Michele Bachmann announces presidential campaign - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann entered the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire Monday night as the only participant who had not announced his or her campaign. No longer: Bachmann announced early in the debate that she had filed paperwork for a 2012 run.

"I filed today my paperwork to seek the office of the presidency of the United States today and I'll very soon be making my formal announcement," she said.

The outspoken, high-energy politician -- the first woman to enter the race -- elaborated in a statement emailed to reporters immediately after those comments.

"Our country needs a leader who understands the hardships that people across America have been facing over the past few years, and who will do what it takes to renew the American dream. We must become a strong and proud America again, and I see clearly a better path to a brighter future," said Bachmann.

Good for her, I like her. I hope she does well.

She won't do well.

She is ALL talking points, if this debate is any basis.

She could do well. Why not.

I can't wait for Bachman in debates. LOL! That woman will say anything with total and complete disregard for facts. I'll be great. She has no chance of course, but why not have some fun?

Very true.

Why are only the most shameful of Minnesota politicians involved in this one? Man...

She thinks global warming is a hoax, wants to teach creationism in schools, supports a constitutional ban on SSM (she even goes as far as to call being gay a "sexual disorder"), and thinks we should consider going nuclear with Iran.

She is insane to the point of delusion, and she was one of the early warning signs of the GOP going off the rails.

Seriously, yeah, I'm a liberal, but I don't mind conservatives. Really. It's just that people like her are not "conservatives." They're insane. Real conservatives are abandoning the GOP like a sinking ship in embarrassment. People like Bachmann are the reason why.

I guess she'll bring entertainment to America at least...

I wonder if she will go on the Daily Show
?

Sounds like I disagree with every thing she believes and stands for BUT: doesn't that mean she represents what more than a handful of people believe?

I wonder how Sarah Palin feels about this news...

Crazy people.

I wonder how Sarah Palin feels about this news...

I said before that I can't see either of them second-chairing the other. Michelle declared first, and last I heard, Sarah thought she'd do better from the sidelines. But a week or so later, she said she hadn't decided yet. So who knows.

I'm calling 5% of the popular vote for Bachmann, max.

I guess time will tell. But I have a hard time believing she has a chance. At least I have to think that for my sanity.

At this point, I am beginning to wonder if the conservative party has turned into the radical theocracy party. It's just bizarre to me that someone so extreme is running from one of the main two parties. This is the sort of candidate that, 10 or 20 years ago, we'd expect to see running from some obscure little party that everyone laughs at. How someone like Bachmann became mainstream is just beyond me.

Pat Robertson ran in the late eighties trying to the R nomination.

From this debate alone I've realized the woman annoys the **** out of me.

Ya know, not all of us libs thought Obama was the savior.

Obama isn't even truly liberal. By the standards of everywhere else in the developed world, he's pretty much a moderate - possibly even with a slight right lean.

It's just that McCain was a sell-out. And considering what he had to work with, Obama has done about as much as anyone could hope for. I don't know a ton of people who voted for him, including me, who are 100% happy with everything he's done. But he's done well enough to get my vote again.

Even if that weren't the case, the GOP field is such a joke that it would be funny if it weren't so sad.

So your saying Bachmann doesn't say crazy things?
