New Mexico to end food stamp supplement

Yes, I'm aware of the disaster. You want to answer my question or not?

Wow. This is a shame. Corporations get bailed out, multi-billion dollar wars get waged, the top 1% get tax breaks, and yet we can't even manage to feed our own people. I truly worry for the future of this country.

In all honesty, What this country may need is a harsh 'let the strong survive" period, a sobering get on the self supporting train or get run over by it.

if things are getting as bad as they are telling us they are, there may be no ther way. redistributing our wealth is not working obviously

No, corporate welfare is real ...The government doesn't own everything, if it did, perhaps we wouldn't see the greed displayed by most corporations and the wealthy. And, FYI, they don't (pay their fair share).
You do realize, don't you, that the democratic party just loves useful idiots? I know that is not polite. That was either Lenin's phrase, or Stalin's. I no longer remember which.
Why do you hate the very people who bring such abundance to you? You have hundreds of choices for consumer goods from groceries to appliances. Does the government offer you choices. No. Pay or go to prison.

So, so, so, wrong on so many levels. This would cause nation wide protests here. I hope you do the same. My hat is off to you and I wish all of the people who lived of food stamps good luck! I really do!

No, redistributing the wealth has not worked. The banksters, oil companies, and GE just took it, and didn't create then jobs they said they could create. I guess we can call this trickle up economics.

No, corporate welfare is a doublespeak

No, corporate welfare is picking winners and losers through tax breaks/subsides. You, as a conservative, should be against all of it because its bigGov trying to plan the economy.

Geez, maybe conservatives need to find out what their leaders are doing. How does the GOP manage to keeps its constituents so uninformed?

Corporate welfare is a term describing a government's bestowal of money grants, tax breaks, or other special favorable treatment on corporations or selected corporations.

Two Republicans stood by their vows to end the federal subsidies of Big Oil, but in the end, it wasn't enough. The rest of the Senate GOP voted to allow the largest oil companies to keep their taxpayer handouts even as they post near-record profits.

Senators voted 52-48 on Tuesday to block a bill that would have stripped the oil companies of more than $20 billion in subsidies that many argue amount to corporate welfare, particularly when the companies are posting an estimated $3 billion a week in profit.

The tally fell eight votes short of the 60 required to break a filibuster and move to final approval.
Senate Democrats have said that the subsidies to big oil companies should be cut to tame the federal budget deficit before other government programs that many midddle class Americans rely upon.

“Republicans would rather cut college scholarships, slash cancer research and end Medicare than take away taxpayer-funded giveaways to oil companies that are raking in billions in profits. That tells you everything you need to know about their priorities,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid declared in a statement after the failed vote.
The Washington Current: Sens. Flip Flop, Let Big Oil Keep Subsidies

This is the current DNC Talking point.

20,000,000,000.00 to oil companies is evil corperate welfare we cannot afford.

69,000,000,000,000.00 in unfunded liabilities cannot be touched.

end a food stamp supplement for elderly and disabled residents

If this affects the illegals... good. If it is solely based on the elderly and disabled.... this is disgusting. Now how in the freaking hell are they going to get money to eat? I wonder what is really going on here.

Yes, I'm aware of the disaster. You want to answer my question or not?

As I recall, you didn't ask a question, you made a statement, as most questions end with a "question mark", but even so, I addressed your insinuation, that you didn't comprehend it is not my problem.

I'll give you another hint "non-enforcement of regulations can cause deaths"!

Let the elderly eat the illegals?

If the government's most pressing issue this year is to reduce the deficit and spending, then gifts to major oil companies should be at the top of the list of things to cut, not throwing seniors under the bus.

It's not, what you FAIL to, and I doubt you've even bothered to do more then get your marching orders and start decrying the "evil GOP Big Oil" folks, is that those subsidies can't just "be turned off", it's not like a "gift" you give your neighbor. We're talking about taxes that cover a broad spectrum of issues, grant,s subsidies etc. etc. FURTHERMORE, this is the act of the state of New Mexico, not something Congress did, thus you are off on a tangent about irrelevant issues.

You are right about one thing, we do need to focus on important matters, that 20,000,000,000.00 to a wide range of oil businesses may seem big to you, but it's small potatoes compared to the real problems.

How did any person get money to buy food before government decided they could take money from me in order to give it to you?

You're the one that brought it into the conversation. And, yes, they can be repealed - or they can be discontinued. But, the GOP doesn't want to, shows where their interests are. They are for those that support their campaigns, not the regular folk.

And, Susana Martinez, the Governor of NM who is behind this is a Republican. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, they are alike - throw the people under the bus and let's give corporations and the wealthy more!

You may consider it small potatoes, but it adds to the deficit. So, cutting them out would help, much more than just throwing seniors under the bus and letting the poor people starve.

We as a society should take care of those who can not take care of themselves.

There probably were a lot of people starving to death.

What I see so typical of conservatives, they claim to be Christian and have high family values, but all I see are a bunch of greedy people complaining about the small amount of their pay check that goes to helping those that are less fortunate.

They complain that the people on food stamps buy junk food, but let's face it, most conservatives make fun or criticize when anyone (Michelle Obama) tries to present programs that teach people how to eat healthy. They don't want anyone telling them how to eat, but they end up hurting the people that need it (the poor), so they could make better choices and provide their families with healthier meals.

They claim to be against abortion, but they cut the programs that educate people regarding sex and pregnancy. So, in reality, they just care about their money and how much more of it they can keep, but, they don't mind if a lot of it goes to the wealthy.

There may be some changes that need to be made to the Food Stamp program, but privatizing it (as the GOP would like to do), would just cause more money going to companies instead of needy people. However, most greedy conservatives would be happy to just do away with it because they don't really care if people starve to death or not.

This isn’t about skepticism, however; it’s about ironies and outrages. In 2010, corporate profits grew at their fastest rate since 1950, and we set records in the number of Americans on food stamps. The richest 400 Americans have more wealth than half of all American households combined, the effective tax rate on the nation’s richest people has fallen by about half in the last 20 years, and General Electric paid zero dollars in U.S. taxes on profits of more than $14 billion. Meanwhile, roughly 45 million Americans spend a third of their post-tax income on food -- and still run out monthly -- and one in four kids goes to bed hungry at least some of the time.

For Shame!

"Let the strong survive"? The meek shall inherit the continent in the end. Your trying to put "strong" into the place of wealthy. There's no real connection there. Many of the poor are much more physically and mentally strong than the rich. Check the suicides that happened in 1929.

We as a society should take care of those who can not take care of themselves.
In this society you are free to do so.

But what you really mean is that government should take what I have to give it to your or your friends. And that is morally repugnant, evil, and wrong.

I work, as a slave, for the benefit of others i do not know, for two days out of every five.

We as a society should take care of those who can not take care of themselves.

Why don't you do that then, or haven't you got the time?

It seems to me that people who make these 'we as a society' claims often expect others to do all the work.
