Reporting from Washington—
The Obama administration has identified dozens of unneeded regulations — from handling spilled milk to requiring warm-air hand dryers — that should be eliminated to save hundreds of millions of hours a year in filling out forms and, over time, billions of dollars in costs.

The proposed changes, a few of which already have been enacted or are in their final stages, came in a report Thursday from a government-wide review ordered by President Obama in January to weed out overly burdensome rules and stimulate job growth.

Obama has been under fire from Republicans and business groups for expanding government regulations, particularly after the enactment last year of the sweeping healthcare and financial reform laws.

The proposed rule reductions were applauded by administration critics as a good first step to easing burdens on businesses and local governments. But an environmental group warned that the White House needed to be careful not to eliminate rules that protect the public.

White House officials said they were committed to getting rid of regulations "that are out-of-date, unnecessary, excessively burdensome or in conflict with other rules."

Obama throwing out some regulations HE didn't set? That's hardly a surprise. It's ALL about Obama, and he has lots of new ones to put in their place. Let's not consider that Obama is ever going to do anything that actually lowers costs, OR improves business climate in this country. States like Florida, that are making REAL progress in changing the climate for business are to be commended. Anyone waiting on Obama for jobs is just spinning their wheels. Gov't does not create jobs.

This actually means nothing at all. Obama says what he needs to say, when he needs to say it, and it depends on who he is speaking to at any given time. He changes with the wind. Anything with the word EPA in it is not going to happen, not on Obama's watch. One of his favorite things is to lie, then wait for Repubs to react, then say he tried, but the Repubs...

With the new spin man he just hired we can look forward to more lies, more trashing of Republicans, more Huffpo, Media Matters, etc, as he goes in to full campaign mode. The best I am hoping for is that he will be neutralized somewhat for the next 1 1/2 years while he does his campaign thing. I advise people, when we see articles like this, to pay attention to what happens next. Talk is cheap, especially when one has Soros on their side. Kind of like 2 years in a row now he has made headlines saying he is opening up drilling.... then with very little media attention he does just the opposite.

Hah. I knew the instant conservative response would still be an attack.

So, you don't think the mentioned regulations should be removed?

Obama has been anti-business from the start this is no surprise.

how are his efforts to appropriately deregulate and reduce reporting requirements found to be anti-business?

With the EPA and others rumbling and warning-- I'll believe it when I see it. There have been lies on lies on lies. How anyone can believe anything Obama says amazes me. As I said-- let's watch and see. He SAYS a lot, but does very little, and what he DOES is never good for the country.
Has everyone stockpiled light bulbs yet?? Better hurry!!

What are the environmental groups taking issue with? The hand dryers? I want to shake a treehugger every time I see that some environmental group is sticking their nose in.

I was under the impression that a hand dryer saved energy because blowing some heated air around is easier than chopping down trees, grinding them into paper, turning that paper into a towel-like form, packaging and transporting that towel to a gas station, putting it in the dispenser, using it, throwing it in the trash, and transporting that trash to a landfill...

Maybe I'm just nuts.

And they're not that efficient themselves..at least the standard units you see (when you see them anymore). Ikea has a new direct-air, high-pressures drying system. It kind of works like the air dryer at a car wash. It blows the moisture down and off the hands instead of just puffing warm air at you.

Paper towels are more sanitary. What is the point of washing your hands if you then turn off the faucets and open the door with your clean hands? (Unless you are a germ nut like me that uses my shirt to do that if there are no towels.) Half of the time the air blowers are broken, any way.

Uhh, do you use the paper towel to turn off the faucet and open the door?

Yes, I do, if there ARE paper towels. Then I dispose of the towel and push the door open with my hip. I raised 5 kids, gotta know my germs.

While that's a good start, much more needs to be done, to really be effective.

So let me see if I understand. When a Republican proposes to cut wasteful spending, conservatives are overjoyed.

But when a Democrat actually DOES it, he's anti-business and it's secretly a conspiracy where he's just going to instate other wasteful regulations so he can waste even MORE spending. Because there's totally a reason he'd want to do that.

Ok. :2brickwal

It is worse than that Mistress Nomad. It is a plot to turn America in a communist state!

We must fight this tyranny of deregulation for god and country!

Progressive is progressive. The denotation of party affiliation after the name only serves to project the speed at which the destruction takes place.

What kind-of universe do you live in? Even Stalin industrialized Russia and beat the Germans. Why is it you believe american "progressivism" would fail or destroy the country? If you could do this in non partisan terms.
