What Are You Reading Right Now?

Reading three thing right now:

The Wages of Destruction: The Making and Breaking of the Nazi Economyby Adam Tooze

This is one of the most interesting and original books on the THird Reich and WW2 that I've ever read. Astonishing to realize how little chance Germany ever had to win the war - not much more chance than Japan really.

Battle Line: The United States Navy 1919-1939 by Thomas C and Trent Hone

A very interesting book but not quite what I was expecting. I was looking for more of a technical and institutional history. This book is more general than that. Still worthwhile, however.

The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers by Paul Kennedy

This is an older book that I constantly see referred to when reading things relating to the ideas of ***uyama and Huntington. Thought I'd better get round to reading it. Only just started.

hey I've read some articles from Kennedy and Huntington. Those are great authors

I just noticed what the censor did to ***uyama! How funny

Yes, those guys are very interesting, Huntington especially so. I think what we are seeing now with this round of Islamic terrorism is a demonstration of Huntington's thesis , ie, clash of civilizations.

Shadow Warriors
Dan Rather Reports

May 1, 2002

(CBS) In the Persian Gulf, in late July 1996, American warships, a full complement of military hardware, and nearly 4,000 Marines, sailors and SEALs, were praying they could pull off the mission of their lives. They had been assigned to grab the man, who before September 11th, had killed more Americans than any other terrorist.

His name is Imad Mugniyah, and U.S. intelligence believed they had tracked him to the waters of the Persian Gulf, aboard a merchant ship, the Ibn Tufail.

Now I am reading The Translator by John Crowley.
I got it for Christmas. I am excited. He is one of my favorite authors.
But he only writes a new book every once in a blue moon.

Several clients' journals.

Arsenic?:shock::mrgreen:

Sounds like some underlying anger you have. Though exhibited towards me, I suspect if one were to explore the deeper issues, we would discover that you are really angry at your father. :2razz:

I warned you.

The Arab Mind by Raphael Patai (rev. 2007)

Anyone interested in Arab history, culture, sociology... this is one of the academic benchmark works.

Unfortunately, Professor Patai is deceased.

I got a ton of books for Christmas. 13, in fact.

So right now I'm reading "The Stuff of Thought" by Steven Pinker. It's about.. words, what they really mean, metaphors, how we've evolved in regards to language and all kinds of fun stuff.

Unfortunately, Professor Patai is deceased.

Well I m sorry to hear that .. I hope he get well soon .. Inshallah ..
so he can write another book about Me :)

Supreme Conflict by Jan Crawford Greenburg. Its about the Neoconservative struggle to capture the Supreme Court. So far it leans to the Neoconservative side. I just finished The Nine by Jeffrey Toobin. Its the same subject but with a liberal edge.

Confessions of a Street Addict by Jim Cramer and the selected works of Goethe.
