Wow... just wow. Over $6.6 billion dollars of hard-earned American taxpayer dollars were most likely stolen in 2003-04, yet few seem to really care. Those that whine about Government overspending should really be irked by this, no?

Reporting from Washington— After the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the George W. Bush administration flooded the conquered country with so much cash to pay for reconstruction and other projects in the first year that a new unit of measurement was born.

Pentagon officials determined that one giant C-130 Hercules cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time.

This month, the Pentagon and the Iraqi government are finally closing the books on the program that handled all those Benjamins. But despite years of audits and investigations, U.S. Defense officials still cannot say what happened to $6.6 billion in cash — enough to run the Los Angeles Unified School District or the Chicago Public Schools for a year, among many other things.

Whoever decided to air-drop cash without keeping track of where it goes should have to pay it back. With interest.

It wasn't stolen, it was handed over by the pallet-load.

I saw this on an episode of NCIS they need to call Gibbs and have his team solve this one too.

Seriously the the whole idea of sending that much money in cash any where is really stupid and to a war zine is crazy.

They will never find out where that money went but I would suggest they check the Bank accounts of everyone who had access, and they will find a lot of unusual transactions.

I'm not surprised at all. In any conflict there are going to be opportunists and these guys just went crazy with US taxpayer money. We need to launch a full-scale investigation in concert with the Iraqi government to try and find out who stole our $$$, if possible.

Words can't begin to describe.................

I remember this. This happened back when us liberals were all like “Bush should be held accountable for upending this pail of **** over our heads,” and the Bush apologists were all “Bush can do no wrong and should never be held accountable for this!” And then it totally went away because the people wanting to hold the Bush admin accountable for the laws he admitting to breaking became equated with the ***tards claiming Obama’s a Kenyan Muslim Socialist.

Yup, those sure were some good times to be a malfeasant public official.

That's probably chump change compared to the over-billing by supply/transportation/security contractors.

its not missing, its right where it was intended to go.. it was "the surge" prototype. the final version included arming our enemies and a larger sum of untraceable cash.

While I agree with this, still it is a farce. Plane loads of money being sent without any plan... that's ridiculous. Especially now, where many programs that are being cut because of budget. I bet that 6 billion would go a long way...

O'Bama lost several trillion, so this ain't nothin'.

A lot of money went unaccounted for in the Bush years. I didn't hear about this specific instance but it doesn't surprise me.

The majority of the money that has not been accounted for belonged to Iraq, administred by the US government

So losing $6 billion is "nothin'" because a much larger amount was also lost. What a ridiculous attitude to have.

I will add this here gem dandy video, it may be old but still seems relevant.

Look no further than the democratic party.
