Alabama governor signs nations toughest immigation law

Legal immigration into this country is a horrifically convoluted and lengthy process. For a poor, unskilled person with no family ties here it is usually impossible.
In my opinion we should have a halt of immigration into this country. We should extend invitations only to those who are healthy, prosperous, and educated. Let's try that approach for a generation and see how it turns out.

Why not issue some standardized tests and export people to mexico instead?

Fair enough.

But can we give the boot to the uneducated, unprosperous, and unhealthy fat people first. You know, clear some space.

How much do they charge to do lawns?

I need help remodeling my house. Might drive to la 7 and pick up some help.
See. It works out well for both of us. Soon you will have all you need. I predict more states will pass similar legislation.

Our uneducated people have nothing to do with illegal immigration. The police do not kick the homeowners off their property and let the trespassers stay.

Give us your tired, your poor, your hungry... Psych!! JK

That appeared on the Statue of Liberty in 1912 and was written by Emma Lazarus in 1883 or so. At the time it was put on the Statue of Liberty the US population was only around 93 million. Today's population is over 300 million. IE it was said in a time when the US could use immigrants and would not be negatively affected by a mass influx of em. And even then that quote and poem was not about illegal immigration.

This repudiates itself, they come here because there is no work there and it's too difficult to get to the US legally.

Bold part: Then why is Mexico's unemployment rate only around 5.60%? (only reason I use mexico is because the largest percentage of illegals in this country are from there) There are an estimated 12 million illegals from Mexico in the US. If even a quarter of those created thier own buisness and employed 5 people each Mexico's unemployment would be less than 5.60%.

Underlined part: Yet people do it all the time.

Edit and side note: Funny thing is that if we didn't have the problem with illegals that we do have then OUR unemployment would be less also.

I think as more and more states pass similar legislation eventually the sanctuary states will have to as well. Its one thing with when 12-20 million illegals are spread across 50 states with those states picking up the tab for illegals and its another thing when most of those 12-20 million illegals are in your state and its the citizens of those sanctuary states having to pay the tab in dealing with illegals. California now pays around 4-5 billion on illegals, I wonder how far that number would go up if all the illegals started fleeing to California? They will eventually be forced to do something about it.

Schwarzenegger backs state services to immigrants(illegal)

There was also the fact there was no welfare, foodstamps, section 8 housing and many other things we have today.

Which is why it was near Ellis Island.

Unenforceable, and unconstitutional?

Seems like a waste of time for a state legislature to pass laws that will all be thrown out... Oh, that's right, it's the Tea Baggers, not real legislatures.

Well, hopefully they'll all be gone by 2012, and states can get back to business.

Why don't they just have the illegals wear armbands and live in ghettos?

Typically they wear bandana's and they do live in ghettos? LOL :)

Just kidding, relax..

Why do you think it is unenforceable?
Why do you think it is unconstitutional?

True. This one won't be.

The majority of the American people? Is that to whom you refer?
I think you will be disappointed. I won't explain why. let's just keep it a surprise for you.

What would we want a poor unskilled person for?

You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

Indeed, this law and others like it are likely to withstand court challenges because rather than targeting illegals, it targets US citizens or legal residents who conspire with them to violate state laws such as creating a false identity, providing false information on official documents, evading state or local taxes, making fraudulent applications for social welfare benefits, etc. The courts will find, imo, that it is very much the business of the state to punish its citizens and legal residents who conspire to violate state laws.

I think it's offset by the macroeconomic shift in productivity garnered by their cheap labor, but then again thats pretty hush hush, you know, admitting we get something out of their work.

nice words, but just words. Now what part of "illegal" don't you understand?

I am *so* impressed. May I have your autograph?

You may be right, yet the same was said about Arizona employer bill. Guess what, the SC backed Arizona. So your great insight to the SC, is just an opinion. Taking your stance I'll say the SC will find nothing wrong with the law. Guess we will have to wait and see who is correct.

Kick these illegals the heck out of this country! They suck up State funds like a freakin vaccum cleaner!

god...let's not add anymore to it. it seemed the founding fathers wanted it to be a simple, vague document
for a reason. all these partisan political interpretations of just what exactly this and that means is doing nothing
more than dividing us. i mean...i know you personally aren't necessarily saying more "amendments" are needed.
it's just the more we add to it, the more it just becomes a "god-damned piece of paper".
ummmm.... that is... utterly incorrect.

the amendment process is the way we are supposed to change the way in which we are governed - and the Constitution is quite specific. only those who wish it to be vague pretend that it is so.
