.

Guess that mortgage check from Obama never showed up.

It'll be interesting to see what she gets for it.

While it's funny to make fun of people getting thrown out of their homes and onto the streets....oh wait.

Yes, because that's what I'm making fun of. You got me Ikari...

Things did get better for her. She could get 11K for that letter. Not bad for something someone gave you.

Sure as hell seems like it in all this retarded political hackery going on. What, her life would have been so much better if McCain were elected? She wouldn't be facing eviction? No, probably be in the same situation. At least she could sell the letter from Obama; doubtful McCain would have sent her one. But it doesn't matter, economy broke and all the government did after it was to make sure their buddies in the banking industry didn't lose their shirts.

And you are obviously poking fun at this woman who was about to be evicted, you can try to spin it any way you want; but it's all here black and white to see. Partisanship is pathetic.

False Objectivity by a charlatan is equally as disgusting.

I'm mocking Obama's letter saying life would get better, things would change for the better... And here she is in such dire straights that she has to sell the letter to keep her home. The situation is awash with irony and it's amusing.

Well apparently the letter gave her a bit of hope for not ending up on the street. Would it be different under McCain? Yes, she wouldn't have had the letter to sell and would be on the street.

thats alot for a piece of butt wipe

Re: Desperate mother-of-three sells handwritten letter from Obama to avoid being evic

sadly neither McCain nor Obama prevented this woman from trying to buy a house she obviously couldn't afford. At least there are still plenty of Obamaphiles around who will pay $$$$$$ for anything with his signature on it.

I don't see the point of this thread, either, besides abstract symbolism...

We'll never know, now will we.

Yep, you're right. John McCain understands what it's like to be one of the little people, struggling, fighting for survival.

Alright, lets get down to the facts of the case shown at hand.

Destiny J Williams, Unmarried Mother of Three.

Her career at the time was a Surgical Technician, the average salary for a person in that field of work is 36k.

We're assuming at the moment that she's living in a two bedroom home, since she mentions the need to move into a three bedroom home. Probably one bedroom for her and her former beau, and one for her two, now three children.

As of 2007 (Reference) the general Cost Per Child (for just a single child) by age 17 was 148k. Divide 148k by Seventeen and you get 8.7k.

8.7k * 3 = 26.1k.

Leaving her only 10k a year for her own clothing, transportation, food, housing, health care, etc etc.

This is of course assuming she was making the average for a Surgical Technician, which I doubt.

Also, it's her fault for having a third child, when you have a child you accept the risks and responsibilities. That includes the risk of a Special Needs child.

That's just plain stupid. Congradulations, this chick failed at math and common sense.

That is not Obama's fault, in fact, had he not sent her that letter, she would not have the chance to extend things as much as she does now.

Now, this is all rather simplified math. I don't have the time or the aptitude to go into specifics, so it's a bit rough. Any mathematician could come in here and go 'no no all wrong' if my aim were perfect accuracy. It's not. Don't bother with that tactic I'll just point to this part of my post.

This is very sad. I'm sure she cherished that letter, and I hope she'll get enough money for it to tide her over until times improve.

As for using her misfortune as a partisian bitch-slap, shame on some of you.

It's so sad to watch someone call Obama "one of us". You really are steeped in the koolaide.

I know, we aren't allowed to do that against Obama... it's just mean. I know, let's start a thread about Palin's kids!

Re: Desperate mother-of-three sells handwritten letter from Obama to avoid being evic

Obama ran a platform of hope and change and it seems he gave this young mother hope and nothing changed.

That has been a theme with Obama,

Say what ever you have to to get to the next lie and if you're caught in a lie come up with another one, even bigger if you have to.

This is a sad story but it's happening all over the Country right now and some of those in trouble are on Food Stamps and Assistance programs because they have a family and have no other choice.

Unless Obama and the Democrats change their mind set of tax spend what we don't have and regulate business out of business we will never see the end to this kind of story.

Maybe it take it getting worse to convince Obama disciples to come to their senses and revolt with the rest of us.

I wish we had a strong forceful Statesman to us logic and sensible ideas to make the needed changes.

I just saw a post that compares McCain's wealth to Obama and asks: "Which one best represents you>"

Well certainly not the "Golfer in Chief."

I have said repeatedly, Obama and wife are spending our tax money on themselves like they were Welfare recipients that won the Lotto.

I don't play golf because it's a elitist sport that costs a fortune to play. I don't go on vacation 5 or 6 times a year on someone Else's credit card.

I didn't like McCain because I have talked him and I was not impressed at all.

-snorts- You misunderstand, I am not an Obamaphile. The man has continuously underperformed. Part of that is due to opposition from Republicans, but equally large parts are due to Weakness of Spirit and flat out being effing Wrong.

Obama is the lesser of two evils. If the Republicans field a sane candidate, I'll vote Republican.

Do you see my stated political leaning and party? I'm an independent. No donkeys under my name.

McCain went effing nuts. I respected him to a degree before his presidential campaign.

I'm not even sure where to begin on what is wrong with this post. Lets see. Hmm.

First: Grammar. That was terrible. How old are you, seven? Look at your post and try again.

Second: Obama changed some things, just not everything he promised to change. This is partial failure, not complete failure. It's not good enough, but it's better than the other option.

Third: The last 'Tax and Spend' Democrat to leave Office left with a Surplus.

Fourth: The removal of regulation upon banks/financial sector and the housing industry are the direct, logical, accepted, known cause for both of the financial meltdowns during Obama's presidency. The deregulations all those businesses happened during Republican Presidencies.

Fifth: Obama has not done well enough at fixing the problems we've found ourselves with. But the problems we have at the moment are not his fault. He is a failure as a Hard-Times Recovery President, not a Cause of the Hard Times.

Sixth: Your last sentence is beyond comprehension. Let alone the realms of logic and sensibility. The very irony of this made it hard for me to post this, I was laughing far too hard.

What would you call him then? One of "those people"?
